Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I enjoy switching off and using different vaporizers, it's nice to have more than one. The Ascent and the Solo are a must have in your vaping arsenal. Sometimes it depends on the occasion or mood as to what vaporizer I use. I do use the Solo more to be honest.

Is anybody else experiencing this or am I doing something wrong..

I've used the unit with the glass jar as a spacer and without the jar but I'm getting little if any cloud of vapour expelled at all. The herbs are turning golden brown and I'm getting pretty blasted but just getting no vapour cloud

Glass Jar Tip
I use my glass jars often as a herb container, and on top of loads as heat sink and screen.
I was having trouble opening the Ascent. Normally I could tap the unit and the jar inside would slip down into place. That wasn't working. When I finally worked it open I found the outside of the jar had accumulated resin causing the jar to become stuck. The unit opened after I heated it up, melting the resin.
Regularly soak and clean your glass jars folks.
Enjoy!

Are you packing your loads tightly. That gets the herb closer to the glass surface of the oven and more vapor.
The glass flowers will aid with efficiency, pack as tightly around the flowers as you can.
Also do a bit more reading. All this is discussed recently in detail. Be patient, you can figure it out, it's takes some experimenting to figure things out.

I think if you are medicated that is the goal. Try some of the methods others have tried if you want clouds. Buy some of the glass pipe screen flowers or something similar that can withstand very high temps.

It could be the herb you are using. Sometimes if the herb is too damp it's hard to vaporize. I get better results if I grind the herb. Play around and see what method works best for you. Try different temps, sometimes it take a bit of homework. Everyone says the Ascent has a learning curve.

There are other vaporizers out there that are easier to use. I think if you put in a little effort the Ascent produces great returns. Good luck.

Do you pack it tight or loose? How fine do you grind it if any? You should check out the glass flowers. I have good experiences without, but I am going to buy some soon since everyone has good experiences with them.

I usually "grind" the herb with my fingers (meaning the herb does not look like dust or kief, but still pretty small pieces), and then pack the bowl up fully. Then I use a glass jar or my finger to lightly pack it down a couple of millimeters, and then top it of with some more weed. In normal light, the vapour is very slightly visible from 180*C and up, but so slightly it is basically invisible. I usually smoke under a strong light source to see if I am vaping or not, so this is not an issue with me. I get blasted to the skies anyways.

HAPPY VAPIN' :)

I've always got the best results using bud a little more dried out than usual, a fairly tight pack with glass flowers, and ground up pretty fine. Seems to produce the most disable vapor, if that's what your looking for. And yes, moister bud will not produce as much visible vapor as more dried out bud, from my experience.

Exactly so, to which I'd add: Give it plenty of time between hits to recover heat. 60 seconds is a good place to start, explore longer times as well as shorter. You need time for the glass in the flowers to recover their heat through the blanket of plant matter. Even though tiny, it takes time.

After a lot of contemplation, on December 12 2013 I purchased what I thought would be the best quality vaporizer for my needs, a DaVinci Ascent. I purchased the unit at a premium price directly from the manufacturer to hopefully avoid any issues. I received the unit on 12/17 it only worked for 28 days, so on 1/15 I called your "fantastic customer service" answered about 20 min. of questions and was told I would receive a RMA within a couple days. On 1/21 I called and emailed customer service only to find out you didn't have any of the information from my calls on 1/15! and Aaron Garcia wants my info. again, then Nicole Jones calls me and says she found my info. and that it was in the system as a DaVinci not an Ascent, she said she corrected the problem, gave me an RMA. and that I have to send the unit in as per instructions, pay postage, and contact customer service with tracking number. So I call customer service with tracking number and Aaron said it is still listed as a DaVinci, not a Ascent. I explained again and he assured me that it would be taken care of. The unit was received by Organicix on 1/23 it's 1/28 and I haven't received a response. So, because my confidence is low, I'm writing today (and calling) to find out, 1) What is wrong with the unit. 2) What will be done about it. 3) When!

