First the good stuff. When I bought my backup Ascent from Davinci, they gave me a really usefull RYOT Smell Safe stash bag for the unit. Featuring charcoal odor control and sealed zippers, in a heatproof and moisture protected bag. Imagine cruising with blue lights cutting on behind you. Where else to put your unit besides this clever and well thought gift from Davinci?
I bought the car power cord for the Ascent.
The cord is tightly coiled and reaches no further than 20". The plug is to short and is partially blocked by the Vette grill. Every time you pick up the Ascent, the plug falls out.
I am hoping I can find its package and return it.
I have an inverter in my car and I will use the wall power cord instead.

I have commented a few times about the car charger for the Ascent. It's too hard to use plugged in, the cord is way too short. I don't know why they made it that way? I guess they don't want the driver to be vaping and driving. You really can just charge the unit. It too bad they haven't fixed that problem.

If you want to use the car charger plugged in, it's not going to happen.

I received one of the carbon packrat bags with my ascent. I don't think it will be completely odor free, at least not with mine. The zipper wasn't seen in correctly at the end so when I zip it closed it has a big gap that doesn't close. I guess it would do the trick for just plain odor protection, but not saving anyone from any sniffing dogs.

Is the ryot headcase a hard case? I forgot to pick it up when I was at the shop today. Darn.

I agree that this will fool a cop's nose but not his mutt. Its a really nice device in which you can stash the Ascent without the smell and heat being an issue.
I can't close mine totally but the 1/4" gap is good for a charging cord.
@Propaganja It is a soft case. It has a nice zippered interior compartment that I store my filled glass jars in. It is worth getting

I'm pretty sure that the only odor proof part of the Ryot cases are actually the little zippered pocket on the inside. Its meant to hide your stash in and it's lined with some kind of shiny smell proof material inside. I don't think the whole thing is supposed to be smell proof. I could be wrong though.

I am guessing you don't have one on hand. As the unusual zipper of the case is clearly designed to seal the whole case.....with the exception of the last 1.4 inch.

While we're on this subject, what is an ideal carrying case for the Ascent? Something that's a good size, offers some protection, helps with the smell, & can take the heat. Any links would be nice.

That last post was supposed to read "1/4" inch gap at the end of the sealed zipper.
I give this product a buy rating based on utility. It works perfectly for me.

Good to see balancing arguments for functioning units, I still don't believe the should be so inconsistent in faults.
Part of how good a product is is being able to tell how long it will last, even if it's only a year if you know when shit might hit the fan it's not as inconvenienceing if that's a word. But in my experience these things can just give out anytime leaving much space for hassle.

I got a replacement on the way for one with a broken display, looks like it's gonna be another £20 handling charge from US Pieces of Shit international.

I now think that the only true problem with the way their company is functioning is their courier, everything else aside the most annoying part of receiving these replacements is paying the charge cause they wanna ransom it like we owe them something, I'll tell you now I don't owe them shit and they can fuck compensation for holding my shit without cause when everyone else just delivers it without asking for more

My Ascent came in a couple weeks ago. I've charged it a total of 3 times and yesterday during use, the + button pushed in and stayed in. The temp climbed all the way up and I was not able to power off for 5-10 minutes. It seemed that while one button was active, the other buttons were not able to recognize anything. I was able to get the power off after so many minutes. After letting the device cool, it seemed the button was still pressed in, but when I turned the power button back on, the button pressed out.

Now the + button will function, but sluggishly. It does not have the quick click of the - button that it once had. It will click, but its slower to re-click and eventually gets sluggish. If it sticks, I can press the power button to make it click back out.

I have the 2AA1 and was pretty pleased with it. I've been lurking the 2 ascent threads over the past year+ (the pre-release thread and this thread).

The burn-in smell was terrible but mostly passed after 1 day of burn-in and use. I can still smell the smell if I stick my nose up to the material.

