Discontinued Elevape SV

Interesting! So I tried it plugged into my netbook. What d'ya know, it works just fine.

Great. Sounds like the basic unit is OK then? I suspect a battery/charging issue as a solid battery should carry the load.

How does the charging cycle appear? Does it charge normally (say around an hour from flat up to 100% or very near it)?

When you take a draw with it hooked up to your tablet how far down does the battery meter go?

Red, Orange, Orange-Yellow.
Then back up to around 90-95%.
Fully charge 15 minutes later, according to the green light status on the SV.

Yes, as long as I'm not using the charger it came with. Computer USB charging seems fastest.

Does it go below 50% on the battery meter when you take a draw?

Ha, ha, yes. It would have been simpler, clearer if I had just said less than 25% rather than the colors!
See, my SV really is the shit when plugged in!

Trust me, I've figured it out and mine isn't working. I'll keep it in mind to separate the issues from the advertising.

Cool, yeah I thought I remembered you saying that you got results.

I think the main point is it seems yours may be defective in some way, never fun to deal with for any vape for sure. And trust me we've all been there my friend, just the nature of the portable industry in its current state frankly.

Well at least I've experienced defective units and gotten replacements for almost all of my various vapes actually, but ironically never my Elevape somehow...

Good luck getting it sorted out, its a shame but sometimes it takes a bit and can be extremely frustrating. At least you can enjoy some form of use with it in the meantime, its intended use can always help ease the pain!

Fortunately with vas I've got so many now that its not so upsetting any more if/when it happens lol But if it happens with the Grasshopper (or new indicas) that certaibly would disappoint me quite a bit...

No worries. Sounds like one of the battery packs may be bad in your unit. It should work just as well unplugged.
Joe will take good care of you my friend!

That makes perfect sense. So does mine. The charger that came with it is good for .5 Amps, the ESV will use 1.0 (1.09 for mine....) if you let it.

Yep, Doc, I concur with the diagnosis. A battery replacement seems in order. Joe will no doubt put it right (checking for normal charging) in short order.

TW, I hope this puts your issues to rest so you can get on with the enjoying part. As you know, when it's working sweet it's very nice.

here an update from a mail with Sandor:"We are facing with instability problem of the unit as it is very complicated inside. This came from a mistake from one of our supplier and we are pushing hard to eliminate all of them. Hope we can fix everything before loosing all of the customers. This is very sad, as if the module works it works fine and it is the world's best vaporizer. However when it downs it is only an aluminum crap and something that makes you nervous. So, I hope that we are going to find all the problems very soon and serve our customers with the highest support and care. "

I really hope they find it soon. Probably it was better to be open and to publish this problem on fc.
I hope that the problems will be solved soon.

you have to be patient with the esv... and you have to dial in the right temps for you and your drawing technique but after you managed this tasks and play around with the esv for a bit... it is a realy great vape... but you also have to grind your herb and you have to fill the bowl of the esv (more or less (0.07 to 0.1g) loaded fluffy not compressed...-> big clouds

hmm about efficeny i am not completly sure... in my opinion my e-nano is more efficient (for me efficient is how much clouds i am getting out of say 0.1g or 0.03g for example)

hope this will not change...

but i am not suffering from problems with battery as some mentioned here so i can t say anything about that..

and by the way after i got my esv i was totaly not satisfied and wanted to sell it on the classfields but at the end i am happy that i did not...

Just received my elevape and I charged for the recommended 5 hours and all I get is 3 flashing red lights. Does that mean I have a broken coil, I knew this deal was too good to be true.

Howdy. Sorry you're having troubles. It's easy to check the coil. Take off the bowl cover and undo the two screws and lift straight up. The coil is easy to see and understand.

I'm not sure I follow about the '3 flashing lights' part, are you talking about the round one in the center of the top (or bottom depending.....)? The one that should come on when you hit it? It flashes?

What does the app show for battery charge state?

TIA

Charge state says 100% and its the light on the top. I tried inhaling while plugged in and I got an 8 second red light but 3 flashing red lights afterwards so I think it's the coil

@Reliable ShotZ That's how the unit works. When you inhale the red light is solid for 8 seconds as the coil is glowing, then continue to inhale through the 3 flashes.

To see if your coil is lighting up, take the chamber lid off, hold the chamber in front of a mirror and blow into the USB port. The coil will glow.

If on your initial inhale unplugged the light isn't solid and just goes to 3 red flashes that is usually the coil not making a good connection. Mostly that is the case when you over tighten the coil and break one of the legs off in the post.

No problem @Reliable ShotZ.

Check to see if you may have over tightened the coil post screw. Sounds like one of the legs of the coil broke off.

You can check by taking the cooling chamber off, remove the screws that hold the coil in place, then tap the coil posts on a pencil laying on a table. You may see a small piece of wire fall out. That sounds like the issue you may be having.

Then just replace the coil and do not over tighten the coil screws. After 2 or 3 bowls take the cooling chamber back off and give the coil screws a quick check. They might turn just a teeny tiny bit, just be careful not to over tighten them.

Then with the cooling chamber off and the coil exposed blow through the USB port and you should see the coil glow then your back in business. You should be good for many many many months my friend!

Hope this helps!

I think you were right one of the legs of the coil was shorter. But I don't have a replacement coil and not sure where to buy one. I tried manipulating the coil to see if I could get a better connection but it didn't work. I think I'd rather send it in to warranty in case there is something else wrong with it. Could someone post a link for the european warranty service please.

