Wipe down with iso and do burn offs with empty unit and take glass out.. crank it up high and do 10 min burn offs till you stop seeing smoke. Then iso again. @Particle yes those are the glass screens people are using..sure u just want 5? they sell larger amounts.

Thanks Reflections for the advices. I could somehow cancel my order. Is there another better offer elsewhere? If anyone knows, it would be a great help.

Osn Dosn, I am from Europe and I ordered it directly from the official website.

Good ongoing discussions of how to run less than full bowls. I fiddled some when Nigel loaned me his using to try some time back (tests that led to the glass flower idea). I decided that the key to solid production was contact with hot stuff, in Ascent that means with the walls, not bottom, of the bowl. That's where the hot is. Granted, everything inside is supposed to reach full temperature eventually but fastest heat transfer (best production) will happen with maximum contact with the walls, not the bottom.

I think the idea spacer would be one that fills the center (not top) of the bowl. I'm thinking something with a few ribs molded in to provide centering and stand off from the walls (providing space for the ground bud of course) made of glass or glazed ceramic to preserve the 'all glass' part?

Perhaps one of these fine days I'll buy one of my own to experiment with, but for now all I can do is lurk and stick my nose in from time to time.

Yea well, that's one possibility, but thought I could avoid the shipping costs and customs.. and there was a tiny hope to vape some christmas trees

A spacer in the middle would help with heat distribution but you still need something (cotton) to prevent herb from sucking up into the screen.
I've been using cotton on top with glass flowers lower in the load acting as a heat sink.
That works fine but a spacer like you described which is designed for the oval bowl would be nicer and I think DaVinci is working on that project to add to their product line.

I'm sorry, I'm not being clear enough. I'm suggesting a spacer sized so you fill what's left of the bowl to the top. Perhaps a series of a few, taking say 25, 50 and 75% of the volume? You'd use the one that suits the load size you want?

I guess I'm getting confused with the word "spacer".
You would put this spacer on top of the load to keep it in place.
That would make sense and is what I would like to have...the cotton works but a glass spacer would be more convenient, easier to clean and just more professional.
I would probably be happy with one size as I like to pack fairly large loads.

Sigh.....the problems of the middle class.

I was under the impression that the spacer is only needed for those who want to pack smaller loads. The ascent has a larger bowl and people use a spacer for small loads.

You can find glass flowers at Amazon and EBay very cheap. There are different types, flat, square, jacks, and honeycomb screens. You can also use cotton. There is a thread here about using cotton. I just recieved my Ascent yesterday so I have no idea which works best, good luck. Also my Ascent came charged. I did a burn in at 400+ for about an hour and noticed that new cooked smell slowly fading, damn that rubber they use sure does stink. I'm sure that will fade also. I had no visible off gassing and I believe after I use the Ascent a few times the odor will go away. I've noticed after leaving it out of the package last night the odors are not as strong. I don't think the odor will be a problem. I've just started experimenting with the unit so I have no other advice or suggestions.

Question for you. If you pack a normal load in it, is the spacer still needed?

You would put this spacer on top of the load to keep it in place.

Actually I was suggesting taking the extra space out of the center of the load, put a full length plug in the bowl with the bud around it in contact with the heated walls (rather than pressed onto a cold bottom).

I was under the impression that the spacer is only needed for those who want to pack smaller loads. The ascent has a larger bowl and people use a spacer for small loads.

That was the original idea, but I think putting some flowers in the load actually increases the output over a full bowl of bud, at least in some cases. The extra mass of hot glass provides ready heat energy for the bud to keep producing vapor after cold air is pulled in. Without them I measured drops over 100F in the center of the load, that part of the load (in the center) could not possibly be still producing useful vapor under 300F.

IMO it's worth experimenting with.

I just recieved my Ascent yesterday so I haven't had much time with it. I haven't tried a full load yet. I imagine that if you pack a normal/full load you will not have any room for a spacer. People do mix glass flowers in with their loads to help with heat exchange and to completely fill the chamber, keeping it packed.

