Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I had 4 DV's replaced due to different reasons. I think I spent about $100 dollars shipping them back. My experience with their original product is why I held off on the Ascent.
Same here, on my 3rd since January, hopefully this one is going to stay functioning (have had it for 4 months). The Ascent off gassing was also experienced in the Da Vinci. The manufacturer has taken care of me to my satisfaction and I suspect they will take care of the Ascent buyers/problems similarly. I will purchase an Ascent when the speed bumps have been ironed out, but not now. Am strongly considering the Solo but am not sure where to purchase it, I want the latest model and I suspect the low priced ones on ebay are not the latest model.

I just received my money back on my Ascent return...I knew they would honor the return and that it might take a little time because of all the shit they're dealing with right now. Hopefully they can take care of this off-gassing issue and some other QC issues, because i'd happily get another ascent when the kinks are all worked out.

I don't understand how there could so many software problems on these vapes.
The five year old PC that I'm typing on is a thousand times more complex than these little things
yet is pretty reliable.

My stealth is still working good. The Pax has become "hers" and the Ascent has become mine. I've been experimenting with load size, spacers, temps, etc. and I think I'm getting good results. Before I was packing the living hell out of the bowl, which produces good clouds, gets me where I need to be, and makes it so I don't have to re-load throughout the day (and for long car trips). But boy does it go through herb fast that way.

Recently, I've messed with cotton or a glass marble as a spacer, to keep the load tight at the bottom (and the nice side effect of keeping the glass stems a little cleaner too). Both work well, and I think I prefer the organic cotton over the marble, since I can adjust the amount of cotton but the marble is a fixed size.

I've been going with 375, then 400, then finishing at 430. So far, I'm happy with it... Though all the other QC issues others are having does concern me. While I experience no noticeable off-gas, my panels are all perfect, the seals are fine, etc. my only current complaint is that the digital gauges seem to be off like others have mentioned. When I increase from 375 to 400, it doesn't even show it's heating, but just pops up to 400 right away. And, yes, it does seem to get too hot and start to shut itself down, which can be stopped and restarted with a reboot, but it is annoying. And the battery gauge will show full, then half, then if you turn it off and back on, it will be 3/4. It's just not accurate enough. I have a strong feeling that it could show almost dead and still run another hour. I don't like that.

I do seem to be suffering from VAS as I now too want to grab the Pinnacle Pro and play with it. I so do NOT need another vape right now, but if the Pax freaks out again (have sent it back to Ploom 3x) or this Ascent starts with issues, then I've got problems.

My main needs are (in order of importance to me):
1. Portability and stealth (travel a lot), this includes size, ease of use, bowl size, loading easily while driving, etc
2. Effect
3. Taste

Pax did well for a while (but when I travel it leaves the wife with nothing). I am wondering how the Ascent will handle #1 and will find out soon, but I'm worried about it. Just wondering the the Pn Pro would be better in any of those areas.

Solo from puffitup.com seems to be the best cheapest option and they carry the latest batches.

And yeah the offgassing is what concerned me originally, but then davinci came here and said it wouldnt be an issue, different materials all glass airpath so no offgassing possible. And now this whole fiasco happened. Oy vey...

Im still willing to give them a second shot. Might have been a mistake on my part but I traded my buddy my oil rig for his ascent once he gets the replacement hopefully soon. So ill give it another shot once it comes but if it still doesnt work as advertised im out... Will report back eventually

After dropping a glass screen and cracking it while cleaning, I realized that a big part of getting a good draw depends on the fit of the glass screen and mouthpiece. These come in pairs and aren't necessarily interchangeable - in one case the screen was too big for one mouthpiece. Of course the converse can be true too. If the mouthpiece is too loose, the clouds aren't as dense. I hit it off the buddy rim for better vape production.

So just to sum up what are the main problems with the ascent; the battery life and the off gasing? How about the bowl does finely ground herb spill through?

Does your computer run at 430F? I think that was the problem with the original DV model, that the LED screen was right next to the heating chamber. They have changed this with the Ascent but can someone tell me does it ever get hot there after many sessions? or is it just the bottom area? Cheers.

My ascent only gets hot on the bottom area after a session ending in 420.. it can get slightly warm on the upper body where the LED screen is..bit id wait to let cool off a lil before putting in your pocket!

Hey all,

Just wanted to pop in and give you all a quick update. Thank you to all of those that have been patient with us this entire time- but especially those of you with the first batch of units. I know they have been very hit or miss...but glad to see there are some hits here, literally.

