Ditanium vaporizer

@MonkeyTime I thought about it when I purchased the Di but, didn't purchase it. I guess that will be my next purchase. There seemed like a reason I justified not purchasing it at that time. Do you have any other suggestions?

I have the black Di, it came with the glass screen and a black knob. I really haven't done a lot of flower vaping with it, because I have a WS log and the amount of flower the Di uses is considerable. I was asking the question about the S&B capsules to pack smaller amounts of flower for use in the whip/wand. We had some friends over and we used the dual function with them, but otherwise, it seems a bit much ( for us ). This has been my first experience with dabbing, I assume I am doing it correctly, because :ko:. I guess one nice thing is you aren't spending tons on accessories. :p

420VapeZone posted a video where he put a 14mm-female to 18mm-female adapter on the Ditanium and used a whip connected to a 18mm male joint.

Put a rimless basket screen in the 18 mm-male joint, put your flower in the basket screen, and you’re micro-dosing with the Ditanium.

Here’s the video:
just after the 12min mark.

Once the adapters from OGB arrive and I have some time to experiment, I’ll post about getting the S&B capsules to work.

Edit - looks like someone on reddit had a similar idea: https://www.reddit.com/r/vaporents/comments/ekzqk5/update_rbt_splinter_stem_for_sb_capsules/

i got my unit today and it has an audible high pitched hum to it that starts at 11 then gradually fades and goes away at 3. is that normal? lol

Got the glass pieces and a new whip, been testing for a few nights now.

The setup I initially described works with the S&B capsules (see here: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/ditanium-vaporizer.26785/page-16#post-1437220 ).

There’s definitely room for improvement, but as it is I think it’s a big upgrade.

I haven’t needed to stir at all. I think the capsules conduct some heat and distribute the airflow better (through the holes in the capsule). Cleaning is so much easier. The screens don’t get dirty; I barely ever have to brush this thing out.

There is room to improve the usability though. One improvement would be to make the capsules sit upright instead of sideways (align the air-path with gravity).

I have more glass pieces and a couple other parts on the way. Once those come in I’ll need to do some more testing. Might need to order more parts after that, hard to say.

When I’m satisfied with the system for the S&B capsules I’ll post a full write-up here with pictures. Or maybe shoot a quick video.

how are you guys even getting vapor at noon? i keep this thing at max temperature and my avb isn't even dark brown. i watched troy's video and i get nowhere near close that amount of clouds, and cigar puffs do nothing at all. i feel like i'm doing something very wrong, how am i supposed to pack and hit this thing? is there unit variance like with logs?

Hi everybody. I've lurked in FC for quite some time, decided to change that today because I wanted to show some love for this incredible vape. I've had it for a few weeks now, it has been fun and fairly easy to dial in my desired heat settings. I've been using the Ti and glass handles, they both have their place IMO. I use the whip, but most of the time I run it through a water pipe. It is so smooth, I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

I just wanted to say hello, and thanks for all of the discussion so far in this thread. It really helped me make my choice when shopping, and helped get me dialed in quick.

@godisatomato Hope you get things worked out with your unit. It will be worth the wait.

so just to get some closure and clear the company's name, i messaged the company directly with the comparison pictures and they said my unit looks fine. they gave me some great tips (Adam really is great, wow) and i think i'm starting to figure it out, so it turns out i was just dumb all along. i thought i had convection figured out after a year of smashing e-nano bowls one after the other but maybe not lol

This past weekend we broke the Ditanium down to clean it. This machine is a dream, talk about low

maintenance! It was relatively clean, there was a little staining on the quartz, which I just soaked ( ISO )

and washed clean.

I also clean the glass connecting piece, about once a week. In a container filled with ISO, I partially pull

( like syphon) back and forth until the screen and glass are clean. You really couldn't ask for a more simple

vaporizer. Oh, and it will lay you out.:2c:

On getting the S&B capsules to work with the Ditanium

I don't have a system I'm 100% happy with, so no video yet, but I thought I would share some updates and lessons learned.

Updates

Originally I was using this system:
  • Ditanium -> 14mm-female-to-18mm-male -> Capsule -> screen -> 18mm-female-to-whip-adapter

It worked but had room for improvement (see post here: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/ditanium-vaporizer.26785/page-17#post-1441194).

The system I'm using now looks like this:
  • Ditanium -> keck-clip -> 14mm-female-to 18mm-female -> keck-clip -> Capsule -> screen -> 18mm-male-to-whip-adapter

Currently, I'm waiting on a few more parts to arrive to experiment with, but it's definitely getting closer to a system I'm 100% happy with.

The parts I'm waiting on are:
  • different types of keck clips to experiment with
  • a different 18mm-male-to-whip adapter (mine is 90°, I want to try a straight one)
  • a different 14mm-female-to-18mm-female adapter (will hopefully bring the capsule closer to the heater)

Lessons learned

1. Keck clips are very useful.

One of the main frustrations of the original system was that the whip would frequently dislodge while in use. I could hold the glass up to the Ditainum while using it, but having one hand constatly occupied isn't very convenient. Using keck clips to keep everything together and attached to the Ditainum proved very useful. In my current system, the keck clip closest to the Ditainum always remains attached to the glass adapter and is loose enough to slide on to the Ditainum easily, but tight enough to keep the glass attached to the Ditanium while in use (it's metal). The whip can also rotate freely which is nice.

