Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I've been excited about the Ascent ever since the hype of it before it was released, so when a deal came to me for a new one for $130 I ordered it and I'm currently waiting on it in the mail. However, I'm disturbed about this silicone/plastic taste people report. If it's an "all-glass" airpath then there should be no silicone/plastic taste. I am super super anal about "all-glass" airpaths and that's one of the first things I check for when researching vaporizers.

So yeh, this sounds pretty messed up. I might just leave it in the box and sell it on ebay. If you're tasting it, some of it is going into your body. Even if resin covers/disguises it, it's still probably going into your body. Damn it sounds like they dun goofed.

I've used the Ascent daily for over 2 years and never had any sort of plastic /silicone /electrics taste from it, just fresh weed progressing to burnt popcorn. I'd maybe advise slow-burning a couple of ovens to start off without inhaling, maybe rinse the glass in ISO for that sterilisation satisfaction.... Honestly, I think your fears are ungrounded :peace:

My advice is don't sweat it, it's not a real issue if you do normal 'burn offs'. We're not stupid or suicidal or paid shills, we genuinely like it. Fear not.

Your assumption is also wrong. It basically is all glass, as you can plainly see by disassembling yours. Stuff outside the vapor path can contribute to that 'new oven smell' but that passes quickly. Some purists and nay sayers will insist otherwise no doubt, I just don't agree with them? Nor, I think, do the vast majority of fine folks that have pushed this thread to nearly 9000 posts, very very few of them saying 'this thing is a hopeless mess, avoid it'?

And if you decide it's not safe (with or without trying it) I seriously question selling it (or any other piece of gear you consider dangerous) to some innocent soul? I'm sure you don't what to 'buy someone else's problems'. That's your call too, of course, but my advice is to burn the fingerprints and junk out of it and give it a go, I seriously doubt you'll be disappointed.

"Try it, you'll like it", we really have no reason to lie........

I must be one of those purists then... Mine has a slight after-taste that became obvious only after I switched to other vapes. But experience has shown that I'm overly sensitive to silicone smell in general.

But I wouldn't say that the silicone is not in the vapor path. It's all around the bowl, it's holding the glass stem, and it's right under your nose on the buddy rim. It gets covered with oil pretty fast so it's definitely in contact with the vapor.

I would? Appropriate seals are used between glass pieces, but those are seals not significant plastics in the vapor path. For sure rubber around the bowl is of no interest here any more than the plastic case since the glazed bowl is the vapor path not what's on the other side of it?

When it comes to sensitivity of smell, I'm not questioning you smell better than me.

Is Solo accepted as 'an all glass vapor path? Yep, and it's got similar seals? In a way I guess it's semantics, the point is it's not made of plastic or metal?

And, as you say, any possible vapor escaping from exposed seals rapidly gets covered (sealed off like painting a wall with appropriate paint). Not a true passivation layer, but in our case just as effective I thihk.

And while silicone rubber itself isn't a health issue (it's the catalyst?) we are assured this is food grade and therefore safe at these temperatures as we define such things. Nothing to fear, IMO, and lots of other fine vapes to pick from.

Yeah..... I'm not gonna support something that says "all glass airpath" when the vapor path is literally touching something else than the ceramics. I don't care about if silicone itself is safe or not. It's not my desire to taste or even worry about that.

I usually don't come onto these forums to be negative but I'm salty from this -- getting hyped at getting a new one for $130 and not doing my diligent research before buying. I'm glad for those that enjoy their units though. I'm not here to talk shit and I still think the Ascent is a very cool vaporizer. Not for me though.

Been a fan of the ascent for a while. I've had one for about a year and a half and the silicon around the ceramic bowl has started to melt or otherwise recede for some reason. Has anyone else had this issue. I'm going to try & talk to DaVinci's customer service about it tomorrow. I don't want to stoke fears about the product as it's served me well & while this is an issue it took almost 18 months of 4-7 days a week of use before this became perceptible.

Could you possibly post a picture of the problem?

Silicone degradation will come from a lot of heat, cleaning and general use. This is covered under our warranty. Please contact customer service at customerservice@davincivaporizer.com and they will help sort you out! If you need anything else in the process please feel free to PM me.

