Dr Dabber Switch (Induction Vaporizer)

Does the induction heater heat the Ti cups that are lined with ceramic, or do the coils themselves get hot?
Does the quartz bucket also have a Ti lining or is it quartz only?
What is the size of the OD of the bucket and it's height?

Wondering if, provided it would fit, one could drop in a SiC insert; say a 20mm Liger V3 insert?

The only things that gets hot are the metal nails and whatever they touch. I believe the production quartz nail simply sits inside the Ti cup, and yes, they could make anything to fit in there. We’re gonna have all kinds of sick materials to use, whether they come from Dabber or elsewhere. I’m on the road and can’t provide specs, but the nails are dinky...about the size of my pinkie.

It's amazing how the induction technology was underestimated, despite the Lux fiasco DrDabber seems able to build Something pretty interesting!

If I well understood you the quartz/white ceramic/black ceramic cups sits in a metal cup which is heated by induction. Seems very different than the Lux where the heated metal part is placed in the bowl.

Very interesting this sort of design works well for flowers cause I can't see how it's possible to produce thick vapour without airflow through the load... at least in my experience! I beta tested a chinese vape called the Herbstick which was using a basic bottom sealed stainless steel cup heated and you was only catching the fumes over the bowl.... gave me a fully extracted abv but taste and especially clouds production, sucks.
I might be interested to make some new test with my Lux but I'm afraid it doesn't got enough power to do that... why Lotolabs didn't worked with DrDabber!!! Switch seems a lot more well engineered and tested despite the design I don't like (but it's only Something personnal and out of contexte).

Ok, next step might be a induction powered convection vaporizer.... guys never stop to improve vaporization , that's good but it's amazing too to see how some older tek are still powerfull (I have my Evo TV in mind)!

The ceramic nails are Ti with a ceramic coating. The quartz nail, and I assume anything similar that gets released, sits in a Ti cup. The vaping works well for flowers for pyrolysis. The lower profiles that don’t char (pyrolysis) are like you describe, airy and light, and aren’t anything I like to use.

I want to make this very clear, if you like your Mighty or Flowermate or anything on this site that vapes dry herbs and want similar vapor and abv, this isn’t the unit. When I first got it I had to go back to Dabber and ask them why we’re burning all the weed because of the taste. It took a few conversations with their engineer and a lot of sessions where I played with the leftovers to get my old mind wrapped around it not burning. I had to go look up pyrolysis and ask my industry friends if it was bullshit. And I had other seasoned vaporists check it out with me. There’s not a profile on the machine that vapes dry herbs like I’m used to and I don’t use it for that except to dick around with the pyrolysis. It tastes like smoke to me, but the proof is in the leftovers. Approach this one with an open mind.

There’s no reason it can’t vape any way we want. We just need more time in development with some new accessories. I think a lot of innovation for it will come from this forum. I get excited thinking what @Pipes could come up with for it!

Hey guys, thought this was pretty insightful post from one of the guys from our consulting/engineering team on another forum:

It is important to understand the advantages that induction heating brings to the table as compared to other types of heaters. Induction heating was used in this design not because it was "gee whiz induction" but because it has one of the biggest overwhelming advantages there is ---- it eliminates electrical connections to the heating element. Eliminating the inevitable electrical penetrations, connections, connectors and what have you into the coil area is HUGE. Many other advantages come with induction heating which are utilized in this design as well.

Induction is different from the typical approach to generating heat and Dabbers design team worked hard to use these "collateral advantages" made possible by induction heating. They have brought to the market a product that addresses many of the common complaints and problem areas that people have to deal with daily.

Like everything else on this planet Induction heating has advantages and disadvantages. If you want to talk about disadvantages we can do that. However let me sum it up by saying that Dabber has conquered the down side of this technology and has it working very nicely. There have been several attempts to bring this "Induction Heating & Vaping" to fruition by some very smart people but none have succeeded like Dabber and the Switch. IMO.