My friends call me "Menz"
hello all... i have a question and an observation for the group about my Ascent that i have had for some time now. Just to catch anyone up... i am a customer who got v1.0 unit during initial shipment of pre-orders, was RMA #6 and got my replacement awhile ago....

First my observation..... i noticed the other day after running my Ascent for the day that it was getting close to dying and needed a recharge. i had finished a personal vape session (3 timed settings) a little while before and new if i ran it at 430 that i could get some more tokes out of it. so i fired it up and set it for 430 and watched it climb. it hit 430 and i took 2 tokes and saw the temp lowering. i thought "that sucks" as i was in my car with no access to the charger. i knew i still had some material to extract. i fired it up to 430 again. it climbed and hit 430 and this time i took one toke and it started decreasing in temp. so just for S&G's sake i fired it up again but set it to 425 this time. and here is the strange part.... @Davinci_vaporizer i hope you read this..... i watched it climb to 425 and this time it hit 425 and stayed on... it stayed on so long i finished the extraction of what i had left (a good 5 to 6 min of toking) and had to MANUALLY turn it off myself. so at 430 it wouldnt stay on longer than a 30 seconds but at 425 it stayed on for over 5 min?????

now for my question...... i hate to admit it but i have not cleaned the bowl of the Ascent since i got it (i have cleaned the other glass) and now its really brown. q-tips soaked in ISO do not clean it at all. the resin is pretty "caked" on and i am not sure how i can clean it since this part obviously can't be soaked. anyone have any ideas for me on trying to get it somewhat clean again??

Of no particular interest
i find when I don't have something to weight the herb down, it gets sucked into the stem and doesn't stay on the bottom of the bowl and doesn't work well to cook the herb. For me ! need something to weigh the herb down.:peace::)

I guess my obvious questions would be, how fine of a grind do you use and also, how "much" is it been packed?

Of course everyone's mileage will vary but what I find is that once initially heated, the contents remain fairly stable.

Also, although it was previously unrelated, another "mod" I've made is to roll up a pipe screen around a large paperclip's wire and then trimmed off about 1/8th of the pipe screen before rolling it in to finish. I don't know the size of the screen exactly but I do know it is the smallest diameter commonly available.

Anyhoo, I then took the lower pipe stem and inserted the rolled pipe screen into the stem until it was partially exposed to the space where the stem flares out at its entrance.

I've had that there for the past two days and I've put 4 micro-loads through it during that time and the screen doesn't show any signs of having come in contact with any plant matter.

Of course there are a bazillion variables that could lead to the different results we are respectively seeing but I don't think it would take much to experimentally drill down to find out the actual cause(s) and in so doing, possibly come up with our having learned something new.

What good are toys if one can't experiment with them?

Are you game?

Hello, new user here, freshly ordered the Ascent, should receive it within days, and was wondering on the very first things to do for a virgin Ascent so it works properly in the future?

As mentioned, throw it on the charger. I got mine recently and I think it only needed to charge 30 minutes or so to reach a full charge.

Also, consensous suggests that it is a good idea to "burn in" the unit without any material in the oven as well.

I don't think seeing actual vapor is a common problem anymore but there still seems to be a "smell" about it when it is new and fired up for the first time. The smell has been described different ways and I won't even try to describe it but to say, you will know when it's gone.

The oven is a heating unit. It should get hot. About all one should smell is the smell of something hot.

I started with the oven rotated to is 180 position and ramped up the temp over about a 10 minute period checking for anything amiss or odd smells. Each step I'd wait until whatever I was smelling, in this case, had noticeably diminished. I ran it for about another 20 minutes at 430, turned it off to let it cool down and then ramped it up again to see if there were any remaining smells and then let it burn in for another 30 minutes or so for good measure.

As with most anecdotal based advice, your mileage may vary.

If we clean the heating chamber/bowl with alcohol how do we rinse it off with water? Are we allowed to rinse it off? Or any full steps on cleaning would be nice?

I'd say the alcohol would evaporate off very quickly... even at room temp. Just run it with an empty bowl first to be sure.

I don't think putting the bowl under running water is a good idea. Electronics and water don't mix well.

Or just swab it out after with a wet (water) Q-Tip.
