Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I STILL haven't received my replacement, so I'm asking those that have. If the oil cans had holes in the bottom, could it be used as a small herb camber and install upside down?

The problem is the space inside the oil can would have to be full of flowers for it to perform better than without. that really only takes away .2, you'd still need like 0.6 to fill it.

Ideally you are trying to weigh the load down, and keep it on the bottom. this wouldnt have that effect. foil, glass screens, cotton, all work to keep the load on the bottom of the bowl and not fly up. As soon as the load moves it tends to fly up in bits, then the vapor becomes thin and weak.

Didn't realize the can was that big.

You can go to walmart in the hobby section and buy glass beads of all shapes and forms...or any hobby store that sales arts and crafts... also if not sure you can put in a pan and put it in the oven set high..to make sure it can take the temp... :)

What are dimensions of chamber?

Cut down oil can with holes?

First Impressions (Part Deux)

Hello again. Sorry I took so long. I'm going to have to play around with this thing for a few more days before I can give an honest review/critique but here goes the next episode.

But here's some pictures that were requested. In this one, I can't tell how much I packed in there but it was very very minimal as you can tell; just enough to cover the bottom. I turned it up to 375.

I've discovered I like to give it a good 20-30 sec between pulls. At the higher temps 400+, I got a good bit of visible vapor despite the small load size.

Here is my Oregano...

I noticed it vaporized very evenly throughout.
NOTE: The reason its so messy at towards the top was because I was tossing it out when I realized I needed to take a picture.

The particles at the top. Very easy to clean I noticed.

This is just to demonstrate how quickly it starts up from a complete cold start.

Okay, that's it... I'll save it for later to give any other assertions I may have but everything considered I'm loving this new vape. It's smooth, easy to use, easy to clean, quick, and discreet. It puts out plenty of vapor and cooks evenly under imperfect conditions (ie. not filled up hardly). Coming from a frequent cougher this really eases my throat and I haven't coughed yet. Definitely what I was looking for. Kudos to all those that helped make this happen.

I took your advice and went to walmart and got a bunch of glass beads. took them home and washed them in iso, then hot water and dried them off.

loaded them into the ascent for a test run, and no off-gassing, so it seemed promising.
glass is glass, and should be ideal. having said this I loaded up a .1 with a bunch of glass beads on top and the flavor was off.

the vapor density was OK but not great. hit it a bunch of times, it was not great. Then I replaced the glass beads with my foil ridge and the clouds came flowing in. flavor came back. odd. glass should be a cleaner taste, but its not.

So i'm not sure how you guys are putting glass in but my foil is wedged in and keeps the load still.

the glass beads move around and eventually so does the load. this makes for worse performance and taste.

I standby my original statement that an ELB like drop-in bowl would be ideal.

Side note:
If I were to redesign the entire thing (not really possible I know), I'd think about if the bowl was bottom loading, and inverted, the load would hit the heater as its being pulled up, instead of being pulled off of it. it would work way better.

seriously if it was comfortable to put your lips on the bottom grill you could get so much more vapor out of it. its just bad design imo. blow through the straw, thick vapor comes out the bottom, suck through the straw its thinner vapor. the heater/bowl should be inverted.

Why not just keep it full? A full load last for a long time with consistent vapor with mine. I even turn it off, draw until there's no more vapor, then start again whenever I want. I don't see a need to keep changing out the product. I'll start at 380 and work up to 410 and its like I'm us in a desktop. If I can hold down the paranoia, I'll make a vid of it lol

Are you using the programmable function? If you don't move it a while it turns off but I've never had mine turn off just by itself. This is a new one right?

I don't know about all of you guys but, my replacement ascent just bellows vapor! I'm talking good desktop territory! I use the same method I always have. .2-ish, good pack, one glass bead on top. It milks my pinnacle wt way better than my pinnacle pro even. I've been impressed since my first ascent but this replacement is even better! Props to the folks over at davinci!

Any chance of vids or pics? Stealth, Gator, or Wood burl? Thanks!

Flower Potted, Maxed, & Rio'd.
Got to try those glass flowers for the fist time in my Ascent last night.

