It's a (mostly) conduction vape, so you need to pack it semi tight and full. My dotleaf is a heavy hitter, and I don't understand how it could be anything but a fog machine on temp2-4.

Curious if this is a result of new firmware.

Just a shot in the dark, but maybe your batteries aren't juicy enough? Because performance seems to be so weak in spite of every other report.

I doubt it, because the dotleaf has a error flash for a battery that is old or not up to the task. I found this when I tried really old cells.

Make sure you cover the slit in the door when you vape. I got weak hits when I didnt cover, if you are vaping on a waterpiece covering doesn't make much of a difference cause you can pull enough air to get good hits

I’ve been following this saga from the beginning. I haven’t gleaned any one particular issue or solution. There are various ‘fixes’ suggested in this discussion for the myriad issues many of us have experienced. I frankly became frustrated and gave up knocking them all down.

Personally, I think the top oring and the oven not getting enough pressure on the contacts is the main culprit. Outside of the obvious warm start firmware that I believe has been fixed.

I'm baffled at why they didn't make the top cap thicker and the top oring only slightly protrude. Long ago I posited that it's better to use the top of the body interior for calibration and support than an oring.

For those with success, it seems filling the bowl all the way is for the best performance. If you think of using Sticky Bricks, it advises you to use a thin layer to learn on. Those who make the jump when they fill up the bowl much more.

Its a good device but has its issues that I don't think they are ready for. The communication has been too inconsistent for me and I've given up for now at least.

Yeah it was just packing issue I have to admit! I have no experience with this type of vaporiser unless you count the mighty which works however you pack it. Now that I'm tamping it down fairly hard and filling to the top this device is just pumping out vapour, is great to watch through a water piece.
Thanks again for helping me out, tbh I was just a bit worried because a second hand tinymight turned up for me on the same day which I couldn't get to work either, I knew they were both relatively unreliable but thought at least one of them would work!
Well thanks to this awesome community I've learned what i was doing wrong with the dotleaf and fixed the tinymight, I'm really very grateful!

I'm so glad to hear it! Looking forward to hearing about your dotleaf use going forward. I find a tighter pack makes the vapor bigger but also cooler (for driptip use).

@dotleaf_Alex Received my replacement ovens a few days ago. Thanks for the speedy overseas shipping. So good to be dotLeafing again. I wish I'd bought a couple of more ovens for you to add to the box. It would be nice to load ovens just once a day.

Another combustion event after battery change, it combusted the entire load this time.

I 5 clicked off then turned back on, how do you you prevent a combust after battery change?

Like for example, say the ideal battery is a 15A max discharge, would a 30a max discharge make everything more powerful and easier to over heat?

I'm really interested in the dotleaf as it seems pretty decent, especially for the size. How does the medium heating on the dot leaf compared to the TM in throat harshness, what about on the higher settings? I know some of these compact vapes are usually harsher, wondering if this is the case.

I’m wondering the same, if I gotta wait awhile for them to get it together I will, I would love to replace my fury edge with this for sessions on hikes and get something else for on demand

It shouldn't work that way, the electric components draw as much current as they need but not more if more are available. Except it's badly designed, a higher amp battery should lead to normal performance.

About the harshness, make sure to get a light tamp on your pack (looser the pack the more harsh it is). Also try to hit it slow, faster you vape the more likely you torch your throat even with water.

After vaping it few times you might find you need to pop out tan inner oven piece open and take out washer and tan colored 8 hole cover, then lightly tap to remove any debris.

Yeah a tight pack definitely makes for cooler more comfortable rips, as well as more vapor. Best of both worlds. But don't go too tight! The weight of the tamper tool is enough.

Even more exciting, I found out half packing works great! You don't even need a spacer (after all that lol)! I picked up on something @Deecee mentioned, I think, and a lightbulb went off. I just half pack it at the bottom using the included tool. Then, when the unit is first used, the "puck" slides to the top of the chamber and stays put. This still gets conduction from the walls, and probably a bit of convection through the middle. The first couple pulls I thought it combusted, because the clouds were huge. But nope, still partly green, with lots more pulls left in it.

Wow, this is a REALLY good tip. I just tried this and it works swimmingly. Which is great, one less thing to fuss with.

Well guys, I think my dotLeaf's reached its limit. I'm starting to have serious issues with my device. 5 of my last 6 bowls, all but the fourth most recent, have combusted. I deeply cleaned them each time, through glass and through mouthpiece, all sorts of temperatures, but combusting more than a useable amount now. Sending them an email, I got exactly 30 days out of my unit. Hope it won't take too long, I don't want to switch to joints now!

Sorry for the doublepost, I've figured I can still use it on temp 2 if I'm constantly puffing on it. The majority of my combustion events have happened when I have to cough and can't baby the oven by puffing on it. Riding it to the end, but it's really on its last legs. Still going to be sourcing a replacement, but at least I have a little bit of an alternative to smoking dugouts.

Edit: Welp, now it's not recognizing the chamber at all

Nah, old Ultem one, I've figured that if I jam a folded crutch in between the device and the o-ring it will recognize the chamber, and using that puffing technique to keep the temperature down I can get it to work. Still, not a very functional device. I've heard good things from people with really early and really recent units, but seems like the mid-recent ones have some big issues.

Still, issue-free here with my newest gen chamber (probably about 30 chambers in now, knock on wood ) I've been mindful about manually shutting off the unit before battery change. Other than that I've just been using it. No issues with ambient temp changes. I took it for a 7-hour snowmobile ride last week. Stuck it in an outside pocket and hit it when it was ice cold soon as I got back home. No issues.

I'm almost always on temp 4 or 4+boost, the only inconsistency I've had with my new oven is a few times my ABV has been much lighter than it should. Could be a packing issue, who knows.

Waiting for some Canadian vendors to stock new-gen ovens so I can pick up a cpl more, these are a bit tedious to manage on the go, a 3 pack would be perfect for the day.
