Hahaha.. i ended up just ordering another MFLB coz it's way smaller and should hopefully slip through customs alright. :ko:

My Buddha nearly turned up today.... but UPS delivered it in the 10 minutes my housemate was out....

:(

And I paid extra for the next day delivery as well!
Ah well, waiting for your new vape is a perfectly valid reason to stay off from work isn't it?

My nearest UPS is an hours drive away! Wait, I guess that isn't a long way for Americans is it? :ko:

Anyway this vape is great! Very easy to use, nice fat rips and is just a very nice piece of kit! The bag is awesome too! Can't really see anything wrong with it at all. Maybe mine runs a bit hot, at about 9 o'clock it's ready to vape!

I'll have to hook it up to a bong soon :ninja:

If I'm not mistaking, you can pull the knob out and replace it with the dial at 'noon' if you want.

It might just be the speed of my inhale... I've been used to the MFLB and VG so maybe I just have really ninja breath control? I've only used it twice so far so I still need a bit of practise!

Roll on this evening! Somehow I think the Buddha won't be getting unplugged much :brow:

9Samurai,
My mum, dad, their friends, my friends, my cousin and now my brother have all tried it and massively approve! I've never known anything be so loved. I'm trying out the dome screen extra efficiency method that's been mentioned in this thread tonight and will report on the results.

No way we love to waste gas in our inefficient cars! It IS the American way you know. If you aren't wasting and burning tons of energy to do something, well then it's just not worth it.

@Dr. Boomstick, great stuff, man, what a cool family! have fun with the dbv and the mods (watch out for the dome getting stuck in the hc though).

LOL, I got home from work last night and turned the DBV to my sweet spot and wasn't getting vapor, had to turn it almost another 1/4 turn! Thought something was wrong till today when I remembered I had pulled off the knob over the weekend. Didn't get it back on it the right spot! Me of little faith...

Can anyone confirm that the alumina heating element in this vape is safe from leeching toxins or degrading and being inhaled? I brought the subject up with 7th floor and they were floundering for a legitimate response. I'm becoming very skeptical to be honest. Anyone have scientific proof that these ceramic heating elements from 7th floor are safe to use?

mod note: You've been here more than long enough to know the rules- If you have a question or comment regarding material safety, post it in General Discussion. Do not post it in a model thread.

pretty amazing so far. the highs are much better and last longer.

i am however having issues with finding that sweet spot on the temp dial. i start out by warming it full blast and after a minute or so ill turn it down to between the 1oclock and 2oc position. my results so far are great, but i cannot see at all how im saving herb. its seems almost the same as if i were burning it. maybe im running it too hot...? maybe im not using enough herb for it to properly be most effective...?

my normal home consumption took place through a small glass 1-hitter similar to this:
http://www.glass-pipes-water-bongs.com/foto/bigw/314-one-hitter---glass-simple-pure---3-in.jpg

i consumed between a .5 gram to 1 gram a day with this method for the last few years. basically the reason im telling you all this is because im hoping to conserve even more with my DBV. does anyone here put what would be considered "a 1-hit or two" amount in their wand for vaping? i find this amount to vape up very quickly.

thoughts?
My sweetspot is noon. After heating it @ noon for 3 minutes I load .2-.3g and hit it 5 or 6 or times, swirl the wand and hit it 3 or 4 more times. I then turn it up to 2 oclock and repeat. I get 10 - 12 hits and end up with chocolate brown ABV, depending on the herb. I believe it was Steiner who gave me the approach to stay at your sweetspot as long as you can. It increased my output. Good luck.
going to quote this as my first post. I just joined and am also apart of the Da Buddha Family. I have owned it for a little over a year and it is the only way I comsume MJ at home. I see all these post just like the one above and how you get all those hits and such. I pretty much do the same but I compress those hits into less hits but much bigger hits and it seems to really work out. Plus is take away alot of the learning curve for friends and such because all you need to tell them is the "hit the shit out of it!". I have learned over the course of owning it that draw speed is the answer to all your problems and which settings on the dial you should be using. I set my DBV full blast! and hit it as hard as I can. I still get the same slightly browned ABV like I did before but I get much bigger hits faster. I usually get only about 5 hits out of a bowl(that doesn't even register on my scale. So probably .08 at most.) and usually a bowl of that size will last me two sessions and I have been in the game for over 15 years! I have hooked it up to my bong before and I think I get equal to fatter hits this way. The only thing I have noticed is if you have friends hit it and they don't power hit the shit out of it like you told them. They will just blow through the whole bowl basically in one hit. Like I said earlier its all about the draw speed. Because I can put in little .005 and hit that a few times because I just crank it like I always do, but hit it like it was at noon on the dial. That why I don't have to pack my bowls so large and I am making the unit as efficient as possible. Just wanted to express my love for the Da Buddha and my particular method of using it.

