I just joined the club - pending shipping. I'm not keen on the app, but it sounds like the functionality of the app isn't critical. I purchased a few terp pearls (6mm - too big). Now to re-read this thread to see what I overlooked the first time through.

I mention that more for the sake of completeness, my greater complaint is the annoying ergonomics, but I fixed that by adding a six inch piece of clear plastic tubing to the mouthpiece. It brings the total height up to the original Switch height, which is a nice comfortable lean-in, without the Crink that comes with the stock alignment. This also allows a free and unfettered eye on the volume and density of vapor that's flowing through the glass, which is just so helpful.
I was thinking about the same ergonomics. Did you use an attachment between the plastic tubing and the mouthpiece?

As I wait in anticipation, I'm working on a couple of things, including accessories to go with the new device.
  1. The sapphire insert was out of stock at the site that sold the unit. Found a few sites selling them for $79.95, and one (LighterUSA) for $73. But as a complete noob, I'm thinking there's no rush on this add-on.
  2. What cases are you using to transport - ideally smell proof? I am already looking at Ryot, Stashlogix and Skunkbags, but mainly wondering about size that fits the S2 and some accessories.
  3. The app - is there a way to access the app without going through the Apple Store? I'm generally reluctant to use IoT apps for anything due to privacy concerns/paranoia, so tying the S2 to my Apple ID would not be ideal. I have a few older iPhones laying around that have been wiped, so they might work if I don't have to go through the Apple Store.

1) I'm still running stock insert. I personally don't feel the need for the sapphire insert....at the moment at least.

2) I got the DrD Tour bag as part of a Switch2 combo. Haven't used it yet. I'll just grab my Pivot for on the go.

3) I don't think so. Have to use the LabLink browser app to access the DrD web app.

I have been having an absolute nightmare trying to order a Peak Pro from Zee Vapor. It has me seriously reconsidering the whole thing, and I'm now looking into the Switch 2.

I know the basic differences - the quartz dish vs atomiser, the battery life, inclusion of a hot knife, quartz wont chaz the way a normal atomiser might etc

But I'm still quite new to e-rigs. I guess what I want to try and ask (I had a hard time wording it) is what are the practical differences of the experience? If I hit a Switch 2 with the quartz vs a peak pro/carta/core/something with a more traditional atomiser - what would I notice? And what's the trade off? Is there a difference in heat up time and length of the "session" or the "firing"?

The most discussed benefit of the Switch 2 in this thread is flavour (I did read the whole thing!). But I'm more of "medicate quick and get out" kind of person - am I sacrificing power or efficiency of extraction with a Switch 2? And how breakable is the quartz? Is it one of those high quality things where it would actually survive a pretty decent bump? (While obviously aiming for it to not happen)

One of my concerns is with the induction heating. In looking at dry herb TEDs, there has never been a device where I preferred the induction heater over a flame. Is that just a completely irrelevant apples vs oranges comparison?

Finally, if I go with the Switch 2, what are the recommended add-ons?

Any other info would be super appreciated if I've missed anything!

(Ping @Dr.Dabber if you'd like to weigh in with any help!)

Can't really do comparisons directly per FC rules. I own the big 3 carta xl, puffco xl and switch 2. Switch 2 retires everything else short of using an enail.
If the Switch 2 had a whip adapter to run through other glass I'd would be even more amazing

I don't think I was asking for a comparison, I was asking for the differences between the Switch 2 and the atomiser style that everything else uses. I think it's a series of questions explicitly about the Switch 2?

At least from what I’ve seen, looks like the main difference between the switch and my proxy’s atomiser (should be a scaled down version of the peak’s atomiser) is the switch’s vapour goes through the side of the banger directly into the glass whereas the puffco style has the vapour travel inside the atomiser and out the bottom. Major benefit appears to be that the switch should have fewer unreachable places for reclaim to build up since the primary vapour channel should be entirely visible and swabbable.

Sucks———[510 Cart]———[Proxy/Peak]———[dab straw]———[Switch]———[quartz banger]———[quartz slurper]———Amazing

IMHO. All the others are ceramic atty’s, Switch is a quartz (or sapphire) mini banger.

A quartz or sapphire mini banger with burning hot Ti metal in the vape path. Ceramic also has the same chemical composition as sapphire, just arranged in a different structure, and coated with quartz.

Look at the holes in your quartz or sapphire cup.... it depends how you position it, but even with one hole right at the air path to the glass, the other needs to travel through the path that gets hit by the heat from the piping hot Ti as it's not even close to being isolated. This is similar to D-Nail SiC (or sapphire) Halo, except in their case the Ti isn't the heatsink lol.

“Burning hot Ti metal” is more than a tad hyperbolic. There is Ti present in the air path. If that’s a problem for you, this is hardly the only vape to avoid, but I understand.

