OK, is there a child/roommate lock function available with the app?
There’s not currently, but that’s a great idea. I’ll go ahead and put this in our suggestions post for a future update. If you’re not already there, check out our dr.dabber discord channel. We’re always listening to our customers feedback and take suggestions plus we have a great community of like minded people.

Just curious which others you've tried and if the puffco peak 3dxl is one of them?
Yes 3DXL was one of them... just got the pivot as well, before that was Aeris, proxy, carta DAB Ready ... then crappy devices... I will have to re-visit the 3DXL and try low temps 450-490 to see if I can get anything in flavour in comparison... On Puffco I've been at 520 for literally years it seems... but with the Switch (and the descending temp) I'm not getting those nasty end hits and I have it set for 50 sec at 500 or 480 for a good rosen... Cheers

So... just received switch 2 in mail. Not got the material to use with it, yet. Is it normal... for the titanium chamber to arrive in a mildly oxidized state?

It's possible that is just a protective oxide layer perhaps? @invertedisdead ?

I saw someone break their glass on reddit just installing it so be careful with it. It seems like it's fairly thin.

Titanium always has a protective oxide layer, it instantly forms when the material is exposed to oxygen, just like aluminum does.

If the titanium shows signs of color right out of the box it could suggest bench testing by the manufacturer, especially considering this is a new release; probably a good thing if that’s true.

Makes sense. Hoping to hear someone else with the same oddity. It only came out oct 24 and they shipped on 6th after being sold out over the weekend. Doesn't look like it could be anything except straight from the factory. So... I have received returns in online sale purchases; enough to make me wonder what is happening, in this case.

It oxidizes from heat and we have to run heating cycles prior to ship out to confirm function

Loving my Switch 2 so far. Would love to see a repo for profiles with a download/use count and even comments. Would be cool to see how everyone uses their device, with all the options we have.

Speaking of, how is everyone preferring their hits with the sapphire insert? Ascend, descend, or steady? And are you using terp pearls or a different cap?

I'll let you know when it lands on Tuesday! I haven't tasted a sapphire dab for a few years now so i'm so i'm super stoked!! I would love Dr. Dabber to release more inserts down the road (which they haven't confirmed nor denied), and even though they haven't fucked with them before, i'd love to see a nice red ruby insert! So happy to hear you're loving yours!

Not sure how accurate, but I've been told that ruby and sapphire are functionally the same for our purposes. Though I 100% would love a polished version of the insert, whether it's clear, blue, or red. Would also love aln and sic inserts just for comparison's sake.

Also can't wait for 1st/3rd party caps - easily lowest hanging fruit for improvement with the device.

Yep, they are and @invertedisdead is the expert on this one. IIRC, they are identical chemical composition save for there being a touch of (contaminant?) that causes the red in ruby. Even so, I always still noticed a difference in function although it was with bangers and torched cold starts. @lazylathe noticed this as well. Both are light years ahead of quartz imo for torched inserts in bangers, but with the thermal conductivity being so much higher than quartz, i'm assuming this is actually a detriment in descent mode?

I feel exactly the same. Even though I vastly prefer a gemstone surface over ceramic like sic, if the quality was high enough i'd like to try as well just to switch it up. Anyone have the aln from the switch 1? Just curious if it suffers the same yellow staining due to porosity like the other aln inserts i've seen before (Fadespace?). Also is aln not prone to thermal shock like sic? My memory is a bit foggy on this one.

Same material composition, only difference is trace minerals added to produce color - chromium for red rubies, titanium for blue sapphire, etc. And white sapphire is pure crystalline aluminum oxide.

The colored gemstones affect the IR wavelength which has some effect on increasing radiant heat transfer; but it’s most noticeable when heating with a source that actually supplies significant amounts of IR (a big torch)

Induction heating relies largely on conduction heat transfer, so the thermal properties of a colored gemstone would be less noticeable as less IR is emitted and absorbed compared to torching.

From what I understand the addition of the additives increases the difficulty in manufacturing and greatly increases the costs for no benefit. We’ve thought about it for sure but at the end of the day want to be able to put out something affordable and the colored sapphire would be almost 1/2 the cost of the unit.

Also @raisin I just bought a mothership spinner cap and pearl for mine after trying from a local shop. Any spinner with 16.5mm puck or less will fit.