I will list a few advantages of Induction Heating as used in this product;

1. Elimination of electrical connections to the heating element.
2. Elimination of parasitic heat flow through electrical connections to the surrounding structure.
3. Induction heating allows the heating element to be placed in a sealed container.
4. Thermal mass of the heating element can be precisely controlled.
5. Induction allows a very wide dynamic range of power without risk of melting the heating element.
6. Very fast heating rates are possible since only the heating element is involved in the process.
7. Low thermal mass means rapid temperature changes are possible.
8. Temperature control can be very precise.
9. Electrical efficiency is similar to resistive type heading elements at the energy conversion level.
10. Overall electrical efficiency is very high as compared to resistive type heating systems because the heating energy is mostly going into the payload and not so much into other components as wasted heat.
11. There is less heat soak and heat loss resulting in longer battery life.
12. Heating element are easily replaced or changed as needed by different applications
13. Heating elements can be optimized for a specific application.
14. Heating elements can be quickly removed to prevent unwanted heat soak into surrounding components.
15. The state of the heating element can be interrogated through the electronics and its condition evaluated for safety permissives.

If anyone has any questions I'd be happy to answer.

We need a proper video of this in action, ones posted up already are all fine and daddy but not a true start to finish work thru.

Congrats on developing such an innovative device @Dr.Dabber. Now that you have what seems to be an operating unit and given the jump early adopters would need to take on such new technology and methodology, wondering if you have considered releasing one to a respected reviewer - @ohmygodimsohigh (420vapezone) comes to mind...
Thank you! We would love to give a unit to review but I think a fair way to do this is to let the forum decide who. Over the next 24 hours (10:30pm pst) we will let the each member nominate a reviewer they have in mind. The first nominee to reach 15 likes will get the Switch! If noone reached 15 the highest number of likes will win.

Good idea! Even if I can't expect to be nominate...

my vote will go for @paytonpenn since I can't vote for myself, isn't it?

There great videos @Dr.Dabber this unit looks better and better every time I see it now, can see you do international orders for it but are there going to be any u.k/eu distributors coming soon on the switch?

I know vapefiend sells some dr. Dabber stuff.

My vote's for @ohmygodimsohigh AND @VCBud (Vape Critic is a big dabber.) Personally, for a well round initial review, why not give a vape to both of them to review. Letting them both review it would show that you truly believe in the build & functioning of your product, as both will review honestly. And most of us are familiar with their vape taste. Just my :2c:. If only 1, would be pleased with either one.

I wish @herbivore21 was still on this forum!

I like reviewers that purchase their own vapes (pretty sure that 420vapezone does)... the problem with most other reviewers is that the review is mostly just an advertisement/ promo with some "negatives" to TRY to not show bias. This is what happens when they receive the device for FREE. What vape company would EVER send you another vape if you gave a not so glowing review right?

The REAL reviews will be right in this very thread from real world users that spend their own hard earned money on it. Still debating this one for concentrates only for some mobility.... it's exactly what I need, but i'm too apprehensive to be an early adopter based on so many past poor experiences. And based on what i've read about Dr. Dabber's other products, this one is definitely going to need to prove itself first. Looks pretty awesome so far!

@stickstones

In the videos above, posted by @Dr.Dabber , I noticed a lot of vapor escaping with the initial heating cycle.
Is this normal or can it be eliminated?

Your vid on IG had zero leaks.

Going to be interesting to see the results when it is commonly available.

Could just be condensate from a not perfectly cleaned cap, or even not squeaky clean swabbed dish. :2c:

Could be but the way induction heating works is that the metal crucible is being heated, conduction heat, and this in turn heats the material.
Interested to see the abv after a hot hit.

I think you're referring to flower and i'm referring to concentrates? The reason in the herb video is because it's conducting and releasing vapour. This isn't a vape for you my friend! At least not for herb.. reminds me of the very early old school globe types.

LOL, I know... But still interested in the abv pic! It happened with both flower and extract in the two videos above.
Induction convection should be next on their list!! Should not be too hard!
Have a lump of heatable safe material with holes that the induction heater heats and then you draw air through the hot material and through your herb.
New idea time!