I'm fed up with their customer service. I got an Ascent for my birthday back in April. I was initially impressed with the unit, although the bottom bowl portion of the unit didn't line up when closed. I figured it's just a minor manufacturing defect, so it didn't bother me. But two weeks later, the unit stopped letting me change temps during use, so I called Davinci, sent them copies of the receipt and video of the issue, and got an RMA.

May 13 - Shipped back at my expense.
May 16 - Davinci confirms it was received and turn around time is 7-10 days.
June 2 - I write asking about the status since it's very difficult to reach anyone by phone. They respond saying they just received it a week ago(?) and it will be fixed and ready to ship back the next day or early the following week.
June 8 - Write to them again. They apologize and say they can't fix it and will ship a new one out the following day.
June 13 - It's now a month later. I write again asking where it is. They apologize and say that they will have one shipped out by Wednesday.

Sorry if I seem like I'm whining, but over a month seems a bit long for a warranty replacement. It was a great portable vaporizer while it worked, but I've kind of given up on them at this point.

Actually I have the exact same time line as you. Shipped on the same day! I still not even sure if they actually received mine they just dodge the question saying it will be a "couple more days". I just want to know if they have it... This whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth. This has to be the worst I have been treated with customer service. This was my first time doing bussiness with DaVinci and it's going to be the last.

I sent my Stealth Ascent in for warranty repair. It got lost in the mail. They sent me a brand new Stealth.

Maybe ask them to throw in some spacers or a car charger to soften the blow of the process.

@Davinci_vaporizer can't you help? These stories do not help you to sell more units, just create ill will.

I've sent mine back for repairs quite a few times and always have it back in my hands no more than 1 to 1.5 weeks after they have received it. I'm surprised they told you they couldn't fix it and would ship a new one, as from what I've been told all they do now is swap all the internals with new guts. Miss those early days of getting a whole new retail set, but good for them getting that overhead down haha. They just received mine June 6th and told me on the 13th it was in its final days of testing. A bit surprised it hasn't shipped yet, but should be soon. I thought I was getting a little impatient after hearing that news, but a month though that's crazy!

I finally got it back! So I am pretty happy now. I might have been too harsh in that comment I was just mad that I haven't be able use this great vape in such a long time but besides the wait and the one or two vague answers I got ,their customer service is good in the sense they always got back to you and they did take care of my problem.

I finally got my replacement, too. The new one seems to be working well, so I'm happy again. I'm grateful that they shipped me a new one, but I just don't understand what the disconnect with customer service was. I wasn't able to get any acknowledgment from them last week, so I actually initiated a chargeback on Friday. Of course, the damn thing shows up on my doorstep the next day, so they must have shipped it earlier that week. I cancelled the chargeback, but it really never should have gotten to that point. DaVinci, you've got a great product, but please look into how you can improve customer relations.

I would suggest folks buying the Ascent through PUI. Great customer service. You only need to deal with them.

Will they take care of you 3+ years later with no questions asked like DV though? I don't know many vendors or manufacturers other than EVGA that take care of their customers like DV does. Im not 100% sure but it seems and sounds like if you buy direct Davinci is even more willing to have you covered.

My Ascent has started acting like the computer needs to be rebooted. The settings button no longer works like it is supposed to. The power button will not turn the unit off. Up and down temperature buttons cycle between F and C and the like. Is this thing done or has anyone found some way to factory reset the devices?

I think this delay has a name, stock issues
Not really sure whats going on at the moment, but that might be it. Its just strange one rep tells me the repairs were complete and stress testing is almost done. Then yesterday I get an email saying they will be shipping me a replacement device from Canada.

Probably going to have to sent it of to DV, sounds like there's a short in there or something. There's no factory resetting the Ascent.

Unless you want try the factory reset suggested by the maker:

Totally understand what you're saying but unfortunately there's no way to update the firmware in the Ascents currently out. In the future we will display it differently.

Hold all three buttons down for 7 seconds. There is no indication that it is reset, so to check that it was done properly you can look at the vapor cycle times and temps. They should all be reset back to 375 for 3 minutes. Your timer, and default temperature will also be set to factory settings as well.

Might end up going back of course, but there is a reset procedure available and IMO worth a try?
