Not to someone who already smokes tobacco or cigarettes it isn't. I've always found a pure joint to be way too harsh and not enjoyable to smoke at all. Thankfully i don't have to do either anymore.

I haven't smoked cigarettes for around 30 years but when I did, It never occurred to me to mix tobacco in with a joint. They are so different. I'm in Canada. Mind you I never rolled my own cigs. I bought commercial pre-rolled filter cigarettes. So, it's not like we had loose tobacco lying around.

I'm not 100℅ on this but when i grew up in the 80s all we really had was red seal black and zero. This was mixed with tobacco or a cigarette then smoked. Weren't much weed about then and it was Thai or dirt weed if their was.

I think that's why still so many people mix cannabis and tobacco. 'Tis what you know from your ancestors. When weed became popular in the eighties (I bet EVERYone who smoked then remembered her/his first encounter with Netherweed, like the first Skunk #1) people were not very flexible. They did the same with weed as they did with hashish. Some people would say: "I cannot roll a cigar size fatty with pure weed, that's too expensive and intoxicating." Also people were used to bogart those fatties and you can't really do that with a small stickie. I have found most people not to be very flexible in their habits. As consuming cannabis is still an underground thing, you act like your peer group. I hang with a lot of americans in their hamburg diaspora at that time, so I kind of got socialized to smoke pure weed from the very beginning, even though I was still smoking tobacco for another some 15 years.

I don't like joints anymore at all. I don't even get that high from combustion anymore. I actually think I get ridiculously high while vaping and hate t breaks, but never minded taking them while combusting.

No. Smoking ANYTHING is unhealthy.
Vaporizing I sent not a particularly healthy
Activity either if you want to be honest with yourself. Vapor (straight cannabis) can and will irritate your lungs. Just not nearly as much as smoke. Marijuana smoke contains lots of components.
Yes some irritate.

I have and use three vaporizers. All three are considered top of the line. All three can irritate my lungs and throat in their own way depending on the flowers I use.
My own home grown that is organic is my personal gold standard. Why ? Because it doesn't irritate... except when I put in too much material into my volcano then the vapor becomes harsh. I say less us more. And don't smoke... ANYTHING.

The volcano is a harsh vaporizer, I used one as a daily driver for years. It's the driest vapor I've ever found and the bag seems to compound the effect.

I'm new to the whole vape scene, stopped smoking around February this year.

I can attest to the diffusion of blunts in Europe: that's the only thing I ever smoked up until now. Roll joints with pure weed was just not doable: the weed is too strong here, and it's expensive so you need to mix it with something else. I saw someone puffing on a chillum maybe once, but the only reason I know about bongs, pipes, one hitters, and more recently dabs is the internet and YT :D

One of the main reasons for this I guess is the huge amount of people that smoke cigarettes, compared to the US: at that point smoking one thing or the other is kinda the same (especially in States where weed consumption is tolerated), and as such mixing tobacco with MJ is not a big deal. Me, I used to smoke weed after dinner and pass on the usual couple of cigarettes, so put tobacco in my blunt made sense, in a way.

When I started vaping tho....that changed everything!
It's just great. I feel good, I use a tiny bit of material and I get where I want to be.

The only downside for me really is the social aspect of it. Being that we're so behind in weed culture in the EU means that every time I go out with friends they offer a blunt.
My choices then are:
- I accept. I stopped doing this because I realised that smoke just doesn't get me high anymore, and my throat kills me the day after;
- I decline. Cue all of the what?? WHY?!?. At that point I feel compelled to introduce my interlocutor to vaping, how healthy and cheap it is, "this is my new acquisition look how fucking cool it is", bla bla bla. Which, don't get me wrong, I like to do because I feel like I'm saving lives, but sometimes I just want to relax, get high and enjoy my night without the superhero/salesman feeling :)

On a side, good note: I'm travelling abroad for a couple of weeks, and I left my vapes to a heavy smoker friend of mine who was the first really interested in vaping. I sure hope he'll get the hang of it and decide to buy one for himself!

Cheers everyone, have a great day!