After using the new v.2 Burl with a full bowl a few nights ago to compare with v.1, I loaded a bowl with (4) glass flowers and found I used less than half the amount without the flowers. I'm pretty sure I got even more clouds with the added glass and the way it distributes the heat.

I find them more of a pain in the ass to load than unload (obviously):), since the flowers are so small they are hard to handle and insert exactly how I want them without a bit of effort.

That being said, I like them but I hope DaVinci comes out with their Sombrero or whatever they decide to create as a good spacer. It would be nice if they came out with a few different sized spacers to accommodate different load sizes, depending on our moods, number of users or availability of herb. I know some of us like to use our herb sparingly.

I'm of the same mind as VaPeD&CoNfUsEd...as much as I liked the original model Ascent (I know I was in the minority as many had problems with theirs), this new and improved model heats up faster, hits great with clouds at lower temps, and the battery lasts a lot longer.

Kudos Davinci...glad you listened to input from us and others and solved the problems your were experiencing.

Always in a state of confusion and silliness♀
The sombrero should have pokers like the flowers as you all said it makes the air flow better and makes the abv more even..........just saying. It should also have a little piece on top to grab to take it out.

Glad you got good results as well, thus far I think everyone who's reported trying reported success? Thanks for the report.

I agree, loading is a PTIA. I too went nuts trying to get them to 'lie right' in the bottom. Then I realized it didn't really matter. As a couple of others have reported here, you can 'shovel' some in, load the bud then poke the last few stem down through the load like they were thumbtacks. Much easier of you don't care about the first half and have excellent access for the last few.

It'll be fun to see what the maker comes up with. After some thought, I came back to the flower idea again. It's easy to take up space (cotton does that) and fairly easy to increase the thermal mass (a big lump of glass like a bead does this well and easily) but to also increase the surface area of hot glass in contact with the herb is not easy.....but it's important I think.

Think about what I saw in the measurements I reported of actual load temperatures in use. The load is hottest just before the hit. As soon as the hit starts, the area not in contact with the hot walls drops as much as 100F (or even a bit more), clearly that part will have stopped producing vapor until the hit stops and there's enough time for the heat to recover again. Very different that happens in some vapes.

This also explains why time between hits is needed to recover I think. Bottom like is bigger production from smaller loads (nothing magic, we're just able to extract at a higher rate).

Has anyone tried glass screen jacks. It looks like they would give you contact to the hot bottom and expose more surface to the load than other configurations.
Just wondering......no Ascent yet, but should I come up with a little midnight madness I'll give them a try. They also look easier to grab.

Another reason to put in a larger pack. The temp doesn't fall off as you described. I can take a draw and then another as soon as I exhale.

I disagree, that's not what I measured. A full, hard packing of just bud drops like a rock. No local heat energy to replace the heat used making vapor. And takes well over half a minute to recover.

It absolutely does fall like I described.....which is why I described it that way. Did you read my test reports?

More is better than less, no doubt, but I suggest you try the flowers? They really are better I think.

Our units must vary greatly then cause I've been on the same bowl the entire episode of gadget. Lol
And taking hits every 10 seconds about (I hold it in for about that long I think)

I'll try to get a vid out when my stuff is all charged again.

I'm hoping its just miscommunication that the units vary that much in ability.

So I just received the new charger that was suppose to fix my problem. But the new charger doesn't work either. So that means my Ascent v. 1.2 has a busted charging port. I was willing to completely ignore the air leak that happens when I don't extend the stem, but now that I've run the battery down (2 and a half days, wow!) it's a brick.

I really hoped this new batch of units was going to be flawless after the disaster of the first release. So far, this make 5 attempts at DaVinci products, and all had problems. Went through 3 OG DaVinci's, and just gave up trying to get a working one that did not off-gas and had a working battery indicator.

I don't want to give up on the Ascent yet. Even though it requires additional engineering and addons on the part of the consumer just to get it to work properly (which is a huge flaw by any industries standards, btw), once that's done it works amazingly well, and the battery life is simply unbelievable. It's upsetting I had to pay to ship the first unit back, and will most likely have to again. All that does is increase the cost of the product. And no consumer should have to pay extra than the advertised price (multiple times) in order to get the product as advertised.

Very upsetting so far.
