Hello and good morning everyone, its gonna be a great day, I got that feeling! I took my two oldest boys fishing yesterday, we went to a state park lake I used to fish back when I was a kid many years ago. Its a small lake nothing special, used to ski in it back when my parents had a boat and all, spent many good times there. Anyhow we had a good time, spent a couple hours or so wetting a hook without much success. I skunked my boys, 2 to zip to zip, caught a small bass and brim. Oh and I got some sun alright, got quite a sun burn all across my back, sides, arms and legs. I guess I have been in the shop for too long not spending enough time in the sun. I am dark complected and tan fairly quickly but havent had the time to do so or had a need to be in the sun. Maybe we shoulda done more fishing earlier throughout the year. Been really nice having the wife rub me down with lotion.
Been giving it hell in the shop the last few days doing custom pieces and solo stems. Got a hella big order from my guy in France I gotta get started on ASAP and the day after I got another considerable order from one of my guys in Australia. Gonna be slammed the next few weeks for sure. Wood Solo stems are very popular worldwide! Gonna be doing quite a # of EQ accessories also to go to the EU, seems they are sick and tired of breaking glass and are looking for an alternative. I just got in several board feet of Mexican Catalox and Mexiccan T'zalam both have alot of figure with fiddleback marking. Gonna be fun to work and turn!
@Caligula Wow what a nice matching set you have there! I appreciate you posting the pics and really thank you for your effort in all you are doing testing it for dabbing. You are doing a great job and thank you also for the updates and ideas you are sharing with me. It looks like you are enjoying it and what you have mentioned is that you are using it more so than your normal piece right? I am glad to hear it! Keep it up bro and pls continue to share your feelings with me, you are the MAN! Thats wild looking tie dyed wong above is actually Nicaraguan Cocobolo, its one of my most favorite woods to work and varies in colors so much. Its a trip, its like a diamond in the rough. The blanks I am working tend to be really dark on the outer sides but when you start peeling them off on the lathe you start to see whats inside and the more you take off the true beauty starts to come out. That piece above looked nothing like that in color just looking at the blank, its a trip and always fun to see whats hiding inside.
@Reflections I hadnt thought of doing Nano stands but surely I could, just would have to get a slightly larger bit but thats no big deal. I did just get in a bunch of lumber to match the 3 most common units Andy offers and oh I also have a few slabs of Koa, how bout that? They arent curly like your Nano or stem but are Koa none the less. Hmmmm maybe I could do ya something if youd like! Give it some thought, Id be more than happy to do ya something nice!
I hope I dont shake this feeling and hope the day ends as well as it started. Gonna take it easy the rest of the day and take some pics of the new Cocobolo wong, butter some freshly turned pieces, and keep an eye out for 5 O'clock, got a few coldies that need the tops popped!
Have a great day you all and a safe weekend! Holla if I can do anything for ya!
