Hmm I never bothered with mine, I mean when I first got them I tried and it didn't seem to want to move, it seems to fall wherever the gravity would take it, never felt like an issue to me... Since it is the entire heating sphere that matters most?

Lately I also have been doing some whole nugs, when I take out some fresh grind, I save a little nug to pop in fresh, I'll take one hit and then dump it out break it up reload, repeat once more until it is fully ground again like my usual... Fun stuff!

I thought that was the case at first. But I can concur with you 100% that it seems irrelevant.

@Shit Snacks After a poke with a stir tool it hangs freely and sort of bobs like it's on a spring and I can't even see what 'adjustment' one would or could make.

The part that has the wire wrapped around it was waaay off center, stuck. I poked it with a wooden stir tool... scared the bejeezus outta me, it made a popping sound and literally popped into 'position' just dangling in the middle.

Somehow during transport - most likely while customs had a jolly round of football with my box - the heating element got jammed.

To your comment regarding the whole ball getting hot: yes and no. My heater ball WAS crazy-ass hot. I burnt my arm bad on it. It was too hot to make even momentary contact. It's not nearly as hot now. Same voltage settings. So, I think the sphere does overheat if the element is out of alignment.

Not unrelated, I combusted a bunch before the adjustment. Maybe once since.

Ok i ordered one! :D the forest green one! :)

quick question though. if you could get the vapbong with no carb would you do it? after owning one for as long as some of you have do you still think it's worth plugging? I am thinking so, but wanted to get your opinion on it before i paid the extra.

Gonna have to try this whole nugs thing. I haven't done so because it just doesn't make sense to me. Why would lesser surface be better for extraction? Why would I want trichomes sticking on my finger when I break them? Why would I want the trouble and/or the mess?

But so many are having good results that I have to try it for myself lol

I'm such a doofus! Lol

i watched his video and where he judges the quality of weed by the number of rips from 3 second hauls. (as long as the lung pulls are the same every time...)

I got thinking about that. all of my fave vapes can pooch the weed in as few rips as possible. this is why the sticky brick, and for the last few years the flowerpot, have been my go to vapes. i wouldn't want to extend the number of hauls i get up to 25 times. by then i bet it's dead boring and not like what it was on rips, 1, 2 and 3.

I am a flavor chaser and I don't mind the waste from giant tasty rips.

I am hoping this was still a good purchase for me. either way it sounds like i'll have no trouble selling it if that's the case. i bet i will dig it though. I am having fun reading about it here.

Yes, that is why I got another bandit coming, primarily justified it because it's not going to have the carb hole. And if I get another standard vapbong I would also prefer and not have the carb if possible... So yeah I say it worth paying the extra, personally, because I always remove the ball bowl to clear a hit. that made the carb hole nothing but an inconvenience for me.

I think you will be happy, that is kind of how I use mine, flavor chasing not necessarily milking it, so you can kill a bowl and three to four hits, thick flavorful hits!

Some of the woodland fantasy photos on the site lately have looked more forest green, mine is a little more brown moss, with clear green melted spots, it is pretty cool and unique!

@weedemon you'll love it tor quick extraction and flavor.

I'm not a flavor and / or cloud chaser. I just want full extraction. I enjoy getting the full spectrum of the cannabis from the early terpy hits to the roasty toasty baked bread hits. I don't think that's your style.

I think your style is fast and hard. Right? The VB is capable of sucking everything out of the bowl with 2-4 deep, heavy, full, long draws. The trick is loading it right. For that, I'd grind it and go no more that 0.25gr. Hit it hard at a good high temp but not too high, maybe low 10's. Do a quick stir and go right back to it while the herb is still warm. You can completely destroy the bowl in under 2 minutes.

Re carb holes. Mine is 100% plugged. 100% of the time. Would have preferred not to have one. As @Shit Snacks said, you remove the ball to clear the hit. So, the carb is redundant at best. A mild nuisance at worst.

@Vapefanatic I agree. Sounds wrong to go whole nugs. We want as much surface area as possible, right? Think of coffee. How much flavor would you get from brewing whole beans? But, it works with cannabis. At least for me. If nothing else, it's a chance to get more stems removed.

The Dude
Just some observations from a fellow newbie:

This thing shines with big loads. I come from the world of Dynavap where the average load size is around 0.07 - 0.10. My primary reason for getting my VB was for larger dosage opportunities. I wanted to go from many 'doses' to just a few 'sessions'. Mission accomplished!

The key for me to get perfect extraction is two things: (1) hand pulled nugs (2) at least 0.30gr of material.

This was 0.68gr and a good example of the size of the load nugs. My average is around 0.50gr. The ball will hold about 1.25gr of hand shredded / 2.0+ of ground. The difference between hand pulled nugs and ground herb is remarkable. Totally changes the vapor flavor / production and overall VB performance.

I initially struggled with combusting a lot of loads or at least uneven toasting and hot spots. No matter how big or small the load, stirring or not, fast / slow draw - if I wanted more than light tan extaction I could not get it without scorching. Damn.

