Very cool!

I was hoping it'd be universal with 20mm standard coils, since I already own two of them (one for flowerpot, another for a quartz banger)

Really cool with the solid quartz heat post tho, and I totally get the 16mm coil to fit with pre-existing modpod parts. I don't own any stempod or modpod stuff, but this would still be tempting since I've always dreamed of a quartz flowerpot...

Anyway, I'll be watching this thread close!

Is it aluminum?
It's a Stainless Steel housing. Basically the makeup of this unit is a XLR Enail controller, 16mm coil, quartz heater, Stempod Si stainless steel sleeve and the optional outer housing which again is stainless steel. It's important to note that you can use the vape without the outer shell but Dan tells me it performs better with it. I am interested to see as I have been using the Deskpod for a good while without it. This is likely to be the most expensive piece of the kit, especially at the quantities being ordered. But I have a production unit coming to me soon and from the pics it looks really nice. Assuming it does in fact improve the performance as well as the looks, it is something I anticipate most people picking up.

How would you compare it to the weedeater?
The reason I nave not bought a weedeater from you is I am waiting for this one.
However if the experience is different enough both are essential items I reckon.

Let me wait for the final production housing before I fully weigh in. But even with the lack of housing my prototype kicks out steam as heavy as the Weedeater. It's just the taste and subtle vapor quality difference I'd like to compare side by side. I expect the DeskPod to be quite the tank in the weight department. Outside of that they should operate similar and they use interchangable parts. As for needing them both, you are definitely talking to the wrong guy!

SSDan's explanation of the benefits of quartz lost me a little.

Is he suggesting that the heat of the air molecules moving through the weed is somehow different coming from quartz than the heat coming from metal?

I like a lot about modpodlabs but I'm getting snake oil vibes off this.

I thought that was interesting too.

I'll have to brave the terrible audio and have another listen, but he was saying something about how metal heaters typically heat the air in a way where the heat is retained after the herb chamber, ie. There's so much turbulence and heat exchange that the air continues to be hot beyond where it's needed to be.
Where as his quartz design was engineered to heat the herb in the chamber but not heat things beyond this.
Sounds like he is aiming for an efficient exchange that then allows for more direct hits with less cooling in the vapour path.
Interesting ideas.

Sublimator makes a point of passing condensing vapour through a hot bottleneck pinch point 'atomizer' to further gasify the oil stream.
They claim the smaller particles lead to faster absorption by the body.

Playing around with those kind of dynamics does change the signature of the hit, so it'll be interesting to see how this device performs and what signature it offers.
