Yea, that looks like a nice, frosty hit! I gotta tell ya, the BW gives amazing hits anyway, so chilled hits must really rock. Not sure I would try it, though, hehe. Something about the way the BW hits makes it way more stoney than my other glass. I guess it's the low volume and the smoothness of the hit. I don't feel like I am hitting big, until I blow it out. Whatba nice piece of glass for sure!

Frosty hits look amazing, Stu. But I would definitely be careful doing that. I'm sure your beer fridge isn't freezing but I had some stupid friends put a RooR in their freezer only to find it broken several hours later. I think they left it in way to long with water in the chamber too.

I've recently been chilling my BW inline in my beer fridge for frosty vape hits. The water gets chilled, and the glass gets frosty (reminds me of drinking a beer from a chilled pint glass). The hits are unbelieveably smooth and really refreshingly cool.

I have 2 questions:

1) Does anyone else do this?

2) How dangerous is this for my piece?

Does the change of temperature stress the glass to the point that it could crack? I don't leave it in the fridge long enough to possible freeze the water (although it could happen if left in overnight.... not an unreal possibility for a vapehead like me). The longest I've left it in the fridge was about an hour or so and the current temp in there is 32 F.

I really enjoy these frosty hits, but if I'm taking too big of a risk with such expensive glass, then I may re-think doing this.

I would advise against it, really cold glass is prone to thermal shock... how about just adding ice?

oh 2clicker one more thing, i've been reading a lot about these ceramic heating elements. Apparently they're all made of aluminum oxide. Doesnt it scare you that you might be inhaling small radical ions? or off gassing from the top and bottom of the element from where the hardware is inside? I'm considering creating it still... bt i'll cover the ceramic in some thin copper tube from lowes and pinch off one end. sound do-able? will i have enough space if i used either the ssv or da buddha cover?

these are the same ceramic heaters that 7th Floor , Volcano, and other vape MFGs are using. the ceramic should not be producing any harmful elements at the temps we are using to vape. i mean really ANY substance you put into your lungs other than pure oxygen is "bad", but we still do it. even the vapor that we are all after is "bad", just not anywhere near as bad as smoke. you do not need to worry about the ceramic elements. the elements that Hakko uses is the quality stuff. you may want to steer clear of any Chinese ceramic elements though.

as for the copper... i would not suggest putting any copper on your heater or in the air path in any way. stainless steel is the only metal i would be adding to a vape. SS will not produce anything harmful at our temps, but i cannot say about copper.

if you follow my recipe you are essentially making an LSV, SSV, or DBV, but even smaller and more versatile than any of them. including the LSV. i still cant believe that they made those LSVs the way they did. a 90deg connection is much more ergonomic IMO.

they will work the same, but building the dimmer/box will be cheaper and just as effective.

however those mini phasers may look nicer and be a little smaller.

id still say to go with the adjustable hakko. that way its all in one. you wont have to lug around multiple pieces to get the job done. just better all around really. if its not meant to be portable then the other route is good too, but they arent gonna be that much cheaper so id say just get the adjustable.

looks like the price has gone up about 15 bux though.

hakko = $75
DBV hc = $20
high temp silicone = $10

so for around $120 (after tax) you can build your own portable, highly efficient, and extremely versatile vape... that is as good if not better than anything else on the market.

ive been waiting on that 556SE replacement as well! haha... but they told me that they would be available by now and they arent. maybe something is holding the release up i dont know. they did say it would be a more "robust" version. so im thinking its going to be like the 456s only adjustable... which would be awesome. until then my 556SE is killing it on a daily basis. and i know what you mean about the price, but in the big picture its still much cheaper than buying a quality MFG'd vape so that extra 35 bones isnt hurting too bad IMO.

ive been considering copping one of these as well, but havent gotten around to it. at $40 it may be an option for you.

would love to see someone else get one of these and see what can be done, but ill prolly end up getting one here soon...

i also wanted to add that we sometimes use a suction vice to hold the hakko in place to be used with a whip. a vice like this:

i dont have a pic of any hakkos in one, but you get the idea. you can get them online for around 20 bux.