I've have been super busy..as they seemed to think it was a good idea to put me in charge of ongoing quality control as I know the product and the market better than anyone at this point. I've been consumed building pre, during and post production QC procedures to ensure smooth sailing going forward, plus making sure all of the fixes are performed to a beyond satisfaction point.

I haven't had the opportunity to catch up on the thread, but plan to do so this weekend- same goes for all of the PM's I have waiting. Looks like you guys have been busy.....

So, now for the product updates. The silicone was a supplier problem, we have been purchasing what is considered food grade silicone, ie the stuff you bake with- and it is rated up to 700F for the quality that we have. By now you all know that the curing was improperly done, this has since been resolved. Not only are we switching suppliers, but are now doing a secondary curing inhouse to ensure that only the best gets through. We've managed to resolve the screen issue as well. There were two issues here, as I believe Nigel pointed out- some were scratched and others had a film coming off. This was due to 2 different batches being produced differently. The factory had decided to add a film to prevent the initial scratching which was occurring ..and contrary to popular belief....it was not put on inside out. The internals of this vape are so compact that there isn't much room for well, anything- so the film was coming off as they shoved the insides in. Apparently this is resolved and I'm waiting on samples to come in and then we're off to the races...again.

I've also been seeing posts about spacers and "pucks"...well noted and in progress. Thinking of a 2 in one design.

I'll let you all know how the samples look early next week.

Lastly, anyone who is discontent with their present Ascent- we will of course honor any warranty and exchange.

Enjoy the weekend all!

thanks DV.. Looking forward to VERSION 2.

DV, whats your comment on the plastic between the silicon stem ends?

Also don't forget QC on the skins peeling and / or glue

ohh last thing.. suggestions, instead of a little nub that raises the oil jar in the bowl (which creates a corner for resin to accumulate), how about a half circle going the other way so everything is easier to clean. OR just make it straight. No corners less than 90 degrees please.

Thanks for the update DV. I look forward to being able to swap mine out.

In case anyone else looked at it on Artfire, the Oregon glass blowers water whip to vaporizer 14mm adapter glass is too thick to let the Ascent glass screen fit inside the 9.5mm outside diameter tube. Too bad because the adapter is the perfect length and fits nice and snug inside the Ascent. And it was only $12.

thanks for the update DV. i hope that means i will get my replacement soon. please keep it and QC it really thoroughly... QC it yourself if you want i don't mind. mine was not as bad as some of the others in here but that offgassing needs to be nipped in the bud (he he)

So do you think the ones that kept thier ascents should still send them back due to the silicone not properly cured? and also the screen issue on led panel....

That depends if your OCD or not. If mine worked better I would have kept it. It has potential, but def needs some minor retooling to make it a lot more efficient and less wonky.

After several weeks I am still very happy with mine. I might send it back just to make sure I have to proper silicone in my unit and there are no other problems. But as far a vapor production and anything that matters, this unit is awesome. I get consistently good vapor and even some clouds should I so choose. Once all the kinks get worked out I think we're looking at the best overall portable vape. I'm sure the solo works great but it doesn't touch this as far as portability. This easily fits in my pocket. The battery could be better. But it's meant for shorter sessions anyway.

How is the ascent meant for shorter sessions than the solo when the bowl is so much bigger? I haven't used the solo but the fact that you can just take the stem out to stop the herb from cooking would also seem to be better for accommodating shorter sessions.

Just a thought, but shorter sessions could also mean that the herb is getting spent that much faster.

I got one of the latest Solos M1A for 139 from allstarvapes and am very happy with it.

I will most likely get the ascent one day, one its been proven to be as robust as the original DV.

That was one of the major design issues I had with the Ascent--it seems made for people whose vaping needs are MUCH greater than my own (and I thought I vaped a lot!). The work arounds like cotton or beads seem doable, but I'd rather have a vape out of the box that wasn't so hungry for my herb.

The fact that you can cram nearly a gram into the bowl (and end up wasting a lot of it) is beyond overkill for me, but I'm sure it's a perfect situation for others.

I guess it all boils down to the right tool for the right job. I would like to think a future revision of the Ascent would suit me, but its efficiency needs a lot of work. Using double or triple the herb for the same effect is a dealbreaker.

Is it really THAT hungry, I am NOT looking for something at is super efficient. But I would like it to be close to combustion if not better. I am worried that I will put in what I put in but not get as medicated as if I put it in a bowl, or not get the right bang for my buck.

Personally, I don't think you are even close to getting your bang for your buck. I also would like to repeat, I want to be able to use a vape the way it is made not do magic tricks to get it to work. Now saying that I do change some stuff on vapes but this is just crazy shit that it doesn't work as is in the way I prefer to use things. I went through grams of herb with very little return.
