Anyone ever did edibles for a long race? Long being at least a 15k. My pre-race meal for non-marathons is usually two bananas and two slices of white bread. If anything the bananas and wonder bread bind things up :tup:

I've never tried edibles because the last thing I want is tummy troubles during a race (been there done that) but I've often wondered if there was a safe edible that folks have enjoyed without issue. Vaping before hand is of course...a given.:bowdown:

I eat homemade coconut oil/cannabis "butter" before some of the long runs I go on, with no stomach issues. Seems like I can push harder when using edibles and vaping or just vaping alone.

I swim half-a-mile breast stroke a day + 1/4 with nothing but scuba fins to keep my legs in dive shape. I also hike, camp, rock climb etc. I eat lots of fruits/veg/fish,no soda. The myth that stoners are lazy is insulting. Vaping/ edibles helps as combustion is rather bad for your lungs in the long run. I don't swim or rock climb high though.

Let's see. This year's update from Reprojected. This season's goals include Chelanman 1/2 Iron distance Triathlon (72 miles) and a strong effort for a BQ run at the Portland Marathon (I need a 3:30 finish, about 5.5 minutes better than last year). Last year I turned fifty and finished IM Canada. That was a BFD.

Chelanman sort of went sideways when I discovered I'd driven 4 hours and arrived the night before the 7:00am start without my bike shoes. Even so, they put flat pedals on the bike and I pushed through 58 miles on the road bike in running shoes. I finished dead center of the pack after a strong swim and run (and a very short T2 time).

Several of the long rides in the workup here where vaporized. I found I went slower but frequently had more control of things like HR and which muscle groups were pushing. It was also more fun.

I'm in the midst of the Marathon trianing now. Portland is about 10 weeks off and so I'm up to about ... 30-35 miles/week.

I vaped for the first time before / during a long run last week. HR (~150 as opposed to ~145) ran a little high but seem quite stable. I was surprised by how little it impacted my performance. I also felt that buzz-per-hit coeffient seemed pretty high, perhaps because of the increased blood flow smacking up around my brain.

On to Portland...

read an interesting article in the wall street journal a couple months ago about how many long distance runners vape and use edibles before and after racing. it can enhance performance so much that many races ban its use and many competitive runners consider it cheating. i'm thinking about trying to get back to the gym. maybe ill hit the vape before i go tomorrow and see how it goes

Fucking awesome, my man. Thanks for sharing. I'm near Portland and will be in the crowd supporting my running buddies, you included.

I'm sticking with middle distance this year. I'll get back on the Ironman train soon enough, but last year I went hard training for the Mt Diablo marathon (only to come up short) and I'm giving my body a rest this year. And by "rest" I mean three half marathons, the Hood to Coast relay, 3 Olympic triathlons, and a few nutty mountain trail runs.

Boy, how I love being active!

I've been experimenting with this for the last month or so ... 15 mg edibles before a swim or long run. In both cases it feels easier to "get in the zone" where I can really focus on small things like the minutae of the swim stroke or running stride. I'm less clear on the actual impact on performance, but I'm leaning toward saying I go slower.

15 mg and a vaporizer hit before 17 miles this morning. I was able do dial the HR in tighter than I normally do.

Heading out for my weekend long run. Same ol' routine...vape, run, vape. It really is more of a meditative thing for me. Mentally I will not be running....I have already stored the 'things to think about' topics and after about 15 minutes into the run when the runners high begins to melds with the vape buzz..... I'll start breaking out each topic and the running will go to autopilot. I'll mentally come out of it toward the end of the run.

So while I'm sure vaping causes me to relax and run more smoothly because of it.... it's not the physical advantage to running I'm looking for ... its the mental escape from the boredom of the actual running. There are times when I'm training for something and don't allow myself to zone out but for the most part I like being able to run without mentally acknowledging that I am.

This post got me psyched, focused and preped ... now where the F did I leave my Solo and my sneakers......

I have unexpectedly been on my road bike recently. My son took a late-season interest in riding. We watch the TdF each year and he likes that, this year to the extent that he pulled out the old bikes, asked dad to look them over and get them safe, then started riding them around the property. So he decided to call in some debts and we picked him up a pretty nice starter road bike. (He originally wanted a gaming computer but no $ were funneling in that direction, considering all the time he spends on his xbox). The bike sits up a little so he'll be able to get some conditioning without the assorted aches and pains that can along come with getting used to riding a serious road bike (arms, neck, back, hands...).

