LOL

Here's my most recent "fail of the week" - few days ago I had a relatively successful print of the Crafty Mouthpiece WPA molds. Vapor polished them, and cast the first SonG.

Pulled it out and thought to myself "hmm... that looks pretty big to me...." Then grabbed a mouthpiece:
qV6An0d.jpg

:o:lol:

Long story short, when I designed the part, I assigned a variable to the RADIUS of the mouthpiece, and then measured the diameter instead! :bang:

Simple update to the code and recompiled it using the proper parameters this time. Hopefully this is a better fit!

Ratchett,
no use "crying over a spilled plate of Pi--- times diameter" to paraphrase an old saying

At least you can easily change, unlike if you were hand carving the molds lol

Lol, indeed.

Last night I went into the city with my wife and her friends for a food frenzy (Brazilian steakhouse - meat heaven). I fired up the printer before I left and started a simple 5 hour print making the revised MiniVAP SonG molds. Everything started smoothly, hell I've had hours of printing so far with this printer and no real major issues!

This morning I come home to find this:
PAFaJ9x.jpg

First thought was, great.... failed print. Then I thought "wait, why is there a loose motor on the right side and a disconnected wire???" :o

Looks like the motor mount for the Y-axis broke loose mid-print! Luckily the X axis continued to work and it seems the timing belts survived. Better yet, the manufacturer included a spare motor mount! I was up and running again within 30 minutes!

Here's a closeup of the failed print -

Rz4L1sv.jpg

As best I can tell, the part was literally printing perfectly, when suddenly at about 65% complete, the printer had an issue with one side of the motor mount - causing the printer to 'skip' a few steps on the y-axis - creating the rounded bit. Slowly working it's way loose until it finally broke off (where you see the black burnt/melted bits).

Massive print failure, but luckily nothing was damaged in the process, aside from some wasted plastic!

24 hours after the failure, the printer is back up and running, and nearly finished printing the part which failed.

Now it's time to call the manufacturer and order some spare parts for next time!

Few crazy "bot statistics" I discovered in the firmware today:
Print Odometer - 2226.34 meters of filament extruded (7300feet!), and 440 hours of print time!

Crafty and Mighty mouthpiece waterpipe adapters are also on the way, I'll be printing the next prototype molds later tonight

Sign me up for an 18mm SonG adapter for the Mighty literally as soon as you have made them @Ratchett

Casting the final 18mm Crafty SonG's as I type (Just filled the mold literally 10 minutes ago)

Vapor polishing the 14mm Crafty SonG's and what I hope is the Final MinVap 18mm SonG right now (mmm nothing like the smell of boiling acetone in the afternoon!)

Working on a LOT of exciting stuff right now, going to list new stuff on the Etsy Store in the near future. Thank you everyone for making this into a reality. I promise 2015 will yield even MORE cool vaporizer accessories!

Aloha @Ratchett,

Sorry if I missed the update but is the SonG for the Mighty/Crafty available?

Also, I was able to get a great deal on a Pelican 1400 in which I utilized for the FC-187 and accessories. Are you able to create stoppers for it that sit as flush as possible? It would be great for those instances where I would need to pack up real quick. It's a pretty tight fit especially the bowl area:

Here's a picture of Ratchett's plug "family" --small, medium, and large.
the small in the mouthpiece is almost recessed.
the small in the 14 mm adapter sticks out a little.

PBW.jpg

It seems like you are talking about packing in a hurry--meaning putting in plugs and packing in the case, still with water inside??
Completely full of water, like in the pic, I would not trust it on it's side. Lots of water pressure.

Depending how much water you use, it might be ok but I would test at home--just laying on side with plugs in. They aren't really meant to be totally secure for travel, water piece on its side, bounced around in car, etc.

I would only do it if I was ok that they might come loose and "might leak" . \
Could you live with a water spill???

Thank you for the info. Yeah, that is exactly what I was inquiring about, keeping the water inside. I usually fill mine a little above the perc. Didn't really think too much about it and assumed they would hold.

I'm sure they will hold a good seal, expecially with my water level, but I don't think I would chance a spill...

Greetings!

The Crafty/Mighty SonG adapters are finished, and in fact I am casting several today. I am fulfilling several orders for prototypes first before publishing them on my Etsy store. I will make an announcement on both the Crafty and Mighty threads once I've got a final store URL to publish

@MinnBobber mentioned they might not work perfectly to prevent a leak (especially if not installed properly). I have found the glossy finish of my newer plugs stick well to glass if you install them onto dry surface - using a paper towel before installing the plugs would be a necessity. My Medium sized plugs fit both the mouthpiece and Female fittings on the FC-187, but they will stick out a bit.

You could trim both adapters for a perfect flush fit - but removal might be an issue...

Stay tuned for some product announcements this week - The Crafty/Mighty SonG and the MiniVAP SonG's will be officially released

Awesome, I will be glued to this Forum, well continued to be glued...

Also, thank you for the info on the plugs...getting them out was something I figure would be a factor. Maybe I could stick something in the middle to help remove. I won't be needing them for the emergency pack away instance too often but more for cleaning and storing.

But regardless, I see 2 medium-sized glossy stoppers and a 18mm SonG in my future:)

Yes , with the plugs you could screw in a tiny eye bolt with loop sticking out or drill in a pilot hole and then screw in a screw to remove etc. something would work
They are very soft and pliable

I might suggest also that if you're going to have a corkscrew thingy at work that it be attached to an anchor type cap on the opposite outside end so that it doesn't eventually pull out of the plug.:2c::2c::peace:

In reality, I think the only major problem is the 18mm female plug side, the mouthpiece on the FC-187 is flared. I believe you could trim my medium tapered plug flush with the mouthpiece and still use fingers to pull it loose.

