Discontinued Elevape SV

Received the ESV late yesterday and had it on the charger till this morning.

As advertised, instant hits on demand with near zero wait time! As mentioned, lots of stirring needed, the mouth piece is a little wobbly, and the air path will require semi frequent cleaning.

All things considered, I'm liking this little unit as it gives immediate results:)

Congrats @Enchantre ! I'm sure you will enjoy once that light goes green.

Meanwhile i am now finally connected to the app! pushed my motorola usb all the way and it connected and installed drivers. Looks like my settings out of the box were 7, 10, 16, but i cant recall what the temps are then? I read on the site 250-450F but it doesnt actually start that low does it? i thought i remembered reading something about 350-450, or 300-450 in increments of five degrees? Need to figure out where that chart is someone posted a while back...

Need some usage tips.

I have been having a hard time figuring out the draw technique. If I go real slow, I seem to borderline combust, no matter what temperature I set it at. If I go real hard, there is no vapor, also no matter what temperature I set it at.

If I draw at a medium pull, it kind of depends, sometimes its decent, sometimes, nothing. Does it seem like my unit is not working properly? I get nowhere near the results I have from my firefly or solo.

Can you taste when you are getting a good hit or not, and adjust your draw accordingly?

Try a short hit, about 3 sec. then stop. Immediately take a longer deeper hit till the light blinks, or stop just before the light blinks then resume. The light should reset and light up as you continue. Do this a few times and you will get the timing down.

Well, that's the problem. The same draw does not always produce the same results.

The exception is slow sipping draws (that I use on the Firefly to brilliant results) almost always produce massive clouds that tastes like light combustion.

I just did an experiment, turned it up to 30, then draw hard as I can. First go was decent, 2nd and 3rd go was nothing (though the device feels warm thus I knew it was heating). Then stirred, still nothing.

That when compared to my earlier experience when I turned it down to like 4 or 5, did sipping draws and still produced that sharp, combustion-like taste, makes me suspect that maybe there's something wrong.

Do you guys vary your draw speed mid-pull?

I have the best results with my firefly when I adjust my draw according to how strong a hit I can taste. I realize that might not apply here (I'm also working a button with the ff), but I thought it was worth a shot.

Whoa!

This is amazing. @sasNW 's unit was great, but I really didn't feel too comfy "messing" with his, so now that I have MINE in my hand, it is a pretty amazing thing!

I have been packing my bowl a bit less than sasNW does... he's messy and wasteful!... about to the top of the inner rim (below the air holes), and just leveled, not tamped down. It is convection, and needs a bit of airflow. I'm on my third bowl, btw. I've been playing with the temps - I tried 30!! it was pretty amazing, I got 3 good, heavy hits, with really well-toasted ABV, and not a trace of combusting! I've set the temps down to a reasonable level (3, 11, 25), and I am amazed that I'm getting vapor on 3!! light, tasty, OMFG TASTY!!! vapor. (no. not as tasty as the Nano at 5.5, @ataxian , but really good vapor for a portable!)

My hubby kept asking me if I read the instructions that came with it... um, no, not yet. Hell, I figure if I can't figure out pretty quickly how something works, it's just too complicated. But, only because that is one of my Superpowers. I'm a huge fan of intuitive design. I find the Elevape to be VERY intuitive, ONCE you understand what the mechanics are. Plus, I learned how to taste/feel my hits when I got my Hammer. You gotta be careful with that one, lest it combust on you (and, it did, once.).

I love the cleaning brush, hooray for the little bag of spare parts & allen wrench. The carry case is cute, yet completely useless for my needs. Not sure why anyone would expect shrink-wrap when it comes in a KICK-ASS box with magnetic lid... but it is impressive packaging. I do think it could be minimalized a bit more, as there's significant unused real estate.

I handed it to hubby. He drew. It worked. I really like this thing. a lot.

The NANO is cool with.
It's simple.
Got to LOVE it!

Ive been experimenting with varying methods, and found that if you draw too fast, like suckig air too much, then you don't get clouds of vapor (though haven't tester that theory on high temps...). I've also only went slow enough to combust only once by accident trying this: I think you want to pull hard to trigger and maintain the right temp, but you want to breathe in slowly if that makes sense. Thats how i use my T1 through a bubbler, and its something I'm still trying to nail down with my Underdog too. So I just took a few hits deliberately that way on my Elevape and they were massive clouds (first one on a fresh bowl, on level 21/405F and next one on 16/380). My third hit is when I combusted for the first time as mentioned above, on 16, trying to hit it that way again and being too stoned to do it right? I still have to perfect it.

