While everyone is going on about batteries...

Hopefully the Ascent 2.0 will have REMOVABLE batteries. And not just that. The device should work without the batteries entirely while plugged in and there should be a wire (~1ft) which connects the batteries to the vaporizer. This way you could keep them in your pocket (where it's a lot cooler) while still using it on the go. It's not a pretty solution to battery degradation, but as far as I can see the only thing that would help.
Next to no vape producers will read this post, but maybe you guys can help spread the message and help build a demand for removable, easily changeable batteries in all vaporizers. Just like with cell phones nowadays.

While we are on the ascent 2.0. I was wondering if the notch in the bowl is for oil jar use...why not just have a raised bottom on one side of the actual oil jar? Unless that little stub is not only for the oil jars and something is behind it. Also I am a little disappointed in the "vapor lock". It feels like an afterthought(which it is). When designing the vape they could have easily made the swivel lock internally. That being said I am still excited for the release!

Too many variables. Too many different types of battery chemistry; too much difference on how much current is being drawn; too much difference in how deeply the battery is discharged; too much difference in how much current is being used to charge the battery...

I seem to remember three years as typical lifetime of Lithium cells, but I have an original Macbook Air that's going on five or six years that still works on its original battery. Only gets about half the run time it did new though. On the other hand, we vapors beat the daylights out of our batteries, and I used to go through the 3V LiFePO4 Tenergy batteries like they were free. They were particularly sensitive to being deep discharged.

My only take on this is to treat your batteries well; don't discharge them too low, and don't try to charge them too rapidly. That, and try to avoid buying anything that doesn't have user replaceable batteries.

Good thought, but not a worry as I understand it. The key to making sound glazed ceramics is matching the ceramic to the glaze in this important area (thermal expansion). When the match is good (as it usually is) the two stay well locked together over a much wider temperature range in 'second firing' than they will ever see again. There they were heated (typically over days) to incandescence, something well never come remotely close to in service.

Some glazes are intentionally intended to develop excessive stresses in cooling down (poor matches) so they will crack and 'craze' internally for that look. The ones used here are apparently not of that class.....nor should they be I think?

A few thoughts:

Temperature - I agree with @OF [also testing out this @ tagging thing], but allow me to add that this has been discussed before (the original thread?) with @Hippie Dickie [so what does tagging do with spaces? I'm guessing: "Fail"] chiming in that it just is not an easy thing to do. I would tend to trust his statements here and just say go with OF's second suggestion about empirical observation of ABV.

Batteries -

• I have NOT confirmed the model
• They are NOT removable (due to liability issues), but it is MY PERSONAL OPINION it won't be hard to do so.
• For those wondering about the life, note that the original DaVincis are over a year old, and still going strong. (Of course usage patterns GREATLY affect batteries) But I have a feeling that, by the time the batteries expire, all of the people here would be full on to like 3 models later.
• The batteries are in the top chamber. Both the top and the bottom (where the oven is) not only have an outer-shell, but also an inner-shell. So the two chambers are relatively isolated from one another. The next greatest thermal-transfer would be the stem, but the silicone insulates those fairly well. So, for those of you that have laptops, those batteries most likely operate in higher temps, than in your Ascent.

Bowls with holes - WHile it is encouraging to see that such small holes could theoretically be make without damaging the integrity of the chamber, I suspect from what I know, that it just won't be as effective as the cotton solution.


I think there were a few more things I wanted to reply to, but I'm catching up on week+ posts, so I'm sure I forgot a few.


[EDIT: Clasp -- The clasp is there not only to prevent over rotation (which is more of an issue of upper-lower alignment), but also to prevent an airgap in the other orientation. Previously, with the hinge only, the base's vertical alignment is locked down on one side only. The clasp prevents separation on the other side. The old units, you may occasionally see a light gap. New ones not so much.]

Well I hope it performs as good as they say I need ti hit the hospital and I'm allowed to vape I my room but can't leave for quite some time when I get there , with a good vape and good meds ill make through the extremely painful and sickly treatments.which meds help me make it through and sustain my life.
It would be perfect I this situation it would be perfect and sine its so cool looking and diverse it would be so discrete and perfect for me.

The seal and clasp I hope help the Ascent perform even better then before the change if that's possible.
I hope the temps are accurate to the temp display.

I also hope that the highest temp will effectively vape oils .

I can't wait to use this vape.

When selecting herbs (non-MJ) for the ascent, which is a better version: a) powdered version or b) dried leaf version?

I dont own a single vape yet, so I am hoping you would share your experiences. Do you end up inhaling some of it in the powder form? Which one gives you a better experience in terms flavor, effect and dense cloud?

Leaf IMO. Ground up herb can get small enough to fit through the various DV screens

To those few that have an ascent (I don't think I've seen this covered), do you have to have the main power on for the ascent to charge like the OG davinci? And also is the heat up time even faster if its plugged in like the OG davinci?

There is no main power switch like the og-dv... haven't paid attention to heat up times plugged-in vs un-plugged though

If you do use powdered herbs...you better use cotton or you will be spitting it out lol

Its the power switch...but its not the 'main' one, its the only one.
The unit does not have to be powered on like the Orig.DV to get a charge and there is no procedure to turn it on either...its simplified

You can toggle the bowl on and off by using the settings button and the (+) for on...or the (-) for off, but I have not personally seen the use for this, but my guess is so you can program the settings without heating up your load...but there is no reason/advantage to just have the unit on for any other reason while not heating...seems like it would just waste battery life

Missing piece --- a good carrying case for the Ascent. Any recommendations on a good bag that can withstand the high temperature and prevent leakage of different odors?

My 2013 DV charges without the power on . I always thought the switch on the side was the power and the button was to engage and disengage the heater .

Thats my understanding as well...but with my dv, the switch on the side has to be in the 'on' position for the unit to charge.
As soon as you push the power button the ascent starts to heat up, like all the other portables I own...the original dv just seems a little less user friendly (but still a good vape)
...as far as cases for it go @novicevape alot of people are talking about the ryot case, it has odor absorbants in it, I got a $5 padded pouch from my local head shop and it works great and doesnt really leave a smell either, I also found a beltclip that would fit it at a local store for $.75 (cents not dollars)
Another thing...I would not waste the money for a grinder for herbs in the ascent, unless you have some appropriate cotton on hand to filter (just a warning)...unless you like spitting out chunks and it will get your stem dirty really fast and make people think you are a filthy person who doesnt know how to clean things...

This is one of the elephants in the room. Apparently the Ascent was delayed expressly because of this new seal which is supposed to help it produce thicker vapor. So where are the videos of the new improved Ascent? I can't be the only person who wants to see a demonstration before buying it. The new units have been sent to some reviewers it seems, but why aren't they uploading any videos?
How about a high quality video from Davinci? Surely the producer must have the newest unit standing around?
