If anything can replicate that for you, the FlowerPot’s one of the most likely contenders. If you set it to a high temp you can get near the edge of combustion with a lot less risk of going over because you’re delivering more consistent heat.
I’ve never used a brick so I can’t compare them, but so far you have at least a couple of people telling you the VRod works better for them...it’s up to you whether or not you want to believe them, but it is widely recognized as one of the best, most reliable and hardest hitting desktops around.
From what @Stonocrates said it seems like you shouldn’t expect to be blown away by much better effects than the best you can get from the Max with good technique, but a beginner can nail good FP technique quickly and get consistent results; I don’t think that’s usually true for a SB.
Since they do basically work in the same way though (pulling hot air through flower), and they’re both capable of combustion temps and beyond, my guess is the range of effects you can get if you know what you’re doing should not be all that different - although some people will disagree, probably on both sides.
The VRod doesn’t require breathing in the fumes from a torch though, which is a plus for me, and it’s easy and consistent with great effects.