One thing I did as well was take out the mouthpiece screen, I don't mine a couple specs in my mouth here and there, the grind is so fine on the ones that can get through so I usually don't even feel them and I don't mind eating a tiny bit... I still want to find a way to get rid of the lid screen as well, that's the other thing that makes it hard to perfect the draw. Its the same issue I'm having with the Underdog, but I never had it with my T1. Aside from the screens though, this really does feel like a solid T1 replacement (mine is relegated to plugin/bubbler use, and does it quite well still though!), at least until the Grasshopper shows itself...

Was not! I was reassuring you that the Nano IS better for flavor.

This, however, is way more stealthy....
I'm just messing!
If your a stoner buy a pack of papers and forget about vaporizer methods.
For me the NANO delivers more FLAVOR than any portable vaporizer for the money.

You didn't mention stirring as others have, do you think that the looser pack helps avoid it?

@grokit Ya if I really want to make sure that my herbs are spent, I have to stir. Initially I really tried every which way to minimize the whole stirring thing. Mainly by trying to take massively long draws, hoping to get some conduction action in, and by scaling up the temp setting. Everytime the vapor production stops using the other methods, one quick stir will have me producing visible vapor again. I'm also starting to feel like I have a better gauge of how much wholesomey goodness is left in the herbs.

I think if I had all the mj I could handle, I probably wouldn't go above temp setting #10. Was never into the whole "taste" thing, but I'm really starting to enjoy the taste off a fresh bowl at the lower settings!

@Shit Snacks I'm reallly interested to see how you find the indica and the elevape compare after some use.

Btw...I have noticed that when I try to get too stingy with how much I put in the bowl, I can't vape the herbs efficiently no matter how long I vape on it and/or stir.

Yeah stirring is necessary, that's one of the ways its a lot like the T1 and its convection, though with that you can stir easily by pouring into the cap and back. I know theres a way to figure out a quick and simple way to stir with the Elevape, now that more of us are joining in I'm sure at least one person will come up with something... (I've been using a toothpick or my finger to stir btw)

Got the draw down, having a nice pre bedtime session at the 21/405F that is my 3 (I've got 11/355 for 1 and 16/380F for 2), got three hits in a row before feeling like I had to stir like others have said, and i saw some very darkened pieces like happens with the T1 if you dont stir often enough. The lower temps are neat how they can get some clouds, I'll have to try them again now that I'm getting my draw down. That's one thing I love about the Indica, the low temps are incredible. Huge heady clouds on nice packed bowls and the taste is unbelievable... I'm presuming my Elevape's taste will improve over time with use (its on demand nature makes me think it takes longer than a session vape you can burn in), and hopefully once I get the aluminum mouthpiece that will help too... Not that the Elevape tastes bad, I'm just not tasting the herb like I could in the Indica. I'll have to do more comparisons at later time, once I spend more time elevapin

@Shit Snacks: Here's a link to the ESV temperature chart I posted a few pages back. It was based on a conversation another member had with the manufacturer, so a bit speculative. The draw speed probably affects the temperature too much to make it more than a general guideline anyway.

I used it about four times during the night, and never stirred it until this morning.
Yeah, stir it, every few hits. It's convection, after all. I have to shake my ELBs when I'm using the EVO; I stir my herb when I use the Nano; I stir my herb when I use the Hammer.

Remember, little darling, Stir it up!

I found out today while golfing this morning that a golf tee works very well to stir the herb. Three times around the bowl with the bottom of the tee and then I would flip over and use the top to tamp down. Takes about 20 sec to reset for another few hits.

Make sure the tee isnt finished or painted to avoid anything weird chipping off and getting vaped.

Well after this I combusted accidentally twice more and opened it up and stuff but things smelled like bad. Does it ruin it when it combusts? Bc I've had very inconsistent results since then... Even now that I'm home and have cleaned everything with ISO and a qtip (new lid screen too), still only got one small hit at 11, then pretty much nothing after that with like 6 tries or so and another person trying a few too... When kbwas cleaning I blew into the USB and saw the coil light up, didn't know how to do that before. Also even with the cleaning it still smells a tiny bit.

