How many of you all have experience with both the rectangle and the cylinder pre-presses?
I've ALWAYS used cylinder, but continue to battle blowouts with bottletech packing techniques (primarily making larger 10g pucks with 2.5x4.5 bags].
It appears that flatter rectangle presses do not tend to suffer blowouts as easily as bottletech blows out... What are your findings?
Does anyone on this thread prefer the rectangle, or has everyone gone to the bottles?

You can do directional folding with “brick” pucks, which looks cool and has some benefits, but the yield on the first press is usually noticeably better with bottle tech (for flower).
What brand bags are you using? Some brands are supposedly more prone to failure during bottle tech than others. I read some grumbling over the last month or two about the quality of the most recent batch of 2.5” bags from the press club; also, some name brand bags have stitching that just doesn’t like to be squished bottle style. I gambled and bought some 2.5” bags from press club, but have not squished since receiving them. I’ll happily report my findings later this weekend

So far, I have only used PressClub and DabPress.
I went ahead and got the brick/rectangle prepress, going to give it a shot... I'll bag it and see how it holds pressure.

The puck ends up being around 2x3.5" so I like to calculate PSI at the material based on 7 sq/in of surface area. 1000 PSI at the material needs 7000 lbs of force total. 7000 / 2.25 = 3111 PSI on the gauge, or to be more precise just a hair past 3000 =)
If you don't use bags, you will have to use more force since the puck will expand more.

I have only done one press, so cannot confirm if there is a notable difference in yield between bottle vs brick, but I can tell you the experience and process of using this mold is just a whole lot more hassle free.
The brick press comes with two liner plates, to sandwich around your material, your liners and the puck will come out of the mold and drop right into a bag. Then I used hemostats to pull the liner plates out of the bag, folded the end over and was ready to go. The 10g puck easily fit into the plates, which is sometimes a challenge with bottle tech on larger pucks. Ran the pressure all the way up and no hints of blowouts.
I used trim to get a feel for it, but look forward to exploring more with this rectangle mold and think it's capacity is larger than I pushed it. It would likely have no problem molding a 15g or 20g puck into a 2x4... I look forward to more tests.

Been lurking around here for some time now and getting curious to get into pressing rosin.
I've been thinking of getting a set of plates and have some qustions...
I have a 10 ton garage press at home.
Is there any pros and cons between caged vs. uncaged?
Will press for personal use only,, say up to like5 grams. will the 3x3 be sufficent for that?
Or would you recommend the 3x5 plates?

Hi there, 10-tons gives you a lot of power for pressing. 3x3" plates would suit your quantity easily within the surface area. 3x5" plates would give you room to grow and press up to an ounce at a time. Caged plates will keep the plates in perfect alignment which frees up your hands in case you need to make adjustments.
If you don't plan on pressing more than say half an ounce at a time, the 3x3" plates are a great choice. You can pair it with our dp-40r 40mm cylinder puck maker and 2.5" wide filter bags to create uniform pucks 7-14g and press it out with 3x3" platens using only about 3 tons of force max.

Well, it looks like i'll go the 3x3 route
as soon they are in stock in eu.One more qustion,,, i see that the 3x5 comes with screw to fasten from underneath, and the 3x3 does not come with this screw.
But,,,, is there a hole for this screw on the lower plate of the 3x3 kit? (I see that this screw is sold seperately).

Unfortunately we don't stock dp-rp33 (3x3" uncaged plates) except in the China factory warehouse due to overall demand for this product. We can ship it out to you from our China warehouse once they resume shipping. We haven't been given an ETA at this time due to coronavirus issues globally.
dp-rp33 also doesn't have the threaded hole to fasten the bottom platen onto your hydraulic press's worktable using our mounting kit. We do include a silicone mat which provides enough friction for the bottom platen to stay in place, just be careful not to knock it off onto the ground.

Ahh, that's to bad. Shipped fron China would add taxes and custom fee.
Guess i have to rethink, may consider the 3x5 uncaged when it's in stock, or maybe the 3x5 caged,,,, hmmm.
Unfortunately we don't do any backordering. If it's not in stock, we have to build it at the factory and ship it out to our warehouses. This is a several month process. Thanks for your patience!
Our problem has always been keeping up with demand around the China holidays usually, we predict what is needed before the holiday and build the orders and ship them out to the warehouses. We hope by the time the holiday is over and we are manufacturing again that we don't miss our inventory selling out. It just doesn't work that way, there are a lot of challenges, and frankly we lose a lot of business because we sell out too fast. Coronavirus made delays now even worse than ever.
Anyway, if the world can return to normal, maybe we can get back on track. Right now there are too many challenges to make any promises.

That's an untested unreleased press, once we get closer to production we'll release more info
Should be a little more, upwards of 2.25 ounces of material.

My 6 ton is 5 months old and today one of the heaters took a dump on me .
I have already messaged dabpress .
Any thoughts as to what I might be able to do ?
I cannot go days without a press.

I can't go without mine either! So glad Psycho introduced me to this lineup!
Switching from bottle tech to square pucks has also been a HUGE game changer for me. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get a blowout with the square pucks! I am doing 10+g per puck and able to be very efficient with time.
