If you draw fast enough but i would suggest to open the airflow fully for the best experience between 60-65w.

And I hope you use the twisted coils the standard kanthal are ppl not suited for 60w up
Ok thanks

standard kathanl won't work at all for 60w ? or are they not suitable for more than 60w+?

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I got a walnut RCV18 a few months ago, and out of the vapes I have it probably had the toughest learning curve (found it more difficult than e.g., a hydrobrick w/o disks). Flavour was great, but I found it hard to stabilise that satisfying, flavourful hit sweet spot between nothing's happening and combustion, or at least singeing and hotspots. After a while I got dialled in well though, still had issues with hotspots. Inspecting the ABV fully it wasn't much (just a small ring (<1mm) of green weed around a crispy central hotspot), but still left me feeling like I hadn't gotten it down properly. Also, since you're meant to load the MP, no chance to stir after a few hits, because it'd just all drop out (unless I vape doing a handstand). Actually emailed Dreamwood, they were nice and helpful in their response, but essentially suggested readjusting the coils which seemed like too much hassle, so I tried another thing first - just dump my weed in the bowl (not the mouthpiece), flatten the bowl gauze out a little, go down with the watts, see what happens. Turns out, it works like a charm. I can mix it up every few hits, even by just shaking, my ABV is super even, it's easier to fill, no singeing or anything. I'm not a huge fan of killing a bowl in one go, which may even be possible, but I tend to get like 5-7ish nice draws.

As for the actual piece, I have a whole bunch of vapes, particularly addicted to the wooden ones, and it is absolutely a piece of art. Also a lot of cool stuff that you get with it, super cool vape for people who don't mind trying to figure a vape out, definite recommendation.

Thanks for the write up @sunyata

Deffo still keen on this, I enjoy a learning curve and feel I need a battery powered, on demand convection device in my vape ecosystem. I'm on the wait list for a Nomad 2 but that's likely to be over a year away I should think.

I don't have a hotspot but have you tried to just turn the mouthpiece 25degrees in between the hits that should also help.

Yeh tried that as well, but ultimately the bowl method works most to my liking :)

It's actually quite nice to have some of the convenience of the battery power, and when used with the pods it was pretty easy in terms of the learning curve at least in my experience, so can be used easily on the side, but also has loads of play for you to figure out your particular method of getting the hits you like out of it which for me is a lot of the fun of it. And I've had some fantastic hits with this beauty. Definitely seems like a good way to tie you over to a nomad 2 ha

What ever suits the best, in that case the glowRCV14 would be a nice addition 😅

I refer to my experience with dream wood as a company.
Sold me a non functional beta unit, ignored my emails regards missing part of my order until called out here on a open forum.
I also have some issues with the 14 units but those are covered I this thread, not many seem impressed with the 14.
18 is solid and I wish the company provided better CS.
CS was GREAT during the sale however.
👌

I've been searching for the cleanest/safest portable, battery powered vape, and it hasn't been easy. I want no chance of any material leeching into my vapor, so ideally it would be an all-glass vapor path and isolated airpath, with no aluminum or silicone, and the safest possible heater (so probably not steel, as it can leech when it gets too hot). Apparently such a vape doesn't really exist, though.

At home I use the elev8r into a small bong (and I even removed the steel screen from the quartz heater, so it's 100% glass...that's how neurotic I am about purity), but obviously bringing a bong and torch outside is not feasible.

After I all but gave up on my search, my brother suggested the Dreamwood Glow, which looks pretty amazing overall. I'm fine with wood as a material. I've read the entire thread, but it seems that there are conflicting reports about the necessity of silicone o-rings in the RCV 18 version. It seems that originally the 14 used silicone o-rings while the 18 did not, but then maybe DW added them to the 18 as well? There's one guy who mentioned noticing a taste difference after removing silicone from another part of the vape as well IIRC.

So my question is: is it possible to use the 18 without any silicone in it? I'd like to use the glass cooling stem (or something similar) with it as well.

Also, I don't know much about kanthal coils. Are they definitely safer than steel ones? Lastly, are there any other materials in it an obsessively neurotic vaper might be concerned about?

Thanks!

why not steel?
it has around 1300C boiling point, it's clean enough for vaping (235C max)
i found a way to reduce my coughness if you find the convection steam too harsh
drink tea with honey. it works. it will take out everything, drink 2 cups every day for 2-3 days and you'll be like new :)
convection steam... it reclaims the throat! lol

Does anyone know of any reason the Vapefly Kriemhild mod would NOT work with the RCV18?

The Wismex Reuleaux has been recommended before but I'm an innately visual creature it seems and I love the aesthetic of the Kriemhild.

I don't have a Glow yet, but from reading this thread, the consensus is that any 510 box mod with at least 80W of power should work fine. The Vapefly Kriemhild is 200W, so that's plenty.

I've read that when steel coils glow, which does happen with the DW Glow, there could be small particles flaking off. As far as I know, it doesn't need to actually boil in order to leech. (I know, for example, that it's bad to cook tomato sauce in steel pots, because the acidity causes the steel to leech out.) Either way I'd rather err on the side of caution.

Absolutely. The glass mouthpiece doesn't need an O-ring. The wooden mouthpieces need a O-ring for a good fit.
Thanks! Does this apply to both the standard glass MP and the glass cooling stems?

After I ordered a Smoant Charon Mini and some batteries, I realized the Glow 18 is sold out at VGOODIEZ and mostly sold out at Dreamwood. Does anybody know when they'll be restocking?

What is the difference between the various types of wood? Is it mostly aesthetic? Which one tastes the most neutral? Which one is the most durable?

I'm thinking I might get the cheapest basic Walnut one with only the glass MP, since the wood ones require o-rings, for $110 when it comes back in stock, unless there's a functional improvement in the more expensive woods or it'll take months to restock.

dunno, doesn't seem reliable to me. the material is safe up tp 1000C or so.
if there's a research I'd like to see it