@Reliable ShotZ , why don't you try unwinding the outer coil wind, bending and cutting it equal length as the other post. It will act a little different with the temps (you may need to re adjust them) with 1 less wind but at least your unit will work. Just a thought.

This may get you by until you do get new coils.

I did this once in the woods with my friends SV. He had no extra coil, so we Macgyvered it!

Hope this helps!

There is a firmware update available.

http://elevapesmart.eu/download

OK, I finally got this done. I had some problems, some real and some no doubt self inflicted. Norton antivirus kept removing the new firmware, as near as I can tell because it's new and doesn't have a good reputation':

WS.Reputation.1 is a detection for files that have a low reputation score based on analyzing data from Symantec’s community of users and therefore are likely to be security risks. Detections of this type are based on Symantec’s reputation-based security technology. Because this detection is based on a reputation score, it does not represent a specific class of threat like adware or spyware, but instead applies to all threat categories.

The reputation-based system uses "the wisdom of crowds" (Symantec’s tens of millions of end users) connected to cloud-based intelligence to compute a reputation score for an application, and in the process identify malicious software in an entirely new way beyond traditional signatures and behavior-based detection techniques.

Pretty strange idea, if you ask me, makes a guy wonder how new software is supposed to get a good name if the 'wisdom of crowds' won't let anyone even try it? I had to turn off Norton to get it to download. After saving it on the desktop and restarting Norton it didn't mind it there, let me run it, but wouldn't download it again????? Catch 22 in binary?

I also got to a spot where the normal App wouldn't recognize the upgraded ESV (no battery level, setting sliders at default and wouldn't change. The light on the ESV flashed fast instead, not very useful. However restarting the computer again seems to have sorted that out.

Now that I've finally got the new program downloaded and installed, anybody have any idea what it does? I've no idea what "Improved battery lifetime" means, more conservative upper and lower limits (more cycles before replacement) or less conservative limits (longer run time per charge)? The second claim, heater disabled when plugged in, seems to happen (the light still comes on when you hit it, but no vapor. I'm not sure what advantage this is right off but I've got it now.

Even though I managed to kill it for a while, it seems more or less like before. Anyone know what the improvement in battery lifetime is? I'm guessing it's a change in cutoffs so that now you get less hits per charge. That is 100% charged is now lower or 0% is now higher. Or both?

OF

Edit:
Hmm, I wonder what they mean by "USB connected". My elevape pretty much only works when it is plugged in, can someone with this firmware check if it heats up when charging and not connected to a PC?

No. After upgrade the light comes on but no heat when plus 5 Volts is there to charge (like from the supplied charger), a computer and app is not needed.

Gentle Friends,

I just had a very interesting phone conversation for Joe himself, Geek to Geek. As others have mentioned, he's sharp. Knows his product very well, lots of attention to details (like fit and finish of metal parts) in addition to a deceptively complex product. This is not your typical reworked e-cig tech from a big factory half a world away. He, and his team, are in it up to their armpits. They do a lot of other non vape high tech work as well. And they're still fine tuning it, the reason for the software update in fact.

He asked me to call to discuss the problems I had upgrading the software. It might be host related (I'm running Windows XP) or some goof up on my part. It took 3 tries (complete with removing the App) to finally get it to work, but work it does.

He explained the two goals in the update, trust me you want this. First, he was able to safely both raise the upper cutoff and lower the bottom, so now the same old '0 to 100%' scale covers 25 or 30% wider range. Yes, you'll get 25 or 30% more 'hits per charge' than before since it now uses a larger percentage of the available range. If this was a car it's like using 15 gallons of the 16 gallon tank rather than 10 or 11 (because you're filling the tank 'to the top' and draining it down further before 'tanking up' again). Getting 400 miles between fill ups not 300?

The other change is also a good plan IMO. It seems that guys were running their battery until it locked out (fully discharge) where the protection circuit kicks in. Then they'd plug it in and keep going, without putting enough charge back in to keep from hitting the protection again and again and again. Hammering the poor battery into an early grave. Human nature and all, but a battery killer. A mode battery makers cringe at and recommend avoiding. Every 'deep discharge cycle' damages this kind of battery, 'use while charging' without a reasonable base charge costs battery life even though each event only gives a few minutes use. Now that is changed. You can't use the battery while charging. Instead charge it partially if you must and use it for a few hits, then put it back on charge and charge it up. These two together should give us more use (hits) per charge and longer battery life before replacement.

And there's more good improvements being worked out (and like the last two, tested in Europe).

As an interesting side note, the new version shows up as "135", not 2.0 or some similar. This isn't like a checks where you start with 101, they started with 1. We're the beneficiaries of over 100 steps in software development here boys and girls. With more coming. I don't know for sure, of course, but I think this is the most sophisticated vape going today. A scary amount of 'source code'. I sure don't know of one more so. Sort of the exact opposite of Thermovape at an electrical/electronic level but with the same solid attention to materials and construction. 'The Man' knows his stuff.

So my advice is do the upgrade......unless you want less sessions per charge and shorter battery lifespan than the rest of us of course.

Re Firmware Update: If your Elevape Smart has a serial number below 100, you should contact ipuff if you want to install the updated firmware. Apparently they changed the bootloader after 100 so the earlier versions need to have the bootloader updated before the new firmware can be installed.

Thanks, but it seems the firmware update only runs on PC... @Ipuffusa is there a way for Mac users to get this update?

edit: I'm also below SN 100, so I'll contact them. thanks!
