Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

3rd ascent on its way back due to not heating!
I feel your pain. I hope you have a back up non combustion method. I wonder if anyone else besides you and me have sent 3 back. I had two identical button failures and a failure of the power receptacle hole.
DaVinci simplified the return process for me as a result of my rapid fire failure of three units and to improve my experience with customer service. They really are very easy about taking returns. Again, I view this more as a lease. And I have leased two of them.
What do you mean about not heating?
Did they mention replacing or repairing your unit?
What sort of shipping and where are you?
How long before you get the use of your Ascent back?

Very true, the glass flowers are a much bigger pain to load, and they work great for packing smaller loads.

But if you want quick and easy micro size loads (0.025g), the glass jars are the way to go - I don't think you could pack as little herb as that with glass flowers alone

Note, I've been using my 3D printed tamping tool to tamp down the herb in my Ascent - the results have been awesome! Paired with my 14mm GONG as an adapter, I get more hits than I can count! (Note I am tamping down pretty hard, the draw restriction is noticeable at first, but quickly opens up after the second or third draw
I'll have to try the micro loads you describe. About how long or how many hits do you work such a small load?

Have no problem with their customer service, it's usually about a 2-3 week wait I think as I'm in uk. So far they have always replaced with brand new and I'm sure that's what will happen this time. By not heating I mean it doesn't heat?

I'd try a very small load under the included concentrate glass jar, vapor performance has been pretty impressive for the little amount of herb used

Indeed!
I use only the glass jar. The jar is pressed down on perhaps .2g; my cheap scale is likely inaccurate and others claim success with much less weight.
Put your material in the bowl and use the glass jar to compact the load.
When I swing the bowl closed, I like to have the rim of the glass jar slightly above the top plane, and press down while closing.
Just enough to create slight pressure on the load when closed. Any less material and the glass jar is free to move up/down in the bowl.
As the material cooks, open and press down on the bowl if needed.

Here pictured without compaction and with jar before compaction.

Just before closing and a similar load, compacted under a screen. Glass works better.

See this is the shit that I love! I appreciate everyone's input and I look forward to giving this a go once I get home. I honestly wish I was as innovative and smart as some of you guys (and girls).

Do you ever have an issue getting the compartment back open Ganga?

Yes! Yes I have. One can feel the glass jar-rim stuck to the Ascent upper body.
I've developed the habit of opening the bowl and dumping the glass out before it cools.
I can wipe the hot/warm glass-outside pretty clean with paper towel. I wonder how much resin can be collected on the inside.
Sometimes I also wipe the filter stem face when it is warm.

This 'deep purple' strain tastes .... I guess that is the taste of purple. I prefer the taste of yellow, or maybe orange.

The Stealth (which I have) is definitely all black. According to this page: http://www.davincivaporizer.com/ascent-vaporizer-by-davinci-carbon-fiber-bundle/, "... the carbon fiber print compliments the gun metal grey brushed aluminum sides ..." No green mentioned. Hope that helps. :)
The sides of the carbon fiber are a slight olive tint.

Yes! I say fix your air leak (or use the GonG or Ed's wood), get @Ratchett's excellent tamping tool, pack hard and make sure all 4 bowl holes are completely covered, and you don't need any glass fillers.

For some strains/grind/moisture you might need to repack mid-session, but that's all. Just don't shake the device too much when you use it.

4 returned......I guess this will not be my last return. Talk about patience.

I think we must have evidence of variations in the colors given to the Carbon Fiber Ascents. I have used several light sources and to my eyes my Carbon Fiber has dark gray side panels. I presume the olive colored panels have a green tint?

For my curiosity, what were the symptoms of your 4 Ascent failures and how long have they lasted before failure. Edit: What series 1Axx or 2Axx, and did you ever open your unit past 90 degrees ?
edit: @KeroZen I rarely if ever opened my units past 90 degrees. All mine were 2A xx series, bought in April or shipped in early May. None of mine have sealing problems. Two with button malfunctions and one with charging receptacle failure.