I tried to be careful cleaning around the coil, but I'm sure the brush touched it a little. That shouldn't ruin it thought right? Since then how would you clean then sensor?

But yeah so now I'm having the draw fast no vapor issue? I think? I can't tell if its my technique, but doesn't seem like @sasNW ever had a problem not getting vapor from drawing fast right? Can't go too fast?

I'll keep working at it, but unsure what else to try..

EDIT: yeah even going slow, now I can't get a thing... I guess that means the coil must not be heating up? Don't know how I can really check, since I'm used to vapes with power buttons lol. Like a session conduction vape is especially easy to check for issues, there must be some way to check here too. I don't know if I want to blow through the USB with it opened again though, on case that's what damaged it. I figure it has to be that, the combustion (like it was smoke in the device, surely more damaging than vapor right?), or that my cleaning did something? I did brush off the senor as well...

... Hang on, just realized battery is worth looking into! Though it was at 50% before... And yeah it was down to 38% after these tries, so that shouldnt be the problem...

EDIT again: just took a couple hits while it was plugged in, clouds! Maybe I'm getting too much airflow through the USB when j draw fast? So covering is helping? I should try covering with my finger too, this is interesting...

Ok last thought for tonight, when I plugged it in, it said 38%. By the time I had that hit was close to 50% again, maybe my app is showing the wrong battery levels like others had? But I downloaded from the most recent link on here so it should be correct, correct? Also I think it was at 50% when I cleaned it, and thats when I got a small hit at 11 and then nothing at all for a while until I did the plugin etc

@Shit Snacks now that I have my draw technique down I rarely don't get vapor with a heavy draw.

@Enchantre happy you are enjoying it! Just so you know that's the same level I fill my bowl to. the screen pushes it down no matter what to that level. Not sure how I am messy or wasteful though haha

Shitsnacks, I think you hit on it, battery is probably spent at 38 percent. My range with an old app(still haven't updated from first one) is 50 to 62.
If you blow through the USB port you should see the coil glow if it still has battery life.

I think you can bump the coil with the brush just as long as it doesn't get bent.

Hey Peeps

just thought I'd mention I spoke to the good folks at vapor nation today who were in attendance at Hempfest Seattle. They have a few elevapes (5 I think) in stock.
from what I know they offer is it,20% off for. FC members?

Just passing on news,i know these things are rare as rocking horse poo right now.watching this thread with interest.love size battery life and ease of maintenance and loving the stovetop coil.

BTW Hempfest was a huge success great vibes and got to chill with some great folks:tup:

With every big cleaning (every few days) I always very very gently brush the heating coil too, it still works like a charm.

My wife and I get vapor with every single draw, if we don't get vapor, it's one of 3 things :
battery too low, herbs are spent, it needs stirring.
Besides that, it's vapor with every exhale. (temps are at 7-11-14)
I didn't have to play with inhaling speed, fine/coarse grind, packing or not...to get it
working from the first use. It's nothing compared to the mflb or the cera LL wich needed
as much thinking as doing in the beginning to get it to work, for me, the elevape has
no learning curve whatsoever.
Am I just very lucky with a perfect working device or are there others here who
have no problems at all with the elevape?

This device for me is the first vaporizer that keeps on getting more and more awesome.
I expected the euphoria of the new little toy to wear off after a couple of weeks but
it's only getting worse. It keeps on amazing me with it's level of stealthiness for instance.

There would be some improvements wich could make it even better, like some kind of
internal stirring mechanism or an extra compartiment wich holds a stirrer, a way so the screen in the lid doesn't get dirty that easily, something so you can see your battery level on the device,
maybe a bit more rounded edges so it feels more confortable in your pocket...
but all of this doesn't hold me from calling it my most favorite and most used vaporizer.

I think that this thing has to be in the collection of those fc members who sometimes need
instant pain relief, you can't get it faster than with the elevape.

With the last download of the app, it also downloaded a little program called
iPuff advanced configuration wich lets you choose between Ipuff devices in flash mode
or ipuff devices in vape mode.
When flash mode selected, the charging light on the smartvape started blinking and I couldn't connect to the app, I guess it's something for later on so we can tweek other things too? maybe do a software reset of the elevape?

I just re read this post and man do I look like a fanboy, still gonna post it like this, unchanged.
