Cannabis Hardware (formerly NewVape) FlowerPot Twax Vaporizer

Yup, I've tried it all. I find I need higher temperatures for convection concentrates in the showerhead. But I also find pretty weak vapor production (for dabbing) in the Showerhead (surprising considering the huge amount of surface area in the SH trough) without the PID being fairly high also, which increases the residual hot air production. Not shitting on the SH, I love this vape, but I can finally see a potential drawback to having both in one device after thousands of hours of use.
I find "dabs" to work best with any of the small specialty dishes, with no capping at all.
I get OK dabs at 700ºF in the ShowerHead, but they outlast me..... unless I slow things down with a capping.
ShowerHead dab properly capped has given fully acceptable results, in a single shot.
Be sure to turn the cap (easy with lollypop cap)slowly around 360º, and by the time the turn is complete, and lungs full to max. the dab is done.

Tonight I get to experience my first go with FP WA. Its going up against some top tier desktops and I hope to come back with the feeling of being impressed to a different level beyond the others I have played with. Can't wait!

Oh, you will. I haven't picked up my Crafty or most of my other vapes since getting this thing.

I was under the impression that i did not need to pick up the 16mm coil nut to work the d-nail wraparound if I already have the 20mm coil nut for the showerhead. So i was trying to use my d-nail sic yesterday on the wraparound instead of the slim base by d-nail and the threading does not fit the 20mm from the showerhead. Am i missing something? TIA

The Newvape wraparound has been changed to 20mm but I don't believe the D-nail has yet.

@mixchu69 I was confused by that when people have asked me about what to purchase for the WA. The parts that I bought back in October, I believe they still sell -

D-Nail Wrap-Around Post for 20mm Coils (3075)
SKU: 3075

Center Post Coil Nut (9174)
SKU: 9174

Those two parts work together for sure.

NV's website for (3075) is a little confusing to me, but I haven't been following the adaptation of the WA head so it looks like there are two coil nuts?

  • Wrap-Around Centerpost Designed for the D-Nail Sic Dish
  • Fits all manufactures 20mm Coils
  • Will fit standard 25mm dishes but will have small gap on sides of dish
  • Fits quartz, titanium, and sic dishes all sold separate.
  • Comes with dish retainer nut
  • Coil, Coil Nut, and D-Nail Dish are extra.
  • Requires 16mm Coil Nut (sku 9174) I know it seems odd but we have to sell out our current stock
  • Titanium is grade 2
  • Made in the USA

NewVape is still using the 16mm coil nut for the dnail wraparound until they sell off the rest of their inventory.

I just ordered a 20mm WA with SiC and quartz dishes. It will be a long weekend of waiting for Monday to come.

Just be glad you aren’t in the Uk. I ordered my second pid and a big case on the 7th, usps got it to the uk for the 11th and it’s sat there ever since waiting for parcelforce to pick it up and pass it to customs. That’s 4 days to do 4212 miles (crow flight) to the uk and then 5 days and counting for parcelforce to move it less than 18 miles to my house. More ridiculous still is during the time my newvape orders been in the uk I’ve ordered and received glass from sunshinestore right the way from China

It's been a grand two months with my showerhead FP and it's been a great, amazing time. The device works exceedingly well, but for something so expensive I'm surprised at some of the design choices.
  1. The carb cap and screw-in spatula are exposed to heat and due to metal expansion the tightly torqued spatula/dabber comes loose. Mostly just annoying although I had one instance where the cap came off, fell, and scorched my carpet.
  2. Spatula/dabber conducts heat exceptionally well, so leaving it on the showerhead is generally a bad idea. I fixed this by slipping on some heat shrink rubber and now it is all insulated!

  3. My biggest gripe is how the heating coil sits on the basket, it tilts. This doesn't appear to have any negative impact on functionality but my friends who have used it are surprised that such an expensive vaporizer would lack the requisite style and polish. I imagine thermal expansion plays into the design but the tilting from two of these pieces is significant enough to casually notice.

Again, more aesthetic than functional, doesn't detract much from usage, but certainly room for what I feel is improvement.

Man I love this thing, if this is the most I can bitch about it says a lot to the overall quality and performance.

Makes me wonder about metal cookware!

