Do You Go To A Chiropractor Or Think That They Are Quacks

So what's the story on ART? What's their philosophy?

I love my current PT but not sure what they'd call her style.
I like that I'm involved-- I can say on exercise XY, it feels better if I do it slightly different/show her and she can will say yes or no, that really changes intended purpose etc.

Or her substitute that I said that when I do the bridge stretch, wow but my left thigh is REALLY tight. So he feels around in my hip, then has me lie down, and announces my left leg is shorter than the right---that's why thigh is tight as pelvis is tilted.
Proceeds to work over that hip/thigh and voila, the next time I do the bridges, that thigh is 80% better.
A good chiro and PT helps me keep tuned up as I get a lot of sports injuries

My dad had a bad back (wiped out hillclimbing motorcycles back in the old days) and saw chiropractors religiously until he passed away. When he was still working he had to take 2 weeks off work when his back went out due to reaching across his desk 'funny' to pick up a ruler...

I didn't see one until one day I moved a box from a desk in front of me to a desk beside me. As I twisted it felt exactly like someone had just punched me hard in the small of the back. Not a soul in the room, so wtf? So now I see chiropractors, especially ones that specialize in ART, or Active Release Therapy, which is pretty special. Also one of the PTs at a pain clinic I attended a couple of years ago introduced me to acupuncture. For a couple of years an acupuncture session could give me 24 to 36 hours with absolutely no pain in my lumbar spine. There was nothing else that could come even close.

Don't confuse acupuncture with needling - similar needles is about it. Needling is used to release muscle knots and tension, and also works great, but it's a whole different modality...

I've had acupuncture and cupping done at my Chiropractor. I always look forward to my trips to the Chiropractor!

I went to a chiropractor for the first time last summer for my back. I have no history of back problems, I exercise regularly and I'm in great shape. the pain was so bad I could barely move. My chiro uses the ART techniques and after one session I was relieved of most of the pain. After 4 visits I decided to stop going... I still stretch every night in the same way he advised during our office visits in order to prevent another episode. From my experience, the benefits of a chiropractor were very effective. The A.R.T. is a very deep tissue massage which also alleviates and prevents scar tissue.

I've been going to my chiropractor ever since I was hit driving. I have some back pain and ligament damage in my neck from the whiplash and on the xray my neck was straightish before but now it is more of a reverse c. I have been getting adjusted weekly and recently started getting massages(which helped for a couple days). Today I've had neck pain all day and was wondering if you guys had any experience with this?

Today its been hurting where the top left of my neck connects to my head. My chiropractor says it should take at least 4-6 months for the ligament damage to heal and possibly longer for the reverse c if ever. The only option for the reverse c he told me was that I'd have to rest my neck on a rolled up towel for 10 minutes a day for 2 years. Was gonna make my own thread before I saw this one.

If the chiro didn't give you exercises to strengthen your neck, you could ask or maybe see a physical therapist. Your head is heavy, you can build your neck muscles up to help compensate for the injury.

I have recently fell victim to back pain due to a bulged C6-C7 disc and mild cervical spondylosis. Going to try a chiropractor. Doc suggested 'pain management' and physical therapy. If only my state allowed MMJ for chronic pain......

I'm hoping this will keep me from having to do shots/pills until surgery is inevitable.

............................................................................
X2. Wish we had MMJ for pain here too

I had bad episode of L4-5 bulging disc that put me in bed for over 2 weeks---literally crawl to the bathroom was all I could do. Nothing helped during that flare-up I still do my PT exercises for it every day and feel that has helped stop repeat episodes, once my body was able to get PT workover and PT exercises.

Chiro seems great for a one time adjustment---kink in neck or back.
Physical therapy seems much better for long run/ chronic/ on-going issues. But it only works for those that do their PT exercises every day!!!!! Those that are willing to do the hard work to help their own cause.

Due to a string of injuries, I now do PT exercises for wrist, for lower back, and for shoulder injuries LOL
But I think they really help

good luck

EDIT: P.S. I have physical therapy tomorrow and fyi, I sometimes jog to my car afterwards as it feels so good (so much better) when things feel aligned and right.....

Please, please be carefull and remember chiropractice is NOT a credited way of dealing with health issues...https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.or...-neck-linked-to-stroke-in-a-6-year-old-child/

I think my Chiropractor, with 10 years of education and "Dr." in front of his name would argue with your meme. I personally believe medical doctors intentionally try to discredit chiropractic doctors because they do not want to share the money and they do this at the cost of their patients health.
I'm sure he would, he'd be wrong though, getting A PhD in the mail from a fraudulent institution does not equate with years of hard work and tested learning...
The rest of the statement is a bit too paranoid and simply so wrong to even go into...:(

.

Actually, he is a medical doctor, who turned to chiro 40 years ago because he saw a better way than just cutting open people needlessly. Do you want me to start posting "surgeries gone wrong" horror stories also? I can and will. :)

I was narrow minded as fuck also a few years back but once you see a "miracle" with your own eyes, well.. It's hard to convince me it does not work, now.

Remember, the surgery on my daughter would have cost $6-10k and there was not a very good chance it would work at all. She would have risked being paralyzed and even death as well as other complications such as infections from surgery.

My chiro fixed her with a $20 copay in one visit. She did go back for several follow up visits due to muscle memory, for maybe $200 total costs. Almost 2.5 years old now and she has not been back.

Deal with it. :)

Edit: I should have my wife add up all the bills from all the doctors visits, the specialists and the physical therapy from the first 9 months of "doctors" help. ( bet it's over $15k added to the $40k/4 day stay in the NICU when she was born)

Your pic from the meme thread is appropriate I think, here.

