I seem to be having issues with my Weedeater, avb isn't as dark as it used to be. I've been wondering if my coil was beginning to go? I've turned it up a few times from 660 to 675 but it doesn't seem to help. I don't think it's in my imagination because if I dig down into my avb bowl it looks darker. Today I was trying out the arizer basket screen for some micro dosing closer to the heater but it didn't seem to help either so I decided to try my backup coil dialling it back to 660 but the results were the same. I know the ambient air temperature is a little cooler but really I've never noticed such a change in colour before. I'm wondering if it could be my pid? Other then occasionally changing temp I don't mess with it, it's still in auto tune. If I can't figure out a fix I'll have to refind a new temp and hope I don't lose power again.

I've noticed that some flower doesn't get as dark as quick, not sure what causes it, though. Doesn't seem to be moisture.

Don't think it's my flower, same strain I've been using for 10 years vaping for 2+, same arriving from the grower dry, same stored with moisture packet. And I'm not getting my regular hit, rather then hitting it getting dense vapour and have it thin out and stop I'm getting whispy vapour I can't crush in one hit. Feel like I'm 600 or below not 675. Using the same flower in other vapes still acts normal. Swapping coils didn't fix it and a Weedeater head can't malfunction so in my mind that leaves the pid but I'm unsure of what to look for other than something glaringly lose. I opened it up everything looks connected, nothing burnt or damaged, no idea where to go from here.

Wedge a cheap bead end K-type thermocouple into the coil and monitor the temperature that way to confirm PID temps or variations.
Is it possible to use something like a ir thermometer? Ideally I'd rather invest in something I might use more than once but in the meantime I'll see if I can source one in my area. It started just a couple months ago first my avb looked lighter, than I couldn't crush it in one hit.... two hits and now finally it's very whispy and light. If only I knew what the minimum vaporization temperature was so I could see how far I'm off by.

It’s not as oily. More oil fries/toasts the herb more making it darker brown. If you add wax or kief to your herb it will exaggerate this effect. @Bad Dog I agree with rusty. Investing in a digital multimeter with a k-type thermocouple is the way to go. $25ish on Amazon. I did a post on it a couple pages back. Hope your sorted out soon. I’m curious what you find out. I’ve yet to burn out a coil.

@Bad Dog try drawing slower, at higher temps if i draw slow enough I can get a bowl dark dark brown in one pull.

After seeing those fancy abv cans I had to make myself a budget version

I’ve found on 600, with two terp pearls and a carb cap the most even and cool consistent clouds at this temp. Perfectly even AVB too.

No one was posting any pictures of the halo dishes D-Nail sells so I grabbed a quartz halo out of curiosity. So far so good. Fit is about 95% perfect. They are selling seconds quartz dishes, which is what I grabbed, for $35. Mine seems near perfect. 6A64B698-5101-48E8-8D52-8494EBE4BB3C.jpeg

Have you heard about the boom on Mizar 5?
I actually managed to combust for the first time last night with my V-Rod :ugh:. More herb in the bowl then usual and getting distracted playing with the music volume while hitting my rig at 700f created a perfect storm of yuck. It really shows however how resistant the flowerpot is against combusting as all of those factors had to come together, I've been using my FlowerPot for almost a year at pretty high temps without a combustion incident until now. Also shows how sensitive my dainty little palate has become after being on a diet of dabs and vaped herb for around the last 4 years, I used to hit some pretty gnarly pipes and bongs back in the day without being bothered by the taste. Now I have to switch pieces immediately as the burnt taste is too much!

Thanks, I think I checked every category besides that.

I've always wanted to try something beside SiC for the VROD. Last time I asked NV they said they weren't coming back because SiC is better.

Hey guys, I may be late to realize this but have you ever experimented to see how small an amount of kief you can get a decent hit from in Flowerpot? I’ve been playing around with that and it’s a surprisingly minute amount. Like, just enough to get lodged in the double weave screen! I’ve gotten some amazing hits off this minuscule amount. And I recently got a grinder that’s a total kief machine I’m psyched! I mean off a good sized bug I can harvest enough to have several nice Kief bowls.

No no difference in performance or effectiveness at all! Just a different experience and feel but even that’s ever so slight.

Use a Pollen press or other methods to create a Kief Brick. Then break it into smaller pieces carefully, and it shouldn't be as messy. If you don't want to, I put the kief in the middle of my bowl.

Meaning: I cover the bowl's bottom to ensure that the screen is well covered and then toss kief in the middle and then top it off with more herb.

thanks for that link @710yota . @The Stray Fox how does it compare to the sic?
I personally like a quartz dish on my VRod. I’ve been using a 25mm quartz dish but this is much nicer. I’m not sure why I don’t love my VRod SiC dish. It feels dry and like ceramic. I love my SiC dish on my DCup. It’s a totally different experience.

Edit: My quartz dish temp is running at 465 about 10 degrees cooler than my SiC dish with the same 595 Pid setting. I’ll probably bump it up a bit but vapor is very tasty as you can imagine.

I had looked on DHgate and some other sites after NV stopped selling them, so this is a very welcome surprise. Can't wait to see the difference for myself after using only SiC for almost 2 years.

Awesome call on the quartz dish, I’m grabbing one also. Easy choice for me between “i know this is clean and clear” and “doesnt look dirty.” I was pretty shocked when I went to “deep clean” my sic dish this morning.

Man @710yota killed me with the “dainty little palate” thing, but I’m actually going through it myself to the point where even vaped bud tastes ruined and only precious live extract is acceptable to my ridiculous tastebuds.

what can ya do? Besides put together a concentrates setup, which I’m figuring out...

Quartz halo “second” is out of stock. F

When you guys set the handle of the vrod down on the shower head does it sit totally flush or slightly lean down just a little on the right (right handed)

It leans because it’s made to do that.
If your setup includes any coil handle, it’ll lean heavier.
Some coil angles break gravity forces, I believe if your coil is angled 135* degrees downwards, it’ll lean less.
But I wouldn’t tinker with any of my coils, trying to bend them.
Some coil manufacturers and providers already sell “angled/bent coils”, but they’ll need to match NV specs or PID manufacturers.
NV played with tolerances between FP heads bottoms and bowls tops, by the 1/10 of a mm to reach that goal.
Not too tight, not too loose.
It is necessary to prevent any NV FP head to stick together, due to heat expansion/contraction when mated to any of the Ti or glass bowls.
If tolerances were too tight, NV head and bowl will stick together, if too loose, NV head and coil/handle will fall/slip from the bowl.
I hope that makes any sense.
Stay vaped!
Mantente de la mente!!!!

Makes perfect sense.

honest question, at what point do you guys decide if you need a tolerance break? I’m having so much fun with this thing haha, maybe too much fun.