2. Glass adapters will break if you leave them on the Ditainum.

When I was using the female-to-male adapter (see: https://oregonglassblower.com/18-14mm-Glass-Reducer-Adapter-18m-14F-18-14red.htm) I had the idea to leave it attached to the Ditanium at all times to essentially make an 18mm Ditainum. Once I found metal keck clips, this seemed like an even better idea.

I was using the Ditainum this way for a few days and it seemed to work, until I noticed the adapter looked like it had a crack in it. I pulled it off and the glass adapter fell apart in my hands. Turns out, the keck clip was the only thing keeping it together; the adapter had shattered because titanium expands/contracts at a different rate than glass when heated/cooled.

3. Keeping the capsule close to the heater is very important

I tried to get the capsules to sit upright, but once I introduced a 90° adapter, the capsules were too far from the heater for effective vaporization.

Using Lessons Learned

These lessons are what led to switching from the more compact female-to-male adapter to the longer female-to-female adapter. While the female-to-female adapter does stick out more, the longer adapter has several benefits:
  • more room for keck clips (1 clip for the Ditainum, 1 clip for the whip)
  • 2nd keck clip is further from the heater (cool enough to touch immediately after use)
  • easier to remove after every hit, no handling hot parts (the end furthest from the heater remains cool enough to touch)
  • the capsule is the same distance from the heater as with the shorter female-to-male adapter

Good to know about the glass adapter, we have been removing it because we we uncertain if it would break. Now we know, it will. @thc_technologist , it sounds like you have been busy configuring everything so it's "just right". Good luck, I'm just doing some dabs on this baby. Pretty simple. I am amazed at how effective it is with pain relief. I am taking less gabapentin. Yay for me!

The adapter will likely be fine if you leave it on the Ditanium while the unit is at temperature.

In my case, it was the the thermal expansion/contraction from turning the Ditanium on/off (with the glass attached) that caused the glass to break. I verified this by sacrificing another glass adapter in the name of science.

Glad to hear you’re getting relief!

Vaporizer upkeep is the single issue that chased me away from my previous portable device (the Haze V3). Coming from that to the Ditanium...no comparison. It is so easy to clean. Maybe clean a screen every couple days. Currently cleaning the glass handle once a week. Haven't dabbed with the Di too much so no use in taking it apart yet, but it is very easy to do.

And yes, it continues to lay me out. :)

My original plan was to purchase a Volcano. I've always wanted one. I was so sick of the portable vape maintenance, and wanted to get a desktop model for home. Instead, I got a Ditanium AND a TinyMight for less. Less money and less cleaning. I can't recommend the Ditanium enough.

On getting the S&B capsules to work with the Ditanium - update

TL;DR - Scroll down to see pictures & parts list.

The Ditanium with S&B capsules is now my go-to desktop vape. I can turn the dial to 1:30, connect the whip, and get a full extraction in ~9 draws with no stirring or clean-up. For comparison, the same flower in the Mighty at 410°F also takes ~9 draws.

For a longer and more flavorful session with the capsules + Ditanium I start at 12:30 and incrementally increase the temperature throughout the session. Taste is amazing, I'd say better than the Evo because there's no heat applied to the herb unless you're drawing (the advantage of a horizontal air-path vs. vertical; even with no flowing air, heat rises in a vertical air-path).

Most of the parts I ordered have arrived. The remaining parts (different keck clips) are going to be delayed for a while though.

I’m going to wait for those to arrive before I make a video. Until then, here are some pictures and a parts list.

Already vaped flower (~2 on the dial):

Parts list (as of today):
If you don't count the whip (you can always use the one that comes with the Ditainum) cost is ~$40.

The screen system seen in the 3rd picture can be used with any 19mm male joint. For example, I tested it with the Evo and it worked nicely. I like the Ditanium better though, so I put the Evo back on the shelf after testing with it.

whatup, it's been almost a month and i've been seshing hard. i have a few questions:

- what are your workarounds for the knob? have you found a way to remember temperatures/add a dial/get a new knob without ruining the look of the vape? i'm sick of shooting for a random temperature everytime and i need ideas lol. @thc_technologist yours looks very cool!

- for those who use the glass wand: how often do you clean it and how do you clean it? the only way i've found to clean it without losing all the reclaim is dipping it in an iso jar. the problem is that i have to do it pretty much every single day if not multiple times a day, it seems that ~5-6 big bowls are enough to get it fairly clogged. and when i empty it i also clean the screen with a stir tool and blow into the mouthpiece of the whip

- do you leave the handpiece attached the entire time? i saw that it's not recommended in the instruction manual but it seems to hit better when i do. it's also more "hands free" imo

other than that, all i have to say is Oh My God. this thing just chucks quality vapor. best purchase i've ever made