My DaVinci Ascent doesn't get used every day, maybe 2 or 3 times a week for personal use, it's never abused and is cleaned, and well cared for. I don't buy cheap junk and expect the best, I spend my hard earned money on the best quality products to avoid problems with junk. I purchased the Ascent at a premium price, directly from Organicix and expected a quality product. When it arrived it seemed very sturdy and well built. but after less than 4 weeks use (probably a dozen times) the unit stopped heating and charging, Organicix said the unit was defective, I had to pay $20.00 to have it shipped back and wait for a replacement. My replacement unit was not constructed as well as the first, the charging plug does not fit very well and the outside case and trim pieces are sloppy and loose, but at least it worked! Now 7 weeks later my unit stopped heating, AGAIN, it still charges this time, but it's useless. A $270.00 paper weight

I purchased the Ascent because I wanted a PORTABLE vaporizer. I hoped to bring it camping, front porch, garage, etc. But even with delicate handling and proper care and cleaning the Ascent fails miserably. This time my unit worked for 6 weeks, it was never even moved away from the table next to the couch along with the charger. (real portable) I was afraid to even move it to use it, There is no way you could ever take it anywhere! and of course it failed! These units are severely flawed, poorly designed, terribly assembled, junk. I DON'T LIKE BEING SCAMMED!!! Maybe for $40. but now I have just under $300. into this scam.

I can't believe everyone is OK with this! Some even buy another unit to use while waiting for all these replacements, I'd rather have my money back! Just sending more severely flawed and poorly designed junk does nothing to solve the problems they have! They should not sell anymore, and I defiantly would not recommend there products to anyone!

Yep, you got us figured out. Its a sort of pyramid scheme. We bought into it so now we try and sucker others into buying an Ascent, so DaVinci can continue to send out new replacements. If nobody buys the Ascents, then the company folds and my two year guarantee is gone.
Just joking.......but this is new tech stuff. In two years there will be better products, but now this is one of the best available. I feel your pain after 3 failed Ascents myself and dealing with DaVinci's questionable customer service has made me just as mad as you are. I recommend patience and getting a Solo backup.

I purchased my Ascent in Oct 2013. I only have been using it 3x a wk max. I keep it very clean and rarely travel with it. So far, knock on wood, I haven't had any issues. Just recently I had to take a cannabis hiatus, going on 1 1/2mo now, I'll probably start up again within 3wks. I'm wondering if my very light use is just a ticking time bomb. I'm hoping that I might have possibly gotten a good unit or if more extended use will bring about the units failure. I'm thinking that when I start up using again that maybe I should start using it more consistently. I don't want to have it fail after the warranty expires. This is something that should be a non issue, especially for the price, but after reading about even the newer models having the same problems I'm starting to worry. I guess only time will tell. I shouldn't have to put this thing through lots of daily use to make sure it's not defective. Just something that worries me.

Critter, Sorry to hear about your problems with the Ascent. I don't use mine all the time either and maybe I should use it more just in case mine stops working. It's scarey when we hear of the units breaking down continually like that. I don't know if I would have the patience. Maybe Davinci would allow you to get the original Davinci with some freebies, if you wanted to try that vaporizer out instead.

There were some of the units that had problems with the wiring by the hinge, I still don't open mine all the way because I'm paranoid.

There have been members that have gone through 2 or 3 Ascents and who knows if the ones they have now will hold up. I understand your anger.

I guess more folks are going to come on FC to complain than say positive things about this unit. There are those that haven't had any problems. I wonder if there are still some Ascents out there with the wiring problem by the hinge that haven't been taken out of the system?

Not everyone is okay with this. For one thing, many people (I'd even say most) have never had a problem, but there have been others with an equally bad series of Ascents, and if you read this thread you'll come across them.

My feel for the issue is, if yours was going to fail it would have by now. Many of those failing are out of the box, wire issues, or button issues. Relax, this doesn't sound like you.
Meanwhile talk up the Ascent so more people buy them. Maybe DaVinci will stay in business for two years. :brow:

Thanks Glass004, that's good to hear and I sorta suspected that, but still can't help but to worry abit. Yeah, I do try to talk the Ascent up when possible, I have reccomended it on other forums. I'm not familiar with other vaporizers but I do like the Ascent, it really comes in handy for me at certain times. I gotta admitt it would be awful hard for me to completely stop smoking joints. I hate bongs, pipes, and other smoking devices, I always have, but the Ascent is something different and very enjoyable for me. I don't regret the purchase at all and hope to be able to use it for many years to come.

