Athlete Vaporists?

I do traditional weight lifting coupled with interval training (things like battle ropes, hitting a tire with a sledgehammer, burpees to pull-up, etc) ... Lately I've been vaping a lot more since I just got a Mighty (my first vape!) - before, I would only combust on the weekends and maybe a weekday if hanging out with people. Now I find my performance in the gym has gone down, you know strength is a lot more mental focus than actual muscular strength. It's been hard to focus and feel motivated during my workouts and I attribute it to weed (and probable lowered dopamine baseline). Everything in life is a game of give and take and right now I feel like giving in to the fun of being high and taking from being a gym rat, which was a life that took a lot of discipline and will power. Still trying to find equilibrium I guess!

CaptV....Completely Agree! The mind and body connection is absolutely essential and MJ should be helping your focus and not hindering it. I train for strength and cardio also. When my mind isn't right I have tricks to try and steer my mental state to where I need it and MJ helps not hurts the process for me. Pavlov's dog kind a stuff. For example....if I'm feeling unmotivated it's like trying to move a mountain to get my mind right so my body will follow...that's where MJ and music come in. I like music a lot for working out but my like for music turns into a love fest with MJ. I think most folk have an affinity for the music and MJ combo or Pink Floyd wouldn't be so popular :D. I have a lot of music that I wouldn't listen to normally but when it comes to needing the mental to move the physical some Eye of the Tiger kind of stuff will do the trick. Heart rate picks up, my mind starts to alert my body that it NEEDS TO MOVE and then the body follows. I have some really nasty, ugly rap and grunge that works for me....a little buzz and this kind of music gets me so worked up it's either work out or punch myself :bang:

It sounds like maybe your mind control hasn't caught up with your use yet when it comes to working out. There is a downside once you master this aspect though and its the opposite affliction. Imagine getting used to using MJ to motivate and intensify a work out and not having any.........horrible.

Strength building is a combination of resistant training, number of sets and rest between sets. You're choice of workouts should focus around core lifts. Eating on a calorie surplus will help.

If you're motivation is lacking and you believe it is from herb than perhaps you should stop. It all depends on you're goals.

I personally don't partake before a workout but the times I have done it has really helped with the muscle mind connection. Amazing workouts. I feel like a kid going to a park excited about all the equipment I want to use first.

In any case I usually leave that till the end of my workouts. Immediately after and than I eat a meal after that. I'm on a three day full body split routine so the weekends leave me plenty of time for vaping.

If you lost you're motivation for working out try listening to music or changing you're routine. Don't let vaping be an excuse. Look in the mirror and ask yourself if you are at you're goal.

Has anyone here implemented cold thermogenesis or the Wim Hof method as part of being an athlete vaporist? I'm definitely noticing improvements in all of my lifts as well as my 1.5m time as well as a noticeable improvement in body composition.

I take ice baths 3-4 times a week now I'm hooked on them. I use them primarily for muscle recovery from the intense running I've been doing lately. Been doing 4x400m's and have really noticed my time improving so will be using them to measure my fitness and speed in the future. My legs are always real heavy with lactic acid for the rest of the day when you push yourself in those 400's but the ice baths help amazingly with that. Ready to go again the next day. I do the Wim Hof power breaths before getting in and the initial shock literally lasts about 3 seconds then I'm comfortable to stay in for 20mins.
It's amazing what the right breathing techniques can do and aid you in. I'm a very lean guy anyway but I've noticed ice baths have really shaved more fat off.
There's a reason Michael Phelps reportedly eats 12,000 calories a day; your body has to spend a lot of energy to maintain your core temperature in (cool) water.

Coming to the end of my football season now so will be bulking for the next few months. Will do the vape before a few sessions for the mind muscle connection and see how I get on. I've had hit and miss sessions in the past while vaked. Will certainly be using it when I'm streching and foam rolling, 100% of the time I get an extra benefit when I do that.

A question for anyone. If weed supposedly promotes homeostasis, would it not be beneficial for bulking then?

@Euphoria - I wasn't aware weed promotes homeostasis. I have been using it as part of my workout routines for 3 to 4 decades. While I feel that using weed accentuates the mind-body connection and allows me to bring more mental concentration, and therefore more physical intensity to my workouts.... I don't know that it helps at the cellular level directly.

I'm not genetically predisposed to bulking up so there's a good bit of work involved if that's what my aim is. I have found that a good quality form of creatine and the occasional protein/lean carb shake can cause me to bulk up some BUT I have stopped using both since I have begun limiting my strength training in place of running/cardio. For me, unless I increase my lifting dramatically, shooting for definition and bulk, the creatine and shakes are not worth bothering with. Sort of like putting high test in a Prius.

Years ago someone who was genetically pre-disposed to bulk/size gains noticed my increase in size when I started to use creatine and asked me how I did it. So I gave him a couple week's supply to try and it was disastrous for him. Within a week he started to size up but it was accompanied by massive muscle cramps even though he followed the instructions for hydration and such. I thought it might be because he was a natural in terms of physique and the additional affect of the creatine was too much of an additive to someone who can get big so easily.

Stories such as that encourage my current thought process.

I am the same as you, I am not predisposed to gain bulk to its a slow process. However I don't do shakes or suppliments. I tend to stick with the healthy diet approach, lots of veg and natural protein. Slow and steady, but healthy and natural :)

I was talking to a workout partner about why I get high before working out. His response was he couldn't understand how I could do that and also stated that he couldn't because it would tire him out or he wouldn't be able to get his mind right to work out. I talked him into getting high for a run or two as an experiment. Fast forward a year - he recently told me he hates working out when he's not high and when I said 'I told you so' he acted like he figured it all out on his own. Go figure......