Thanks, I think that tube works better with my PD then any other glass I have, but now I have been using it with my new Supreme as you can see, which I am really enjoying, still refining my technique for this one I have also passed on my share of glass as well

Great video. what is the bowl piece you are using with the SGW bubbler, it looks like a 45 degree adapter converted into a bowl?
A piece like that would work perfect on my mini bubb.

Hey 2clicker I found some 75 watt stainless steel cartridge heaters. They run on 120vac. They're rohs compliant too! Could I go outlet> light dimmer> cartridge heater? In that order and just put a class heating cover on it, will it work?

ummm... i cant really say to be honest, but id love to see some experimentation

if you can get the heater up to the right temp and it will hold temp decently then i suppose it would work. im no engineer though.

keep at it and make sure to post pics!

You called it! I took Pappy's advice about 45 degree angled joints. Although the MW isn't heavy, the 45 degree joint makes it WAAY easier to take the vape and bowl off at the same time to clear without touching either. It's a necessity to use when I have friends use the MW because the body of it get so hot!

Just a quick note about my impressions upon opening my package from ALT a couple days ago...

Oh boy, what a nice piece of glass this is!! In fact, it looks and feels better than I expected. The glass is THICK. The workmanship is flawless, I could not detect any visual imperfections whatsoever. It measures 9,75 inches high. All the artwork is made of ground glass (not printed) and discrete.

The extra glass tube connector I ordered to be able to use it with my vaporizers is also perfect. I tried it with my NO2 and with my DaBuddha tubes, which have a complete different diameter, and yet both fits perfectly because the adapter can accommodate more than one size (it starts small and then bulge to a bigger diameter).

Again, my wife being a non-user is always a good judge, and she loves it! She says it looks like a chemical laboratory equipment and she enjoys looking at it when I use it. She was impressed when she saw it the first time.

The 14" RYOT case is AWESOME. It looks like a miniature guitar case hehe The material on the outside looks and feels very durable. My glass tube fits PERFECTLY in it, like it was custom made for it.

I am very, very satisfied with this purchase. My only concern would be ALT writing "Gift" with a value of "200$" on the commercial invoice for customs... I basically paid import tax tarif on top of tax and shipping... They should have filled-out the form properly and I would have paid less tax. Now I have to claim that to the ASFC...

So, my son wanted to buy a glass piece. He's not good with glass and has broken a lot of cheap bongs. This time he wanted a "nice" piece and was prepared to spend $200. I decided I needed to help him out. I didn't want to see him spend $200 on crap, or on something he would end up breaking easily.

I looked on ALT, and around town at several shops. I stumbled upon RX Industries and really liked their scientific section. They have a section for their own glass and there was a 14 inch tube and a beaker for only $80. Here is part of the description:

"These tubes are made privately for us by one of the nations biggest tube manufacturers and are extremely high quality glass. 100% American made Tube, Bowl and USA made Hand punched Diffusor Stem (No Slits!) 18.8-14.4mm Bushing and 14.4mm Bowl piece."

So, I ordered it on Thursday afternoon and paid $10 for shipping. It actually arrived from California on Saturday! It is a beautiful, thick glass tube that is just perfect. I could not believe how nice it was for $80! I highly recommend this tube, and I'll probably pick up the beaker at some point. It really is nice! Here are a couple of pics. I will review it more in depth on OSC.

Looks like a very solid straight tube and downstem. That style of 'punctured diffuser' is surely an upgrade from simple slitted downstems IMO as well (depends on what you're after in a hit though obviously). Definitely another resource to pass onto new users here and elsewhere seeking a simple tube.

Yea, they carry a few nice items, and seemed to be reasonably priced. I'll tell you though, that tube is very high quality- and only $80