Sorry, not trying to bend your rules, just being completely honest. I'm not guessing or assuming anything about the so called wire problem. I have actually, physically, witnessed the problem and nothing has been done to remedy the so called wire problem. I have had both versions, (1AA1 and 2AA1) and it's only a matter of time, or better yet, how many times the hinge is opened. I guess if you only open it half way (90 degrees) it might hold together a little longer, if you're lucky, but that is not a quick remedy to the actual problem. it will fail eventually.

I've lurked here for quite a while, long before I purchased my first (of many) Ascent and I love my Ascent that's why I'm so upset. I've designed, fabricated, (and of course troubleshoot, redesign, re-fabricate), many devices, tools.... That's what I do, I'm not good at typing so it was my first post. But I can't just watch people keep hoping (like I have) that this issue has been remedied when I know it has not. The wire issue is not a problem with the wires, it's how they have no support between the solder connection to the circuit board/charging port and the hinge. The wires are very short and all the movement is concentrated to the weakest/easiest point of movement witch is (of course) the solder connection. This is 101, how many times can you bend a uninsulated wire in the same spot before it breaks? If you needed to cut some wire with no wire cutters, just find a spot, strip the insulation, bend it there a few times, and its cut. (this aint rocket science) If these wires were supported, (and there's many easy ways to do it) so they didn't move at the solder connection, we would all be way past the warranty period before it ever broke. Any one with experience in this kinda stuff would know this. Designing or leaving something like this is just plain lazy and it certainly would not cost anything when manufactured. So just keep sending out new units, tell people they open it to far/to much and hope it goes away, that doesn't cost anything!

I really liked my Ascent a lot when it worked, actually I loved it! But if anyone has actual tried and true experience with a good portable, please advise me. (pax maybe) I know I'm gonna miss the glass on glass taste but first and foremost it's got to work.

I have an Ascent that I have had since last October and it's still going strong. I 've been happy with my unit. Early on I had one of the first ones in production and I needed to send it back due to a cracked bowl and air leaks. I had wonderful cs. I don't use it every day. I probably use mine maybe 4 or 5 times a week. Its not my daily driver. I really do enjoy using the Ascent and I would miss it if it stopped working. I wouldn't give up I would send it back for a new one.

It does have a 2 year warranty, not all units have that.

Yes, I'd say there are several hundred positive posts from owners? Probably a lot more. I suggest some reading of the thread to find them? The Forum rules say:
  • Lurk before posting. Please search and read before posting to see if your topic is already covered.
  • Read threads before posting in them. Thread rules may be outlined in the first post.
I understand that's a daunting task, but I bet if you selected say 5 or so pages at random you'd find at least one such person. In 6,000 posts there are plenty to find. Doubt not, or research?

I've had mine since September and no problems to date . It's not my daily driver and is used mostly for hiking ,camping or when I'm off the grid.
I rather like the little thing. It does the job quite well, attractive, comfortable in my hand and heats up fast.

I am in my tenth week with an Ascent. It is my daily driver. I use it 4-5-6 times a day, every day.
It works. I worry that in public, the vapor is too visible. I have definitely learned that this vaporizer manifests a sleeper-titration (samsara*-)medication experience. It just keeps coming. Whoa!!!
"Seriously Officer, it simply snuck up and slugged me."

The Ascent battery will be the weak point. I get perhaps three 20-30 minute sessions between full charge light and 1/4 bar. In this second session today, I've been "using" some time now and see half charge left. I did not follow the instructions to charge for 5 hours when first received and may have weakened the battery.

The Ascent is my only vaporizer and this forum suggests I should have a second, a back-up. Soon a Solo will likely sit alongside the Ascent, which will no-longer be a solo vape.

Financially I came out pretty good ;)
For $506 spent for two Ascents and the return postage on 3, I also got 10 sets of stems and 8 jars, and 4 chargers -$200 value ?
I got all that stuff for $306 final cost, (just as an estimate).
And I really like the device, even though reliability might be an issue.