I also thought it was totally counterproductive, but once I get vaked, I push myself to levels I wouldn't achieve while sober. I think ppl have to get used to the mind-body connection.

this is a really inspirational and informative thread. althought i've only read a couple of pages so far, but the rest will follow. it actually inspired me to hike the 100km 24h Dodentocht march next year. it's almost a year from now and a lot can happen, but it's definitely on my

Outstanding!! Welcome to the thread. Keep us posted on your exploits.

Oh man what a mess of a week this was. I can't remember the last time I looked forward to a long run this much......

Sometimes the weekend long run is about leaving nothing on the road. Tearing it up physically so to speak. Then there are these times when it's about a physical and mental refresh. More like meditation than exercise. Solo is loaded, Phillip Phillips is queued up and its a sunny 77 degrees. Can't wait to merge the vape high with the runner's high and get my mind right.

Here's wishing all of you find the same place and peace I'm running to in a few.......

The best stress relief is a long run. It gets all the tension and anxiety out of me. Even better than vaporizing a few bowls. Hope you get the nice balance of runners high and vapor high, and your next week turns better.

First up I hope your run was a good one :)

Would you tell me a little more detail about your vaping / running routine. How much do you use compared to how much you might use if you were just chilling watching a movie? Before, after, during? Any other key points? I have tried to run high and I find it limits my ability to push as hard. Maybe this is a mindset thing, before discovering FC and reading this thread I always thought weed prevented physical movement quite so much :p

I've seen your posts before about the merging of the highs. The running euphoria I get bursts of whilst running is amazing. Would love to experience both the highs. :D

Thanks :)

@bluenavey00 - the run was just what I needed. Thx for asking.

For a run I use a little more than when I'm just chillin. Chillin is 4 hits, running is 5. My sequence is:
- Sneakers tied, music on
- Vape
- Warm up and stretch (5 minutes or so as the buzz settles in)
- Hit the road
The trick for me is the music and vaping together makes me want to move. So I guess the key is the right music and getting right to it after vaping so I don't get a chance to couch lock. By the time the high and the music and the warm up are lined up .... my feet just gotta go. The music also sets the mood for the run. If I'm looking for full tilt physical there's rap and grunge. If I'm looking for a smooth run, like today, there's something like Phillip Phillip's.

For me the runner's high kicks in at about the 15 to 20 minute mark. I know when it gets there because mentally I've stopped noticing I'm running and I'm engrossed in something else. Autopilot. The music is driving the cadence of the run but it's doing it subconsciously most of the time from here.

Hi guys. I've been getting more and more into exercising recently, and while I don't like to get super high before working out, I enjoy vaping on a bike ride or vaping just a little bit a couple hours before the gym so I'm just barely high enough to sort of get lost in trains of thought while still being sober enough to actually work out haha. Does anyone else workout high a lot? I've heard that it can make your muscles grow differently but I've never really put much faith in that and haven't really seen anything that backs that up.

I literally just got back from the gym, tonight, that started off with a strong vape sesh. I haven't read too much into it, but when I work out high, I feel that I can focus on my muscles individually rather than as a whole. I don't know how much sense that makes, but I feel that I can control "the pump" more when I lift. I absolutely love doing cardio while baked too! It will definitely keep my mind busy while I just run, which makes time go by much faster. So my conclusion is that it enhances my mood in a sense to help me focus more on the technical aspects of lifting rather than jumping in there and throwing weights around. Love to hear more feedback, I definitely recommend it.

I feel that physical activity while medicated is not only more pleasant but also much more productive. Cannabis helps to connect my body with my mind, helping to focus and target particular muscle groups, sending blood flow and oxygen to precise tissues, and allowing me achieve unimaginable results. Working out has gone from being my grueling weekly routine to my magnificent medicinal meditation moments. Sweat and smiles for miles ay!

Wow, I have quite the opposite experience....I have far, far less strength and balance when I try exercising when vaped. I'm more prone to bad technique, I can't motivate myself to press through pain for lifting, and cardio usually raises my heart to unpleasantly high levels and I find myself gasping for breath.

Hiking is great while vaping but again, balance and coordination issues arise.

Very interesting @zor, I'm a pretty tall'ish duder (about 6'6") with long gangly limbs and a high center of gravity but balance and coordination are seldom an issue when I'm medicated. I also find that medicating helps me flow when I'm boarding (skateboarding, skim, snow, surf, etc.) by helping me to connect with my board and environment in a euphoric shredding eruption. Cannabis definitely helps to keep me motivated by mixing things up and infusing my activities with a funky edge of herbal creativity. Everybody reacts to everything differently; to each there own. I usually stick with sativas when I'm exercising or engaging in rigorous physical activities. What strains were you using @zor? Sounds like some indica might be your culprit ay

Honeatly more so than strain I feel like it just has to do with your mentality about weed in general. I know some friends who just like to chill and play video games while high but are willing to go on a bike ride or go out and do stuff, and then I have friends who never wanna do anything when they're stoned and getting stoned equals sitting on the couch and doing nothing and it wouldn't be fun any other way. I feel like I'm the rare one out of the bunch that weed makes me energized to get up and do something or to study, even though I'm not good at it because I'm just so happy and it justifies me vaping more often than I should cause I usually get more chores done, stoned than not stoned lol.
