Vapes on vapes on vapes!
So I just had my first session with the Ascent! I really like the functionality of it. The other issues aside it was a great session. I was able to get some clouds going with it when using the techniques in this thread. I packed it tighter than I would for other vapes and took nice slow sips. I thought the taste was quite good. I started off at 385 degrees and then went to 405 degrees. I didn't really notice the "new vape smell" or burnoff or whatever you want to call it. The ABV is a nice even light brown. I cut my session a little short because I was happy with the functionality.

I cleaned out the bowl after my session and cranked it back up to see if I would see any more gas. I did indeed see a small stream of it. It has been a few minutes and now the visible gas is gone. I'm confused, but satisfied.

"Honestly, I don't think the dark room + flashlight are really needed, as you can probably see under normal conditions, but let's minimize observational variables."

If someone looks at the unit (stealth in my case) with a light scource behind it........is the unit closed tight at the seal where it opens and closes? This ascent unit shows daylight at the seam.........so, no it seems not to be completely sealed which would explain the no vapor clouds. Just my guess as to non functioning units. The "gassing" seems to be less than at first, but the taste is "chemical" and the unit is packed and ready to be returned. I'll post the response from Organicix.

Mine shows light at the seam as well. Maybe thats why the draw seemed to be the same resistance no matter how hard I packed it.

Mine shows light on the clasp side, just slightly, but the seal in the middle doesn't let any light thru, can you see light all the way across or just near the clasp?

That makes sense, did you sniff the gas to see what it smelled like Pickz?

It should be quite easy to tell the difference!

I didn't, but I am not seeing any gas at the moment, so the educated guess would be that it was indeed herb residue. Do people who are seeing more gassing occur have it happening constantly when it's heated at max? Mine has been periodic which is why I am asking this.

Can people that have the mystery smoke issue please do the lid test? Does it make things a LOT worse, or about the same?

When I discovered the lids were doing that, the smoke was pretty damn obvious. But here a few people have indicated the mystery smoke is/can be hard to see unless in the exact right light conditions.

THANKS!

Like yours on the clasp side also though more than just slightly. At first I first I didn't think anything of it as it ends where the bowl seal starts but now I'm not so sure the seal is actually tight. My tightly packed bud was dark brown but no clouds. Air had to be leaking in somewhere and that seal is the only place I can think of at this point. Can't test it further until I get rid of the mystery vapor and that doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon.

Hey guys, we are here and we hear you.

As this forum is a proving ground for many vaporizers, we take each and every observation that this astute group brings forth very seriously. We want you to know that we are listening carefully to each comment and immediately moving that input to our development and QC teams. After six months of in-field beta testing, we didn't experience some of what you've shared here, but want to address it today.

Careful steps are taken to select the materials used to build all DaVinci products. Due to the design variances between the Ascent and DaVinci, completely different materials were used in the manufacturing of the bowls.

For the Ascent- The bowl is housed within a food-grade silicone to keep it in place, protect it, and keep the electronics away from the vapor path. The silicone is fully able to withstand very high heat levels. It may be possible that during initial use, some units are creating a vapor as a "curing" process. However, following in the tradition of skilled glass makers, great care is taken as each Ascent is hand-built in limited production runs to achieve a high level of craftsmanship. This level of hand-built craftsmanship may be causing a few units to produce a unique and limited occurrence. We are working with our technicians right now to replicate this and provide you with additional information as quickly as possible.

Please know that we love this industry and our fans and are dedicated to providing the best possible experience for you.

Taking extraordinary steps and knowing how dedicated our fans are, we will continue to listen to you and will provide to you a direct and open communication line to us to help address all of your concerns. If additional improvements are needed, we will make them.

In the interim, we're more than willing to resolve any problems directly with, I'll be prepping the CS team regarding this first thing in the morning, so feel free to shoot us a call at 702.966.9969 x 601 or even ask for me if you need more info.

[EDIT: THANKS FOR THE UPDATE!!!}

Some people have been "curing" for some time now. Any idea of either how many sessions or what temp might be best for this?

sam reynolds

because "Samantha" is a mouthful.
FYI: Take about 1" of 1/4" silicon tubing, roll the bottom 1/4 up on itself, and slide it onto the mouthpiece stem. Fits very well into the pinnacle WT, and is steady enough to pass around.

Also looks less silly than the GonG stem.