i don't have any sophisticated measuring equipment and this is not a scientific test, just my observation on using my unit. when i pack about 1/4 of the normal bowl, i get about 10 hits. thing is, when i pack my arizer dome screen dbv wand, i use only about 30-40% of the 1/4 bowl and i also get 10 hits* (subjective, depends on person), good hits that really zones me out (and i use brick herb). less seems to be more, i don't know why (actually, i'm just happy with the result and couldn't be bothered). anyway, i haven't really used the normal dbv bowl ever since i got the dome screen attachment. the dome screen really ups the efficiency stakes for the dbv and allows me to use just a dash to get to me desired level. i tried using even less that this when i don't want to get too high, just buzzed.

yeah, like FLskwat and some others, we find that the dbv allows for easy mods that really ups the efficiency factor for the unit. i used to mix tobacco with mj for my joints last time to conserve but now i don't even think about reusing my avb or cleaning my wand to get the hash because i am using so little (plus, i prefer clean wands). these days, i only use the normal dbv bowl when i have friends around or when i mix 'the herb' with other herbs.

SUMMARY of the arizer dome screen mod (thank you to other mod users for contribution):
this mod for the dbv/ssv is not for everyone, some just prefer the normal style hits. of course, you can load your ssv/dbv normal bowl and take a bit, save the rest for later but it's just more fun finishing the bowl! So for those who wanna mod their dbv with the dome screen and encounter issues, please remember that there is a learning curve as well, just need some fine tuning.

issues:

1. Much easier to combust as the herb is closer to the heater - if you use normal temp like a normal wand, it will turn black/combust real fast as it is now much closer to the heater. please try vaping at lower temps. i vape using the dome screen at minimum temp, just above the opening 'click' of my dbv. you may want to slightly increase temp after a few hits.

2. The Dome screen can easily become stuck in the end of the female GG connection. Fixing this is a pain. -

for the dbv: yes, you have to use it hands free + lightly, don't push the wand in too tight (no hands free, no forcing into the hc). And the steel mesh is somewhat 'flexible' so the dome screen gets looser after a few times of inserting/removing from the wand and easier for it to get stuck in the hc. Just 'tighten' it when it is in the wand by pressing the inside of the steel mesh of the dome screen 'outwards'. this clamps the screen tighter to the wand, and will minimise chances of it getting stuck in the hc. even then, sometimes when i am high i forget and jam the damn thing up the hc!

for the ssv, pre shape the dome screen to fit the wand firmly, and only do this on standard wand! according to FLskwat, the dome screen fits even better with the SSV (edge to edge with the wand, no "separation") than the dbv (though it still works good with the dbv). Check posts #1442 to #1446 for the ssv (picture there):
http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?id=3&p=58

3. packing the bowl and stirring - pack enough to cover the screen, not too much and because you are using so little herb you can pack it tight like a pancake! So, no worries about herb spilling (or even if you don't fill the whole of the screen because it is so close to the heater). and i stir once every 4 hits. so with about 8-9 hits* i stir maybe once/twice every session. stir slowly n carefully cause 1-2 pieces of herb falling out could mean 10-20% less of dome bowl load.

note that Flskwat commented somewhere "don't pack the dome screen too tight or too full, and as always with the ssv, inhale fast/hard while constantly moving the wand". no need to pack full, less is more in this case! i got no issue with the packing tight though, please try either way.

