Brilliant Cut Grinder

I imagine you could do a halfway decent job with something like a dremel, the correct polishing attachment, and the right polish. There's more to it than that (like maybe repeating all the steps several times with smoother & smoother material, etc, etc.) That's how car finishes are done, anyway, which is what came to my mind.

(on edit / forgot): And if you were to do something irreversible, it's only on the inside :) 😰

You'll need to do some research. Same as me, if I were to try. Keep us posted!

With the current deal being 20% off the matte SS version, would anyone still recommend getting the polished version?

I’ve read what people have already said half a dozen times or so, but that has only made it harder to decide.
(Some people say polished might be better, but it seems like it’s mostly for the aesthetics. Although, that is kinda half the point of a ‘brilliant cut’ grinder.. So it’s not as simple as just judging function. Not to mention photos of the polished version look stunning!)

Anyways I would love to hear what y'all think about the current deal. Especially those that got one back when you could buy the polished version at a discount- Would you pay the current full price now?
Or, would you wait and keep an eye out for potential SS seconds from this next batch? (Presuming they even have any/I’m lucky enough to snag one)

I have both finishes and they are both the same from a usage perspective - I use them both daily. I think if you are partial to the polished finish you should get it because no telling if they will continue to produce them. The grinder will be with you for a long time. Trying to get the grinder you want from the seconds will likely yield frustration and will not be perfect even if you find one. If you have the means, get the grinder you want.

Something tells me that they are willing to do them in small batches which they control, e.g.; releasing on sale promos (like 4/20, holidays, etc.)

In this way, they can manage the orders, and keep a skilled person / machine(s) dedicated to the run till they're done, then remove them from offer until the next holiday comes. Gather ordrers & repeat.

They're not going to do these as 'one last run, forever, amen', if they're not sure they can produce these 'at all'. Which means they've figured it out, but want to control the flow, vs. getting onesie-twosie orders that they have to make on-the-fly adjustments to production to accommodate. JMHO.

Both of the ones I got were from seconds, and I can’t tell a single thing wrong with them and I compared it to one of my friends One and he can’t find a single thing wrong with it.

Typically, according to GFL and my own experience, the BFG seconds are just not the perfect color. No flaws, but it just doesn't match the correct one. Ruby instead of blood colored, etc

That's great. The seconds aluminium one I got has some nasty milling marks in the catch tray. Nothing like the full price one I purchased.

Yeah I don't think they said that exactly, they're not all just imperfect color, some are actual flaws in the finish... Still cosmetic only imo (blood ruby for example was a much more rare one off occurrence, and I think the other examples of off colors are even a bit more few and far between, for the seconds, but that's my own conjecture of course)

I received a SS BCG today (after ordered at the beginning of April). One thing I noticed was the top seems to allow some movement/sway, which I don't remember seeing in my previous aluminum version (video below showing what I'm referring to). Curious whether other's have the same thing?

That is normal, all my aluminum BCG are like that... featured as part of the design actually

My aluminum one is about the same. It's a feature, as far as I know.

Here is a great chance to get one of the best grinders on the market at a discount, code SPRING20, even works on their seconds pages,

The large BCG is my goto grinder for big buds (and small if being truthful)

As a satisfied BCG customer/user for the past 5 years (standard set, ordered October 2020) I have sad news to report - the glue which holds the magnet on the top part of my BCG just dropped out after grinding... I don't know why or how it happened, it didn't fall or anything... was cleaned in ultrasonic cleaner once a year, no problems until now...
I don't expect that this falls under the gaurantee they give, but "grinders for life" might have been an overstatement considering... oh well, grinders for 5 years doesn't really roll off the tongue :)

Anybody have experiences with "fixing" this? I was thinking about superglueing it as it was, any advice? I kinda slammed in back in and it didn't fall out again straight away so thats good, but I want a more permanent solution...

Thanks!

Yeah, I would assume that a dot of superglue, or epoxy, would hold it just fine.

Send BCG a message and ask them...it would be interesting to hear their reply as I assumed the magnet was pressed into position.
Yea, I'm a bit dissapointed honestly, when I saw it I was like WHAT, exited the room and returned after to see if I was trippin.... like I had my share of grinders and even the cheap ones never lost the magnet... I should contact them, why not, I'll share the response with you guys in case this happens to someone else... am I the first?!

While I don't have specific experience gluing a BCG magnet back in (and also agree with others that GFL should sort you out here), I did glue a similar magnet on my Fluxer Flite Induction Heater once. Below were the instructions that the maker provided on doing so if helpful here:

  1. Loctite Gel Control super glue is pretty good. It's easy to apply, which is a big deal.
  2. KISS Molecular Adhesive...is a little more reliable and "flexible", but the Loctite is cheaper, easy to apply, and will adhere well.
  3. Use a Sharpie to mark the side of the magnet that needs to go into the hole [as the orientation (polarization) of it matters], then stick the magnet to a piece of Scotch tape, marked side up.
  4. Apply a drop of glue into the hole, then place the magnet-on-tape into the hole, marked side down. The tape is there to hold the magnet in place.
  5. Allow ~45 minutes for the glue to set up [I used a small vice to hold things together], then clean off the tape.
  6. To remove excess glue, use Goof Off Pro Strength solvent, or acetone will also work [note: I'm not 100% this is fine on BCG's finish, but these instructions were also provided re: anodized aluminum, so guess they'd apply here]. The excess glue should fall away easily with a paper towel or an old toothbrush.