...and the mandatory question: did you open the bowl over 90° when filling/cleaning them? 1Axx or 2Axx devices?

Is that an extra screen at the bottom of your bowl? My Ascent (from MassDrop) arrives today. I have a 14mm GonG and some glass flowers. I am planning to use both for its maiden voyage.

I am wondering if I should use a screen at the bottom of the oven too?

Can the GonG replace both glass pieces if I put a screen on the bottom of the tube, like is done with Ed's stems?

You will use just the Eds Wong, you don't need the glass too. You use either the glass GonG, original glass mouthpieces or an Eds wood piece. You can use the screen as shown in previous pages back. I use a bit of cotton on top of my herb. I'm not using the screen. Whatever way that you like and what works for you.

Hey all, check out my latest 3D creation. Currently trying to print and get a proper fit (getting really close!). It's a wall mounted charging dock (hole in the bottom to hold the charging cable)

Hopefully I can get this model finalized and uploaded to my etsy store sometime soon

I always open mine all the way. It seems more convenient to prop up when loading. I am somewhat careful with doing it though. I just don't yank it forcefully. It's made to be able to open all the way if it breaks it's defective and I'll send it back. There's no excuse for it breaking when opening it all the way. If it wasn't supposed to open like that it should have been designed to only open half way.

Pretty cool. You might consider a Solo version next? There's a LOT more Solo owners......

Not to second guess an Hombre or anything, but how about putting the screw hole under the cup and extending a couple of tails with a wide gap between a couple more inches down for stability. Then you could use a longer screw to mount it over a standard duplex power outlet (covering the top outlet, but letting you plug the charger into the lower outlet for power and stability.

...

In the picture I posted, you see a screen on top of a packed load, trying to keep material from flying up.
It is a brass screen that I shaped a bit like a boat.

A screen on top of the load seems to be a good idea. Seems to be an alternative to putting cotton on top which others have suggested.

I am thinking that Ed's stems with a screen on the bottom of the lower tube seems like a nice idea compared to the glass tubes and a screen on top of the load.

My Ascent arrived. Directions say that the initial charge can take up to 5 hours! I hope its ready for an after dinner test.

Can I do some initial burn-offs while the unit is doing its first charge?

My latest delivered Ascent was about 80% charged. Within an hour, as the indicator stops blinking, I started the silicone taste cook off. You can use it immediately, but the silicone taste will be present for 4-6 runs.

There is indeed no excuse but @Davinci_vaporizer acknowledged the problem at the end of february (post #4988 on page #200) Before that all devices had potentially the issue (and early 2Axx devices were already being sold when they made that post, so it's clear that all 1Axx have it and some early 2Axx might have it too)

The problem is mechanical and causes electrical wires either to break or unsolder, the more you twist the bowl open, the more strain it creates on the wires. It's as simple as that, no voodoo involved.

My davinci had finally bit the dust on me.

Last night it turned off mid-use, and would only fire up when it was plugged in, but once it charged it wouldn't turn on at all.

I wonder if it got bumped and unseated the battery or something, just perplexing to me.

All I was getting at is that if the bowl shouldn't be opened up more than 1/4 of the way, it should have had a stop on it. Since it doesn't, if it breaks or pulls the solder apart it is considered to be defective engineering. No voodoo there.

Try pushing the on/off button and the decrease button at the same time . I got mine to turn on that way with the button malfunctions. Maybe you can get a few last hits before you ship it back .

When using a 14 mm glass or ed's stem do you remove the inner stem/screen and add a stainless steel screen into the rubber bottom?

Based on my limited use the weak link of the Ascent seems to be the glass inner stem/screen. It gets pretty yucky pretty quickly. Seems like a stainless screen and straight stem would work better and be easier to clean.

I own the Ascent 14 mm glass stem which I shortened by about an inch so that it would protrude less out of the top. I am just not sure if it should be used with the glass inner stem or just a screen added to the bottom.

If the glass stem lets me remove the inner stem then I may eventually move to Ed's wooden stem so the whole set up is sturdier.

Thoughts?
