Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

If you use oil, Don't you put it in the jar, then put lid on jar, then put that jar in the oven. Then turn it on.....What temperature do you all suggest, How much should I put in the jar?

Perused the older Ascent pre-sale thread moments ago.
On Dec 8th last year, @mmenzie asked,
hello all... i have a question ... i hate to admit it but i have not cleaned the bowl of the Ascent since i got it (i have cleaned the other glass) and now its really brown. q-tips soaked in ISO do not clean it at all. the resin is pretty "caked" on and i am not sure how i can clean it since this part obviously can't be soaked. anyone have any ideas for me on trying to get it somewhat clean again??

I too have been watching the staining of the pure white bowl that I received. I've tried swabs and ISO, wood picks and ISO soaked cotton balls. That is I tried once and was distressed by how bad the next bowl tasted. And, as the cleaning had seemed not at all successful, I figured I needed to surrender to the bowl's taking on a patina, perhaps like a fine meerschaum pipe.

However, yesterday I did this and today am again happily baking bud in the oven. See below for how.

I steam cleaned the bowl.
Obviously it is not perfect. The tools and supplies used were again, ISO, cotton swabs and sturdy wood toothpicks, also cotton balls.

I took about half of a cotton ball, soaked it in water, squeezed lightly and pushed the wet cotton into the bowl, holding the Ascent upside down so excess water would fall out while the cotton was pressed in against the inner surfaces. I turned the Ascent on at 100 Celsius; actually a bit higher. The water in the cotton steamed and softened the baked bowl-brown. I did this with the glass stems in place and held the Ascent upright. Steam rose from the stem and water drops condensed within. I closed the oven. This could also be done with the oven open.

As needed I swung the bowl open to dry the mating surfaces*. I removed the cotton, and used swabs with ISO and sturdy wood toothpicks. With the vaporizer inverted, the mouthpiece was cleaned in place with swabs, ISO and water (I have the below-buddy O-ring glass lock). I then repeated the process several more times. At one point, I used an ISO cotton ball in the bowl and lower temperature to vaporizer the ISO. This was early and followed by the water steam. When finished you can change the glass stems, though I am still using the filter stem that was steamed. The taste is fine.

I do not think this method will bring any harm as long as the Ascent is held upright. I did have mine lying flat on the counter, hissing away with no problem. Best to have the glass stems in place when steam cleaning, this ought to keep the water vapor out of the electronics.
*BTW, one-atmosphere steam pressure will escape the bowl seal.

Been lurking this thread for a while now (since I ordered my Ascent), so I thought it was in order to say hello to all of you guys and ask a question.

You see, I recieved 1g of some Sour Diesel-wax today. I was looking forward to this because I have never seen, touched, combusted or even vaped wax before, so I was ready to try something new. Though I can't say I am happy with my experience. First of all, the Ascent turns my wax into some sort of oil which will not dissipate, so I am guessing first of all, the Ascent does not seem to be able to completely vape my wax. And secondly, the high from vaping wax seems INCREDIBLY short, like 30 minutes or something.

I am quite annoyed since trying out wax was a big part of why I ended up with the Ascent. Sooooo, what should I do? Is there some secret trick to vaping wax with the Ascent, or should I just roll my wax up in a joint or something?

Yes! Yes there is, but we can't tell secrets.
I welcome you here. With one post, you are the new newbie. but as I have never seen wax, oil, shatter, etc...I guess I still am the newbie.
I did chose the Ascent partly on the oil jar marketing. Not yet tried and I am uncertain about traveling through CO (detour) later this year.
A few hours ago, I received my car charger, spare glass stems and extra oil jars. Da Vinci sent oil cans, but promises to send jars ASAP.

Should I remove the leftover wax-oil? Will I vape SOME of it every time I vape with the jar, or will I just warm it up and cool it down all the time with no added benefit?

Is anyone else noticing that the small silicon lip on the upper part of the bowl is breaking away with cleaning? I use a cloth to wipe that part off every few bowls and that seems to be causing it. It hasn't effected my vapor as far as I can tell but I'm wondering if someone else has noticed this and also thinks it's irrelevant.

As CarolKing stated yours, hers and my power cord are too short. Furthermore the DaVinci webb site will not let you register a bad review about the charger due to a malfunction requiring an email address with no place to give it. Consumers are being shammed by the webb site with positive reviews. Everybody here mentions the plug is too short and cord is too short, but nothing about that in the reviews on the site. I corresponded with the customer service supervisor about this, with no response, yet? Sorry your $20 got took. I wish I had read CarolKings post first myself before buying the 12V power cord.
Still waiting on my warranty repair from DaVinci on my Ascent. I'll give a follow up post on that process soon I hope.