Another tip: I used a dremel to remove the bottom of one of our oil jars. Packed and tamped a bowl, then put the bottomless jar on top--the load stays in place.

I'm having great results with mine @Davinci_vaporizer . I have a great little glass bead that holds the packed load from getting sucked up against the screen. This has been my solution to this problem thus far but I think you guys should consider some sort of accessory to accomplish this that is proprietary to the ascent. Just my :2c:

RDIT: I did however suffer from some of the cosmetic issues some are complaining of. Loosely glued panels, the led screen blemish issue, and one of my oil cans has a crack along the edge (came that way).

I have also been loving my Ascent! I seem to have gotten past the curing process as I consistently am not seeing any gas when my Ascent is not loaded. I'll see if I can remove the bottom of one of my oil jars and use the technique that Sam mentioned.

Edit: If I am able to remove the bottom of the jar it would be nice because you could just directly load it and drop it in place.

I suggested this a handful of pages back. It'll work! I've tried an herb loaded can and it gets perfectly roasted just no vapor since u can't pull air through it. A few small holes in the bottom of the cans (like the screen) would work great as well and would eliminate the need for the glass bead I've been using.

I was unable to drill any holes in my oil jars. Any suggestions? I'm not that handy, but I do have some tools. Do I need a drill bit made to go through glass in order to do it?

Your safest bet would be a small power tool like a dremel with a tip for drilling glass, usually diamond tip.

Alright, sounds like I'll invest in a glass diamond bit. I managed to get a hole in one of my jars, but it's just one bigger hole. First, I tried using it with it loaded with the cap on an it didn't work well for me. I then tried it without the cap and it didn't work well either. Finally, I just loaded it like normal and used it as a spacer without the cap on and voila! It worked like a charm and I had a good session with no tapping down needed. I'll test it further tomorrow. I'm feeling good for now.

Ok. That's what I wondered. I'm sure it makes a better spacer than the bead I'm using . A glass frit in the shape of the bowl would make a great weight for the load and be a tighter screen to keep bits out of your mouth.

I was thinking that one of these would be great,

if it was oval instead of round and the right size.

I've also been having a good experience with my stealth. The only issue is the blemished LED cover, and the battery indicator running low during use and not showing the actual battery levels. For example, my battery will drop to zero during use, but actually have a third left, confirmed on reboot.

Would i be the FIRST in Aussie? me thinks i am thanks to Fed ex (then again i paid almost half the value of the Ascent for postage) Divinci said they would try to give me a discount on the postage because at time of ordering i only had ONE choice for postage, so i hope they come good on that promise?. Stealth unit on charge now for a while. It seems ok no scratches from what i can see and looks like the t shirt just might fit.!!:lol:
My thoughts so far. Have vaped for a few years now and have had and sold Silver Surfer, CERA, MFB. Still have the Extreme Q for larger crowds (which isn`t very often) and my favourite for quite a while is the Solo. Even though the Solo is a little harder on the draw it still has the best taste and hit and is very forgiving with different grinds or material. To me it has the most vapor to air mixture and thus the better taste and "clouds" if that is what you are after?. Back to the Ascent. The draw is extra easy and a slow draw is a must if you want to avoid any loose material into the mouth !I put some finer grinds in the bowl about half way up and lightly packed it. I originally put it on 190C which didn`t seem to be hot enough so cranked it up a bit more to 215C which seemed to produce more vapor. The draw and vapor i feel are very similar to the CERA maybe a touch more vapor with the ascent. Still getting used to it like all vaps. Still to try any oil. The bottom section outer casing got fairly warm after a few runs. Some "rubber" tasting came through on first couple of runs but feel sure will go once burned in. To be continued.

My Ascent has been performing great, but I feel that I end up going through my herb faster than I do with my EQ. I was hoping that the Ascent would be able to replace my EQ so I would just have one vape I could use for every thing. Not a huge deal... I'll still use my EQ or when I'm in the living room, and the Ascent for everything else (bedroom, outside, and going out and about.)

Anyone else feel like they are going through more herb? I'm guessing it's because of the conduction aspect and the process of coming up and down from the set temp when turning on and off is vaping off some of the herb.

What do you folks think about its efficiency?

Thats typical, most batteries will show less life during usage. Every mobile phone I've ever had that dies under use, would sgill have a little battery left to turn back on and run for a few.