I thought I'd never get on my road bike again. Mainly because it's been a very very lazy spring/summer for me. No good explanation other than I'm allowing my age to give me an excuse for being lazy. Also, when I do ride, I like to ride my mtb. MTB rides don't have the boring part that road rides (and running) have. Road riding is principally about fitness. MTB is fun first, then fitness. But my son gave the mtb a try a couple of years ago and was not a fan.

Anyway, we've put in around 4 fairly tough albeit rather short rides (yesterday we did his longest yet at 15 miles, with a killer hill at the end). And now I'm feeling like I want to stretch my legs and do one of my old regular 30 mile loops. And when I do, you better believe I'm gonna give vaping a try with it. Should happen before too long. I'll report back!

@GetLeft - Very cool! Sounds like you and your son are having a blast and getting fit at the same time. Great combo. Sure to last that way. The most fun I've had exercise wise has always been with the kids. Excellent choice on the bike versus another game system :tup:

Right on man !
Road biking in that damn peloton can be boring and long as all heck.
Training by yourself is even worst, especially when your out of shape and think
you're still good.
Mountain biking is such a rush that the workout is barely noticed.
I use to motocross 360 two strokes and mountain biking is just as cool and way
less dangerous and expensive.
My launch box is standard equipment on my mountain bike.
I only vape on my road bike when I'm in a park or closed roadway.
NYC traffic is deadly.

I second that one for sure. Buzzed running just about anywhere or buzzed road biking in a park or very low traffic area...good to go. Buzzed road biking in any other condition...not for me. Too many wackos who think having four wheels versus your manually run two wheels means..... you are on THEIR ROAD and in THEIR WAY and that's if they even take the time to look up from the cell phone. I always wondered why road bikers wear those really bright spandex outfits...I guess it's so it's easier to see them and find the body parts.

After a break getting back into weight training. Switching things up from the usual 5 sets of 5, and simplifying things and time spent.

Currently: 8 sets of leg press, descending 8 reps down to 2. Then farmer's walk to two or three failures, then more leg press, from 2 reps back to 8.

Has anyone here implemented cold thermogenesis or the Wim Hof method as part of being an athlete vaporist? I'm definitely noticing improvements in all of my lifts as well as my 1.5m time as well as a noticeable improvement in body composition.

Daaaamn! That's pretty intense bro.... what kinda weight are you carrying on the farmer's walk? Are you using a trap bar or dumbells?

Just a couple 45 lbs dumbells for the moment, until the grip gets stronger.

It's a pretty boring looking exercise, but afterwards I can feel everything from traps down to calves. I haven't seen anyone else do them in the gym. There are lots of deadlifters which is cool.

Awesome. I love it.... I did 75's today right after a set of shrugs and thought I wasn't going to make it back to rack the weights! lol I also like using the trap bar and typically will throw on 225-275 and do some walks. After my hernia, I only use the trap bar for heavy deads.

That's some good weight you're doing on the walk. Do you go to failure? The hardest part is getting those 'bells back off the ground in the middle of the walk. It's like deadlifting where the bar is only a couple inches off the ground!

I forgot to mention pinch grip work too. I just take a couple 25lb plates, pinch them together with one hand and hold and hold...

It's great your deadlifting! That's my favorite of them all! Once the grip gets better I intend to add rack pulls.

Got a nice 7 mile run this morning beach side. Was bed ridden detoxing from an opiate addiction 3 months ago, now I exercise to try get them natural endorphins. A dab and some good vapor helps too.

That so great to hear how you've turned things around in such a short time.

I've mentioned before that I get vaped before a long run and that a major driver for me is after about 15-20 minutes into the run the runner's high kicks in and melds with the MJ buzz. At that point I'm no longer running - I'm dancing, gliding, in-sync with my mental and physical nature and mentally I'm so far from running I may as well be in a sensory deprivation tank with my music blaring...... especially if I'm running at night. Looks like this wasn't all in my mind....well maybe just a little. According to the following article my happy running experiences are due to my body creating it's own form of endogenous cannabinoid, or cannabis that is produced in the body.