Every portable is a compromise, if you don’t like compromise, use a quartz slurper.

It's the vape path, not the air path. If you don't think that up to 500f+ Titanium metal isn't burning hot perhaps you should try touching it for yourself for some real science. I haven't personally used any other vapes with a hot titanium coil in the vape path with the exception of the d-nail halo, but that's more like an enail, and the very reason I don't use it anymore.

The Switch 2 uses Grade 2 titanium and some looking shows the off gas (titanium oxide) temp. that can happen in normal air is 1200 C/ 2192 F. I know I'm not concerned.

If anything that is physically hot to your human touch is “burning hot”, okay. What you think that small factoid has to do with science remains a mystery.

There are literally entire emails that are made out of Ti. You don’t seem to like that, cool. Insinuating there is some science behind your subjective opinion is a stretch.

What better science than your own n=1? You're the one stating that burning hot Ti metal is a "tad hyperbolic" so go for it see for yourself as if it's even debatable.

Of course I didn't say that though, any other strawmans for me today?

The Ti inside of the Switch 2 is likely hot enough to cause discomfort and potentially some minor burning to human skin. Using this fact you should avoid touching this Ti when it is hot with exposed human skin. Science!

Update and flounder alert.

Tried the S2 today for the first time. I had unpacked the device weeks ago but had otherwise kept it in a cabinet. I downloaded the app (notwithstanding the above post), carefully followed the video - and had just started when I realized the carb cap wasn't on there. I managed to make it work by covering the opening with my thumb. SMH. Then I spent a (seemingly) inordinate amount of time searching for the cap, thinking to myself "was it in the box?" I can't remember vividly either way, so I ordered a replacement.

Such a flounder.

Edit - OMG. After ordering the replacement, and posting the above, I took one final look in the place it would never be. Found it. Guess the extra cap (and I threw in an extra quartz insert - you know, to be efficient with shipping) will one day come in handy. And it appears the S2 works.

I agonised over which of the big 2 devices i was going to buy, and even went as far as ordering a Peak Pro from Zee Vapor.

Then there was a weird convergence of events that made me change up my whole order to a Switch 2 - Zee Vapor broke the glass top I'd ordered and weren't able to provide a replacement that I was in love with (for the price), it took a weirdly long time after they had my money to help me sort it out, and in the meantime I was having a terrible week with OCD which coincided with me chazzing my New Peak chamber after nearly a year. That, along with a random youtube video that popped up was enough happenstance for me to change up my order. (I figure when you spend half your life begging for a sign, you have to take them when they present themselves)

Can't believe how much I love this Switch. I reckon there has only been two other occasions where I was head over heels in love with a vape so immediately. Crushes dabs, great flavour, the Drop is economically quite beautiful... and it won't chaz. Dunno why it took so long for me to decide in hindsight. It's not perfect - the magnet cap kind of sucks - but it's pretty damn close to perfect for me.

Yeah I love mine too! I’ve put just over 20 dabs through it so far.

It’s funny, I ended up ordering my switch 2 after a failed attempt at ordering another device too. I tried to order a pockety but couldn’t get their site to process my payments and after 24 hours of trying, and them offering solutions I wasn’t on board with, I gave up.
I similarly agonized over what to order. lol. I had spent a solid month researching devices and changing my mind before I finally landed on the pockety and I wasn’t looking forward to doing more research again. Then I came across a crazy good sale on the switch 2 (which I really hadn’t even been considering, but kept reading amazing things about) and said “**** it”, despite it still being like 2x my planned budget. lol

I am definitely planning to upgrade the carb cap. That will be my first upgrade. I’m thinking either a restricted cloud spinner cap, or this cool adjustable air flow cap from GemCupGlass. Still undecided as of now.

I love everything about this switch 2 so far, except that it makes me cough my butt off. Using lower temps is helping that issue, but I’d still like to improve it more and I think the carb cap is a good start.

Do you mind posting links? I think I figured out the first one, but the GemCup site has quite a few caps, and they vary wildly in prices.

Sure!

This is the one I was looking it. It’s the cheapest one. They have other colored ones but they are more money.

Here is a more expensive colored one:

And they have some crazy expensive ones too, like this:

If you search their website for “switch 2” all the different adjustable and non adjustable switch 2 caps will show in the search results.

Edit - here:

Here is the link to the cloud vortex caps too, just in case you need it.

That links to add the switch 2 accessories on their site. They have extra restricted, restricted, normal and high air flow caps. Then they have each version with and without a carb hole.

I am still debating which one I’d want. Either restricted or extra restricted. Debating on if I want the carb hole. It would be convenient for clearing the chamber and it will allow me to feather in air if I needed to. So I’m probably leaning that direction.