Viewed most of it but IMO she was very biased against chiros and focused on horror stories, why they are bad, etc.
All I know is my chiro has never mentioned subluxation and I question her implying that all/most chiros follow this credo-that sublux is responsible for all body problems.

Yes, certainly many bad chiros but many bad doctors too, e.g. my dad had 7 failed back surgeries and surgeon would always say--Well, I've looked at the X-rays/MRIs and everything is now fine---not.

Chiros are one tool in the med toolbox, just as med Drs are. Thankfully our biggest hospital here has a sub-division of "Alternative Medicine" as they are smart enough to realize each has their place.

OMG, I just flashed on what her video would look like discussing " medical cannabis vs traditional medicine".

@grokit definitely gonna ask for some neck building exercises when I go in later. Thank you.

Wish I had an option to try acupuncture or something else

@Havelock Vetenari I read similar things when looking up chiropractics and I also don't like cracking knuckles or anything but have been getting adjusted. I have my doubts whether adjustments will help me but it was one of the few options I had. I'm still uneasy with people cracking my neck especially since its been hurting. I looked through the articles but don't have the time for the video at the moment but it seems like she is not a fan of chiropractors. Do you have any recommendations that could possibly help?

Thanks all for your recommendations/insight.

Of all the primary care docs I've used over the years the one I have now is my all time favorite. The reason I like the care so much is because he listens and isn't afraid to suggest an approach that is less invasive and not so mainstream. For example...I had a bad reaction to statins a few years back and my old primary care doc told me it was all in my head. After I stopped taking the statins the issues stopped and so did my use of the old primary doc. I changed docs to the one I have now and he suggested I try red yeast rice in place of the old statins. I had no adverse reaction to the red yeast rice but it didn't lower my cholesterol enough so the new doc suggested a statin based on the same components of red yeast rice since I tolerated it well. I had no issues with the new statin.

Recently I've had some Lower back pain, some shoulder issues and what my primary care doc thinks may be sciatica. He recommended I see a chiropractor who he has had some good results with. When I asked if there was another chiropractor closer to my home and what he thought about chiropractics in general he said 'It's like any other medical service ... it depends on the practitioner and there are others closer to where you live but I would suggest you try him first so you have something to judge the others by in case you decide to stick with it'.

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to point out how good my primary care doc is AND that he doesn't think chiropractics is voodoo based unless the practitioner is.

Was your reaction muscle pain? That's one of the most common side-effects. Elevated liver enzymes are another. Thank God that hasn't been an issue for me.

In regards to chiropractors, Kaiser Permanente offers chiropractic care along with acupuncture and I doubt that if indeed, chiropractors were quacks, they would't offer these kinds of services or have chiropractors under their employ.

I've had various issues pop up over the years. I have a lot of joint and arthritis pain along with some nerve pain. I have had the same chiropractor for 12 years. He also gives out yoga excerises that help well when things flair up.

A couple of years ago I woke up with some neck pain. Thinking I probably slept with my neck bent wrong. I figured it would go away in a day or so. After a few days it progressed and got worse. Eventually my head felt too heavy for my neck to hold my head up. I was using a towel to keep my head held up.

At first I didn't want my chiropractor to touch me. I was in so much pain. My doctor said to give it a few more days. I went into my chiropractor. With his gentle adjustments I was getting better the next day. After a week my neck was back to normal.

I've also once had what I thought felt like a rib out. I couldn't take big breath without pain. Again my chiropractor knew what to do. After some adjustments I could tell that whatever he did I could already feel a difference.

I've met people who have refused to go to a chiropractor and have just continued to go to their doctor along with some physical therapy. Do what you feel comfortable doing but don't rule out a good well known chiropractor in the area where you live.

Mine has been a tremendous help for me living with everyday pain. He has all my X-rays and ultrasounds as well as my bone density test.

The only time I get a hold of my doctor for skeletal pain is for a referral for a steroid epidural.

This may be TMI but you did ask......My reaction was explosive diarrhea each morning that began the day after I started taking them. I was told it takes time for your body to get used to them. When some low level muscle soreness kicked in a few weeks later to accompany the diarrhea I decided to take my own advice.

Start it at around 4.45m and forget the subtitles, just listen to the complete gibberish he's spouting here :
Sadly people are just that, people who will believe just about anything.
Chiropracters (and indeed acupuncturists) are nothing but quacks and no amount of anectdotal evidence is going to change that.

^^That is your statement right?
If you think all(or even most)regular doctors are nothing but moneygrabbing folk who do harm to their patients on purpose, i do think you are paranoid, yes...
I like to think i adhere to the scientific principle and like nothing more than to be shown wrong about things, means i learned something new. :)
I do think that's not going to happen anytime soon with modern day snakeoil practices like acupuncture, homeopathy or chiropractice, simply due to these being studied quite enough to be able to say there are no significant, physical effects to be had from these.

Do You Go To A Chiropractor Or Think That They Are Quacks...Some are some aren’t it depends on what one is looking for in treatment and the honesty as well as skills of the practitioner. I can get symptomatic relief from most any competent chiropractor but there is no way any of them can address the underlying structural problems. The good ones tell me that at the first visit but the ones I tend not to like just keep having me back in for symptomatic treatment without an explanation of the limits of the things they are doing. That doesn’t make them quacks but it an indicator for me.

I did not say it was intentional or even malicious, it's just what they were taught in school and as a result, the patient can suffer. Yes.

By ruling out all chiros as quacks and saying no one recieves real help from chiropractics, that is being narrow minded. Yes.

Good day.

You think that Acupuncture and Chiro are "snakeoil" practices? Think i've read enough to stop right there.

Yes, most doctors (GP's) are legalized drug dealers, and will offer you little more than 5 minutes of their time (IF you're lucky).
