So, twice now I've broken the upper glass stem, this time a chunk at the top (the lipped part). Instead of binning it, I filed down the broken edges, (gently, using the serrated part of a pliers - a nail file would do the job too. Rinse well - don't want to inhale powdered glass ) and simply flipped it over. Keep forgetting there's no lip anymore and push it back in too far when I'm finished a session but apart from that it works perfectly, at least until the replacement arrives.