Regarding the 18mm female size, I *could* design a simple plastic bit which could be installed into the mold prior to casting - the plastic bit would have an anchor which would become one with the adapter leaving some sort of nub exposed for grip.....

@redijedi808 - PM me if you are interested in this project. It's possible, but around 15 hours of work spread over 4 days to make it a reality

Would you be able to print something for a nector collector/pnwt/arizer solo stand?(stretching the design possibilities there but if possible to also charge the solo with this station that would be huge) Just something to hold it upright really, I have seen other members throw together misc materials around their house for one, but a nice printed one would be preferred, even if it doesn't look like the original at all, just something that could support the piece nicely. I find all of the dhgate clones don't include a stand which I consider very important for a NC/Hydratube/PNWT etc. I like the look of the ascent stand, but something similar that could support a nc/hydratube as well as possibly a hole in the bottom to allow for charging a solo if the width allows. Could be a hybrid kind of stand that I personally could see a lot of use for among members, a lot of people bought the PNWT knockoff and have no real way of safekeeping it afaik. The stands you've produced so far have been looking great though, so it doesn't have to look anything like the pic of the NC stand below. Lemme know what kind of software you use to sketch up designs as I do have some free time and could sketch a couple up.
edit: and for using a glass stand/base for the glass pieces, I find they are far too tippy for this sort of piece

I have actually been designing a sweet 14mm stand to hold my PNWT knockoff, though 3D printing is a bit of a tricky subject right now - I'm concerned about the stability of my prints for holding larger heavier objects like glass! I haven't actually had time to print the 14mm PNWT stand yet (too busy with orders!), but I'm still not sure how safely it will hold the piece - I'll post pictures when I have some.

That said, I am looking into the idea of buying a CNC machine this year to start making stands with heavy bases out of wood to hold larger objects including HT's and WT's. (Dammit, I need a bigger house! My workshop is getting too big for the basement)

@Ratchett - was just browsing your Etsy store and saw the vape stands. I bet you could make something that would stand up Mighty, safely, on a counter top. I bet I could seal mine in a plastic bag and take a mold of it and send it to you. What do you think?

That's an interesting idea, though I really don't know how well it would work - I could probably make a simple stand to hold the unit upright, but a charging dock would be out of the question unless I had access to both the unit and the charging cable.

I've got a busy month ahead of me, and someone may be sending me a Haze vape in a few weeks to work on a charging dock for that, so I don't know when I'd be able to get started on it. PM me and we'll discuss further

You guys are keeping me so busy, I almost need to buy a second 3D printer to keep up with printing new designs while making orders! Right now my printer is busy at home making an Ascent charging dock while I'm at work so I can use the printer later tonight (each dock is an 11 hour print!)

Also note, I have an Indica charging dock almost finished - still working on the cable channel to properly guide the wire out the back of the dock. But that should be available once I have some time to print my next prototype and confirm everything fits properly!

Ratchett miniVAP Song has landed:

mVsongDelrintop.jpg

Black silicone.
Fits nicely on the cover, with flexicone module inserted under cover.
I did picture with whip to show the versatility which I like---like pieces to be
able to be used different ways.
-- You could take direct hits via the Song.
-- You could start with whip, say for low temps.
-- Remove whip and invert miniVAP and insert 14 mm Song into bubbler.

An 18 mm miniVAP Song is also available.

Just received so more tests will follow.

edit: so i spent almost 90 minutes giving test results and adding pictures. Then , while on last sentence---the whole flocking edit disappeared.
I'm pissed and done for today.

Will try to re-do tomorrow.
Overall rating was 6 of 7 cannabis leaves.
Also see miniVAP thread for pics and comparison to a similar piece made from Delrin and stainless steel but that piece is not really in production.

Hello all!

I'm sorry to report Etsy has learned that I am selling vaporizer related accessories and has suspended my selling account!

I apologize for the inconvenience. However, this was just the push I needed to take over hosting my own store platform. I will be working HARD on launching this store ASAP. However if you want to purchase anything I have listed on my Etsy store, please PM me directly.

Excellent stuff man, sucks that Etsy did this to you, but you know FC will be supporting you here and your own site/hosting is the ideal setup for what I'm sure will be a growing venture (pun intended) :D

Thanks dude! I made MAJOR progress today...... I've still got a lot of stuff to do, but getting the store back up and running is top priority. Once I have the new store open, I'll get back to work on finishing several new products I've been designing in my spare time. I've got a new tapered plug size and a charging dock for the indica nearly complete

In other news, I've got something REALLY big to announce in the near future (early next month). It was an idea I'd considered for the past few months, but wasn't worth pursuing until I had my own store platform. Etsy's actions simply acted as a catalyst for everything I'm about to do. :worms::evil:

Hopefully this venture will provide the perfect excuse I need to quit my day job in the near future! After 10 years, I'm starting to lose faith at my work (I've been waiting for that business to take off - sadly the owner is holding back the company more than he realizes - he's a sales man by nature, not a manager).

Believe me, I'll need a bigger shop soon enough! My wife is about to KILL me - sounds like we've got a robot locked up in the basement 24x7 these days - "bbbrrrrRRRrrruuuuuuuppp bbbbzzzzzzz bee beee beee BbZZZzzzzZZZzz" all fucking day long as 4 servo motors hum away - we can hear it nearly everywhere in the house. I can't WAIT until I can afford an SLA or SLS 3D printer! None the less, I'm loving this opportunity