Frankly, I never understood this. It only takes a few trials to roll small, decent joints without tobacco, getting you a lot higher than a mixed joint, thus actually saving expensive material. Also inhaling tobacco smoke the way you inhale from a joint can get you hooked on tobacco really bad. For me personally, kicking tobacco was harder than kicking cocaine, and it even never did anything nice for me except getting rid of the monkey on my back, caused by tobacco. Worst, dumbest drug of all. I'm not at all advocating combustion at all, but if you do, leave the tobacco out of it.

Not in my experience, and definitely not for solo use. I always "microdosed" to keep my tolerance low, because bud was/is super expensive and hard to find, and so potent I didn't need much.
The amount of weed I would put in blunts was so little, it was impossible to not use some other material mixed with it. The only real possibility, now that I think about it, would have been to roll like 3 centimeters long joints, but that never crossed my mind because, as I said, blunts was the only thing I was ever around, and I was also smoking cigarettes back then so not a big deal.
Also, I liked the routine and the experience as much as the high itself.

I'm so happy I quit tobacco, tho.
I wasn't a heavy smoker by any means: I used to roll my own cigarettes and smoke only 2 or 3 per day, except during a night out, so kicking it wasn't particularly hard for me.
One could actually say I was keeping with it just because of blunts, for when you buy tobacco and you have it around, you'll smoke it.
That's why finding out about vaping and this forum was so great! My life has definitely improved!

I used to love mixed joints. Growing up I had access only to hash 99.9% of the time, and a pure hash joint is not so fun. Then when bud became easier to find, the habit carried on. You don't get as high for sure, but it's far more efficient (and so far cheaper), and we always had bongs/pipes if a pure hit of weed was required.

I'm pretty sure if I grew up near Mexico (or any place where outdoor weed was cheap & plentiful) tobacco wouldn't have entered into the equation.

Yep. I'd turn down a blunt in a second, but never a joint. I haven't rolled one since mid march because I like my IQ so much. I think out of everyone I know who smokes, which is like 20+ people. Only 4 of them vape the majority of the time, but they will also roll joints on occasion. Age ranges are from 25-45. I think the generation, and locale have a lot to do with it for sure.

I have noticed something here. It's not everyone, but I have noticed some of us no longer get high from Combustion. I combusted for 15 years and used to get blazed. Now when I combust I just get a little light-headed if that. I wonder what happened? I know it is not my imagination and I am not being a vapor snob. I also smoked out of my pipe and didn't get high either.

Do I smoke joints? Sure and pipes and bongs too. My preference is a vape but when I am being social or for a change of pace its torch time.

I think that's the carbon monoxide (CO) in the fume. This has a much faster effect in your perception than THC. It's docking the red blood cells that would otherwise carry oxygen, giving you a slight feeling of asphyxiation. So the "effect" of combustion is a lot faster than vaporizing, which possibly makes it hard to kick combustion for some who are used to this pretty much immediate effect. When you quit combusting in general, the immediate effect of an occasional joint will probably/occasionally not be identified as part of the total smoking experience any more but perceived as what it is: a dull and boring experience that's basically lowering your IQ by 10 points, which probably doesn't let you enjoy the following effect of the THC, compared to vaporizing. Apparently peoples' perception and valuation of these processes is more or less fine-tuned and detailed and thus highly individual. In a circle of friends, I might accept that effect, from time to time. It doesn't even make me cough that hard, so I see it a second best experience which still is pretty good, if it's good weed (I usually provide ;)) and good friends. I'm a bit picky with both, so that's working fine for me.

Coming back to the tobacco: even though the only consciously perceivable effect of nicotine is the monkey jumping off your back, it pretty much immediately starts raising your dopamine levels. You don't actually feel a big effect of this, but you may miss it quite desperately, fuelling the craving for a ciggy. And this effect is also a lot faster than that of the THC. Another good reason not to mix these two herbs.

In Australia in the region I first combusted it was the standard for everyone I knew who consumed to smoke a 50/50 mix. The reasons I mixed and was introduced to mixing when I started was the moisture content and price of the newly introduced expensive commercial 'HYDRO' which most often was very moist and fresh. We roasted our cigs to help with the burning characteristics of the wet hydro and the heavy Leb blonde hash that was around for a few years, unfortunately me and my friends we got addicted to tobacco at the same time looking back in hindsight :mental::puke: It's crazy to see that American youth are starting to take up this stupid practice WTF. I used to point out to my friends how Americans are superior stoners in that they are not stupid enough to contaminate their herb with an addictive poison.