@vapedck and Glass004- read through the last few pages. No one has had any success vaping wax/shatter/oil. Ego pen style batteries with a glass globe setup would be my suggestion for a cheap effective way to vape your oil. Unless you want to invest in a glass rig. GL

@Norcalsun read the posts in the last few pages carefully please, I have not said a word about waxes/shatter/oil

Quoting you completely out of context, but I suspect that would apply to any negative review. Didn't see criticisms.
I was going to give them a chance to fix it before I went there. Ah.. The ethics of small business

You will notice the car charger's cord is too short, unless they changed that feature. Difficult to have plugged in and use at the same time.

This has come up several times. I suggest it's not an accident? It seems to me it's plenty long to use to charge the unit (in fact, I'd say lots of extra cord is a negative there?). The issue seems to be using it while driving......perhaps a function they don't support?

Just a guess. They're sure to have asked 'how long shall we make it'.......

The 12V plug is shorter than the 120V charger plug, which was most likely designed to be long for a good reason.
My 12Vplug fell out as the cord is not long enough to allow setting the ascent in a stable place while charging and driving,
THIS IS A NO BUY RECOMMENDATION IMO

I've had clouds upon clouds of success mixing the wax in with the bud and then packing it with the glass flowers (or any little pieces of clean glass you feel comfortable heating up)
The finished load comes out dry so it seems the wax is used completely or close to it.

The oil jar also just melted my wax but didn't vape it so i disregard those.

I can't imagine this being an issue myself, aren't the 12v sockets usually within a foot of the cup holders? I do not use my ascent while it's charging because of the fact that the charge is not strong enough to beat the usage, and so there is no point risking damaging the unit in some way. If you are truly just trying to charge your unit then maybe you want to include a picture of your issue so that people can see if they are gonna have the same problem. I personally LOVE the design of the cable as it cuts down on cable clutter which I already have more than enough of in my car with a phone charger and aux cord and plan to be picking one up in the future. Then again, my cup holders are quite close to my 12v outlet.

I plan a three week road trip and need to charge my Ascent via the car battery. Vaping while driving is not my concern.
However perhaps the car, not the cord is the problem. With the cord in my power outlet and the plug in the Ascent, I can bring the stem to my mouth without the plug falling out. If the coils can be stretched and relaxed, this could work in my car.

"The power outlet cord, Officer? That is for the back-up camera monitor you see just there."

I won't offer a mint!

Mine is getting destructed in some places, but just by the friction from normal opening/closing. I think this is what happens when you add a last minute fix untested in the long run...

This hasn't changed anything though. On the other hand, and it's quite surprising, before I applied the leak-fix, I had a lot of oil building up in this area. So much that it almost dripped towards the exterior of the device and if I did not clean it frequently enough, swiveling the bowl would spread the oil all over and it was a mess in no time.

It's hard to believe but since the fix, this area is completely dry now. The only oil build-up left is on the glass screen bottom. I just wipe that with a q-tip after a couple sessions, but that's it. Weird heh?

Just to add ,
The Ascent was designed to be used while charging .
What if it is the Passenger in the car , that needs medicating
during the trip ? A longer cord would be helpful .

It's still a car charger..... If it doesn't suit you, don't buy it. Or use an extension on the car end. But I don't think claiming it's an ignorant oversight has any meat to it. The cord length was a conscious decision in a product line that otherwise shows great care taken with details.

The logic that 'the passenger could be using it' (even if that was legal) also says that an open container of alcohol is OK as long as the driver isn't holding it, something I think few would defend? I can understand DV's lawyers might suggest avoiding the, 'look here, jury, the maker even marketed accessories to promote using his products by owners while driving.....'. Just a guess, mind. But competent lawyers are aware of the Tort risks. They're paid to protect those deep pockets.

Charge beforehand, charge after every sesh? I can't imagine many passengers have much of a larger appetite than that, and if they do maybe the device in general isn't a good match? The charger works slower than the usage even at home. Again I don't think they designed the cord for passing and charging, and I'd prefer if they don't change it into a spindly little cord like the home charger, maybe you should suggest to DV to offer a straight cord option.

Regardless, there are people on this forum that are perfectly happy with the cord and I feel that you'll have a hard time convincing them to tell people not to buy the cord or that it needs improvement.

We are just trying to inform the consumer. You need to know beforehand what you can and cannot do with this tool. Just have fun and good health, enjoy your Ascent.

I also was thinking that the short cord was purposely made this way by DV. They don't want to be sued in case someone was in an accident and had cannabis in their system. Good lawyer advise I would imagine. OF is right on with that.

Yes I agree, sandwiching will work. I was talking about vaping oils exclusively. I prefer vaping oils alone. It's a taste thing. Plus vaping bud along with oil gives me a different high. I like both highs but like to experience each on their own. If that's makes any sense. But thanks for telling us that, it might work for others, I have mentioned this in previous posts.

I never claimed DV to be Ignorant , Just stated it would be helpful .
and
Colorado is a Big state to travel thru , I don't believe it's illegal
for a passenger to vape . idk

With new laws being enacted , new situations may derive .
I hope All states and Provinces will go Legal and ease the
medical needs of All patients in whatever circumstance .