4. good for sharing between 2 people? not really, in my opinion the dome screen mod is best used solo. comparatively, 1 normal load is maybe about 3-4 dome screen loads.

5. pricing - i have seen it sold for between usd5-9 for 2 dome screens. the screen quality is good so it will last quite awhile. http://www.vaporizerkits.com/products/Arizer-Mesh-Screen-Pack.html

here are some pics where i load about 20-25% of the arizer dome on my dbv and i think you can get about 8-10 hits* depending on how a person pulls. my unit turns on at about 7.40 so i just leave it at about 8-8.30 for the whole session. pack the herb tight like a pancake and depending on preference, stir every hit or my choice now is to stir every 3-4 hits. experiment and try for yourself.

* after using the dbv for some months now, my preferred hits are much longer so i average maybe 4-6 hits instead. note that the number of hits is very subjective and depends on the breathe & hitting technique of the individual.

Oh! So thats a dome screen. lol. Its pretty much the same concept I use but I just use the regular screen placement and crank the shit out of it and then draw very slowly. cool

They were floundering, because you likely spoke with an office person who knew nothing about so technical a topic.
The Ceramic heating element used by 7th floor is reputed to be among the safest known, with the greatest longevity also. They are Metal inside of ceramic...both are inert.
Why not send them an email or write to them. It will surely filter to the right person, and you will get the specs you need to reassure you.

So they put it off on the manufacturer of the heating element who happens to be a company from over seas. Japanese I believe? I still got no deffinite answer. I tried finding a contact form for ....., no luck yet. But really who calls it an alumina heating element then doubles around and says its actually not made of alumina? Seems sketchy

The heating element does contain alumina (aluminum oxide that is essentially inert) that is part of the ceramic production process, and ceramics are inert. Our receptionist just gave you slightly incorrect information. It is completely safe and extremely long lasting(we have models that have run continuously for over 8 years and still perform perfectly. Alumina itself vaporizes @ over 4000 degrees F, so there is no risk of it off-gassing, leaching, or degrading. Every single one of our customers can attest to this.

If you have any other questions feel free to email me chris@7thfloor.biz.

Many vaporizers just use nichrome as the heating element... just bare nichrome. That is why we use a heating element that is completely and 100% encapsulated in ceramics. Again, I will mention that ceramics are inert. This type of element is used in personal size coffee mug heaters, and a huge variety of other uses. The element in that use is submerged in liquid. That is okay due to it being inert.
Ceramics, when made properly, are safe. And truth be told...there are lower quality ceramic heating elements out there. We just don't use them...we only use the finest in the entire industry.

budballer said:
Where do all these harsh feelings for alumina come from if they aren't true?

They come from people not understanding the nature of all things inert. They are also derived from a lack of understanding about the nature and qualities of ceramics. Its a notion that is created purely out of fear. There is absolutely no evidence to support the hypotheticals you suggested. If your research has produced any information to the contrary, please supply it. I will gladly admit if I am wrong.

budballer said:
Whose to say that the constant air flow over top isn't removing tiny particles of alumina that are being inhaled?

Who is to say that it even is happening? Now we are dealing in the hypothetical. Do you have any evidence that this has occured? Again, research into the properties and qualities of ceramics will show you that this just isn't going to happen. There is no evidence(real-world or scientifically) that this could, or even has happened.

budballer said:
Not enough to notice a difference in the shape of the heating element but enough to give someone cancer 20 years down the line.

Again, see Inert. That is why this heating element is used in a variety of human applications. And again, there is no scientific reason to think that air moving slowly over one of the most durable materials on earth would cause any change or degradation to it. Its far more durable than the glass that surrounds it in our product.

Sean, our product is meant to help people rid themselves of the harmful chemicals in tobacco, and eliminate the destructive harm caused to your lungs due to combustion. Its intended to help people lead healthier, happier lives. We did our research...and it was far more extensive than those that are using hypothetical that are not based on science or even real world data. I implore you to do more research on your own behalf and educate yourself about the materials you are unsure of. The information is out there. You are right to be concerned...we all should be so concerned with our own health, and I applaud your personal efforts.
