I'm looking for a water rig for my tempest/tornado.
I'm debating on 14mm jhook + ash catcher with water or do you think there are better 14mm options to get? I feel like water might help a little?..I'm not sure if I want to go dry prophet or water with one of those combos.

Sorry, is that the model number for the new FC mod? Never seen that number before, not sure if it is in the description there somewhere or what... The new FC mod is 18 mm female, for the downstem and the mouthpiece, s shape dropdown adapter is a great way to go 18-14, and you could always use an adapter for the mouthpiece too, but 18 mm is better for more airflow in my experience especially with the mouthpiece
I don't have those two vapes, I'm not sure how desirable they are through water comparatively, of course anything can be used dry, I think a straight fab or egg is a nice dry piece for cooling without water, and becomes more involved with water too... I was going to recommend a recycler like the FC-198 but that is really only good with water, so it would make sense to get that and a hook separately? I never really got into using ashcatch with hook to be a little bub although I have been tempted several times... It depends what you're into form factor-wise versatility wise, cooling-wise but also water conditioning Yeah there are just so many different options, even the prophet can be used in reverse with a little bit of water that is a very nice experience for minimal perc but a little water conditioning...

I thought about adding water to the prophet too. I have a ms fab egg and love it with water. I just want something new. I like the idea of the ashcatcher being a small footprint. I might just grab both. I like recyclers too but never used one. Debating on it.
So maybe this one is wrong?
Could you please direct me to the correct model?

This is the piece @Shit Snacks was pointing you to. Just the bottom section without the ash catcher. I have it and it is very versatile, though I always use it with water. It works well with a number of my vapes, including the Tempest. It is my daily driver at the moment, currently using it with a TM or a Tempest. I don't think there's anything wrong with adding the ash catcher, I just don't feel it's necessary for the way I use the piece.
Added: I decided to add a photo with the way I'm using it currently. I use a long mouthpiece so that I can get a good view of the glass. This is particularly useful when reheating the Tempest.

The first one seems to be single circ, and the second is a double circ, difference being diffusion and airflow, the double would act more like a matrix I think? Less desirable imo...

Tutorial/Guide for FC- mods? I create a page in the resources section here for FC- products. I get confused with the numbers and which products on DHGate/Ebay to look for. I was think it would be great to have a resource page that explains the pro/con/use case for each of the FC- products, and more importantly, a link to the product. Does anyone want to help me? Having a description of why/when to use each piece, any history of it, would be great. I think you can just edit the resource page.

Not sure if you're aware, but the FC products from Sam L have nothing to do with the FC mods here... It is just members of FC, who talk to Sam L, so they as manufacturers decided to use the FC numbering for some of those models, but not all of them... They are not glass pieces that are endorsed by FC as a brand or anything so I don't think it makes sense as a resource page here the way you describe?
All the history is here, some products are no longer available, and have different names, different manufacturers have stuff too... So what you want is a current list of top recommended pieces in general... There's not really a way to update here, you'd have to keep posting, making the third longer, which is how this one became the behemoth it is!
I've gotten tired of repeating myself with links etc, and I'm even less motivated to try to make a comprehensive list, also people have different opinions so it's kind of not possible? For one person to do it that way and it be universally accepted at all... Reddit has one for their China glass sub although it is outdated and people still don't necessarily use it? I've posted lists and links there too, I just get tired, instead end up directing people to search or looking up my posts to see what I recommended lol

I prefer 18mm joints for everything but with occasional items I'm not given an option. That's why in that picture you'll see an 18 to 14mm reducer for my Tempest adapter. Most of the vapcap/Tempest style 8mm stem adapters have 14mm joints. That's OK because I have a bunch of reducers around, but I'd rather not have to use them. Almost all the pieces I use often other than the head of my Lotus are 18mm.

Speaking of using glass dry, I received my Cactus Cooling Whip from the Stash Shack that is a 14mm version of the Prophet I wanted to get. I've replaced the whip with one of my GVB mouthpieces and so far I really like it as a dry piece.

Water filter? Do you mean the water piece, the UFO? I always use some ISO to clean out a new glass piece even if there is no odor. A glass blowing shop may not be a particularly clean or dust free environment. If there are any odors, it should resolve them. I do the same with any glass adapters.

Yep, not sure about any smell, but fully clean before use regardless (dish soap rinse too)