I was (and still am) assuming user error. I wish use a whip and go dry 100% of the time. I know I'm using it 'wrong' as in 'not as designed'. So, I wanted to find a technique that would morph my style with its design. The key is those 2 things: nugs and big loads.

I set it at 10.3 and can NOT combust. The whole nugs break down different than ground cannabis. The toasting process of the convection heat marries perfectly with nugs. This beast was born to convert nugs to vapor.

You owe it to yourself to try nice fat bowl of nugs That bowl in the pic above lasted forever. Just breathing thick vapor that never lost flavor until it just eventually gave up the ghost and stopped making vapor. Good to the last drop!
That is a beautiful whip you have, mind letting me know how you connected it and where you purchased? Would love something like that for when I eventually get one

Makes sense, if the element was touching the side it would be transferring heat thru conduction instead of just radiation, which would get the ball way hotter.

So I checked the heater coil this morning and it did seem to be touching the side of the ball. I poked it a bit and it seems to be at this position in the photo now. Is this still way off?

I have two Vapbong's. My "old" one Orientel Camel - the heater coils are in perfect centered position. My newer Vapbong is the "Obsidian" and the heater coil looks exactly like the one you posted even more off center. They both work great - I don't think it makes any difference if they're not 100 % centered.

I've added a pic @jbm

I know I said being off center is okay but this is a little too much imo. Glad it works fine though.

Nice one! No do not keep the ball bowl on, only while you are hitting it, remove it to clear the hit... The ball bowl does not need to be warm or cold, the heater sphere should be warm though!

The reason you see a lot of videos that keep it on, is because most of those models have the carb hole to clear hits instead (even with that I would prefer to remove the ball bowl to clear so no residual vapor can get in the heater sphere)

:uhoh::uhoh:

I've been leaving my bowl ball on, empty, most of the time. Like right now I'm at work and my OAB is at home plugged in, sitting at 11.2, empty bowl, but bowl in place. Actually, I never take it off, unless its to clear my hit or load/unload and it's been plugged in basically since I got it. I've even left it on there full of fresh greenies for a couple hours and just walked into the room taken a hit and its been totally fine.

The bowl ball definitely gets hot. Not nearly as hot as the heater ball, but borderline uncomfortably hot in some places where it meets the heater, but still I have no problem holding it in one hand and scooping herb with the other. Idk, I figure the best heat soak is a full heat soak? For the most consistent experience I would think anyway.

My only concern is for the time being I have it sitting on top of a covered radiator, a little worried the heat is creating excess humidity and traveling up into the heater sphere.

Is there something "wrong" about leaving the OAB plugged in constantly like my log vape? Or anything to worry about from leaving the bowl on, other than it being hot to the touch? ? Even with the fresh green left in there for an hour or so, it didnt seem to discolor or effect the first pull what so ever.

I always remove the ball to clear a hit, but once I'm done clearing it / recovering from the hit, I usually stir and put it back where it goes so it's ready for the next hit. Or just continue to hit it until shes tapped out and discard the AVB and put the ball back in place.

I love to see more people converting to hand torn baby nugs.

Haha I gave this a try over the weekend... two full bowls back to back like that. Epic. Broke an already small nug into little tic tac sized pieces and let her eat. crushed them up a little bit in between hits and seemed to just release more and more vapor. Not sure it's something I'd do EVERY time, but definitely if I'm looking to chill for a bit and enjoy the session.

Something about tossing a quick couple pre-ground scoops into the ball and going for a big rip just does it for me.

When I first noticed it did bother me and I was a bit worried but after a few weeks with it, I can safely say it works just fine. Compared to my almost 1-year-old VB, the airflow is even better, and I have even less draw resistence. Not sure if it would work even better if the heater was centered @AoV Daniel ? Maybe you can give some Input :)

Re centering the heater: I don't think it has to be dead center. Just make sure it's free and moving and not making hard contact. As @Drinkaholik pointed out, that's what most likely caused an actual problem with mine. I suppose the lesson is: don't fix it if it ain't broke.

Thank you. Purchased from Amazon. Search for "Budpro hookak" it was $15 (I think). I wrapped the hose and handle with paracord.

Connector: The Amazon hose comes with a small mouthpiece with a barbed end. The mouthpiece was only a few millimeters smaller than the circumference of the opening. I wrapped it in a strip of silicone hose from an old whip. Makes airtight, sanitized seal.

Here's a pic of the finished product. If it's not making sense tell me, I can post more pics to explain better.

I poked it a bit with a dab tool but it really hasn't moved significantly. I did open a ticket with AoV, but the ticketing system doesn't allow attachments so I'm waiting to hear back from them.

Edit: Also hearing a slight scraping noise in the ball when I move the wire coming out of the side, so I hope I haven't broken the damn thing.

Surprised you were leaving it on at that voltage away from the house! But also surprised you have been leaving the bowl on, one thing to mention, your ball bowl is larger than the standard ones... Yours is that nug shaped one, so it has extra surface area beyond the sphere, perhaps that part stays a little cooler for you to grab it? Someone did do a test, and after a while they did see some vapor leaving it loaded like that, it took a long time but eventually conduction can make its way there? Eh whatever works for you, not a lot of "wrong" you can do here!