Vapor production is on par with this type of device. People get hung up on seeing clouds or milking, but its a portable vapor device. I'm pretty sure - more heat, more vapor to the point where it becomes smoke and is cloudy - its Science :D The actual "key" to vapor production is air-flow + heat. I've not needed any beads or non-flower substance in the bowl. The Ascent uses "long wave infrared heating...to deeply penetrate..." so no need to grind your product into dust or anything. I just pinch and drop in. Check product when done - its heated evenly and thoroughly through for me.

I'll be sending this back and hoping to get something not broken from them (Its why I waited a year to start with). I'm still using my $220 Vapro - 11+ years of mulit-daily use with "moisture-conditioned" bubbler, road trips and camping.

The medium and large size have belt loops. The small size that Davenci sent me does not have the loop and fits the Ascent perfectly. I wish it had a loop. There is only the zipper pull. I would wager to say that if you used this pouch regularly, the protection it offers the fragile buttons on the Ascent would provide the payback.

I think the buttons are the Achilles heel of the device. Protect them and the unit will last.
I agree, a lot of my customer service issues involve poor shipping and handling. I am sure having to pay so much for international shipping shoves it further up the rear. Glad to listen brother, I understand.
Your insight into the long wave infared heating is interesting and backed up by experience.
While particle size of the herb probably does not make a significant difference in the total extraction of medicine, increased surface area of smaller particles do make for rapid vaporization when in contact with the glass oven walls. I would think that the initial rate of vaporization is greater with a finer blend, as well as more glass screen contamination. I do not use glass flowers but have found the glass jar useful for keeping the glass screen clean.
I enjoy placing a small amount of powdered herb in the open oven and taking a vapor nose hit, like we used to do to after flaming roaches.

Making my first tincture with abv from ascent. Let you guys know how it goes. Also threw a little normal bud in there but forgot to decarboxylate it. Using Bacardi 151.

I hope you don't use the glass flowers? They get hot and break off, you don't want bits of glass in your ABV. I don't save my ABV that I get with the Ascent. Just a word of caution. I'm sure you strain it, but still you wouldn't want tiny pieces of glass in anything you're ingesting. Take care of yourself.:peace::leaf:

Hmmm - I've never tried that. I guess as long as there's sufficient airflow. Anyone else tried not-grinding with the Ascent? I may have to give it a whirl and see how it works. You're right about the even heating though -- While I do grind, I don't stir between sessions (just press the 'puck' back down) and yet it does seem to be an even color all the way through when it's spent, confirming the even and penetrating heat.

So, my new ascent has come in. I'm doing the burn ins still even though it's 4 days later. First thing I noticed wrong was that the settings button sticks badly. I can rarely double click it. If I press your settings button it just sticks and changes back and forth from Celsius and Fahrenheit.

I really can't believe such a pricey device, that's sold over 4,000 units, can still have so many problems like it has. It's pretty disappointing.

Yup. IMO it works, but not nearly as well.

I did a series of experiments (that led to the glass flowers idea) a while back when Nigel so kindly loaned me his 'spare Ascent'. I convinced myself that IR heating is BS (which it would be if you recall your Thermodynamics.......it works best when there's a large temperature difference (we have none basically) and when 'the heat load' is small (and we have a big one, making vapor). The measurements said the temperature was highest at idle (just before the hit) and only drops through the hit (which is why the heat stored in the glass flowers and transferred by convection through the load works).

By I means try it for yourself, but I tried to be very careful with the experiments (since the results were so unexpected) and repeated the key ones.

My conclusion was the key to more production lies in more mass and surface in the load (grind), giving it time between hits for the heat to recover (even a full minute) and storing as much heat as possible throughout the load to support the upcoming hit (I found flowers best here, there are other options, but glass is preferred and maximum surface area useful.

Naw, as no less an authority than Doctor Johnny Fever said, "everyone is out to get you, paranoia is just good thinking....". I don't consider this paranoia as much as 'reasonable concern'. And easily remedied. Just filter the tincture through some coffee filter paper. Let it drip through, the flush the good stuff out of the paper with a little fresh Rum and you're clean as can be.