Hehe, I've wondered the same, but I think cooking is vastly different from vaporizing....flavor comes from browning/carmelization of protein, sugar, etc

I have a glass/pyrex/something sauce pan and cooking anything but sauce and or boiling water are absolute nightmares in that thing! Gimme cast iron any day

zor,

just_the_flu

they say im crazy but i have a good time
... @zor , i use pliers to give the dabber a little extra turn, i have not had any loosing issues since i've started that... before that i used a touch of reclaim on the threads which worked! but if you swap out dabbers it is messy, and i don't like cleaning that shit up :D

Yeah it definitely would be cool if that was possible, but I just don't think it is. Not only does it need to have tolerance for heat, but also so that the force of friction doesn't rip the bowl out of the glass as well.

It might be possible to mitigate this, even if just a bit, if there was a coil nut that had a little bit less threading so it could sit a little deeper on a bowl like the panhead but without the top ring to account for the deeper coil nut.

The Maillard reaction responsible for the caramelization of sugars creates acrylamides, and most likely does the same when inhaling dried cannabis vapor considering the temperatures studied at for acryalmides, and the fact that dried flowers contain sugars which observably brown during vaporization. It's just chemistry.

Are there any plans to do the showerhead dish in quartz or sic?

I'm willing to bet the info being teased and the product that will shortly be released is the vRod head that @biohacker posted a snippet of a convo w Edwyn where the initial concept was revealed to us all.

Here's the snippet:

"Using a 14mm size glass and the 14mm bowl post will drastically increase draw resistance and may give you what your looking for.

Our current 20mm showerhead uses 19 holes .078" dia drilled thru a 1.2" center section and is designed around a 3/4" screen. That combination number of holes, length of center section, and hole dia is the flowerpot's special sauce.

I'm also under the belief that laying the material flat across a suspended 3/4" screen with direct full coverage of the entire screen area is critical.

I'm testing a 3rd flowerpot head that combine the wraparound and showerhead into one. (Code name vrod) it uses the standard wraparound head with sic/quartz dish, 1 hole in and 19 out. There is a little more draw resistance with this head. It's also 1/4" taller than the existing heads (not happy with this).

it's not a trivial machining process to drill 19holes 5/64" straight thru 1.2" deep. (I believe that current cycle time is 45min just to drill the holes in one showerhead) switching to a smaller size drill will increase the cycle time and increase cost.

what size hole and qty were you thinking of.

this being said I'm open to discussing a smaller version of the flowerpot system based around a 3/8 or 1/2 screen.

sorry for the ramblings. feel free to share any of this on FC

Thanks for your support and interest in newVape

~Edwyn"

From what we were told, it has the bottom holes of the showerhead, but the top will be like the wraparound with the ability to fit dishes. It will be taller to accommodate this.

I could be wrong but I assume this is what you're asking for (and a lot of other people) and I think it's what we are getting.

Bad news is I sold my showercap a few weeks ago so I'm fucked

I interpreted the snippet from http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/newvape-flowerpot-twax-vaporizer.23162/page-340#post-1219009
differently, and believe the "vrod" will have the same holes running through both ends, but with a dish attachment on the top above the 19 holes. It would be nearly impossible to drill 19 holes that converge into one!

My interpretation is that the dish on top will only have one hole, but directly under that one hole will be the vrod you spoke of, with a full 19 holes at each end.

ya, perhaps I worded poorly. by "like the wraparound" i meant presumably this will have a retaining nut on top where the hole(s? ... nah just 1 apparently!) will be and you can interchange the dishes. I could be wrong though.

I'm not even sure I'll buy the vrod anymore if I'm being honest but it will be interesting to see how (if?) it changes the airflow dynamics and how that impacts the flower smashing ability of this beast

Hmm, I had learned that acrylamides are generated from starch though, potatoes in particular, via exposure to high heat (chips, French fries). The Maillard reaction when cooking a piece of protein like steak doesn't involve any sugar, as far as I know...and for what it's worth, if the FDA is even worth the two shits it used to be there's this table here https://www.fda.gov/Food/FoodborneIllnessContaminants/ChemicalContaminants/ucm053566.htm

Anyway, major digression from this thread, Flowerpot rules acrylamide drools
