I'm sorry, but your suggestions are laughable, which wouldn't be so bad in other circumstances, but are beyond obnoxious at the moment.
Running electricity underground through mountain ranges is not tenable.
Please save the extremist and highly ignorant commentary. It is very unwelcome to those of us who are under threat and is not helpful in the slightest.

After PG&E got slapped with a $25 Billion fine in the aftermath of the Camp Fire, they started burying some of their lines up north.

It is very expensive though and those costs get passed along to customers. So that plan has opponents. LA County is over 4,000 square miles as well.
But a lot of these power lines are built on timber poles that were put up decades ago. Given the on again off again drought conditions in SoCal, they need to be hardened one way or another. It's possible to reinforce them to withstand high winds, for example.
From the lawsuit against Edison International:
I know hardening the infrastructure would cost more than $200 million. But spending $200 million to do stock market manipulation when your infrastructure isn't prepared for the realities of the 21st century is pretty shitty, imo.
Still, Edison isn't solely responsible. 2023 was wetter than average. This caused an explosion of vegetation. Then 2024 was much drier than usual. So all of that 2023 vegetation became a ticking time bomb. Along comes a rainless hurricane...and here we are.

Is that right? I AM ignorant. Of that there is no doubt. But when I went to Switzerland, I actually remember marveling that there were so few power cables (or any cables, really) visible anywhere especially compared to The States.
well... Switzerland is certainly wealthy enough to bury all their power cables.
And the road and town density is far more important than in the US so the distribution is less straightforward and they don't need much straight high voltage lines.

That article was from last year actually. Today was the first time it rained in I don't even know how long. I was reading that this has been one of the driest rainy seasons since they started keeping track in the 1800s. The last two rainy seasons were extremely wet here in SD. This year has been bone dry.
