Thank you so much for your thorough 'flow analysis' of vaping air through log vapes. We are very much in agreement on this issue. I have always been a 'flow' guy, trying to make all the flows in my life as smooth as possible. Makes for happier.
Stainless steel RETAINS heat better than brass. Brass TRANSFERS heat faster than Stainless steel. SS for the heatport/heat exchanger/heat core, etc is the best choice because it will hold more heat. With the RZ, we are insulating that hot mass of SS with an insulating blanket around the center of the heatport and two ceramic insulating rings, top and bottom. This keeps more heat in the SS and at the same time protects the wood from the heat produced by the SS heatport. We think this gives the RZ a big boost in efficiency. Lots of hot air at just the right temp and with very little fluctuation in that temp.
The stem tips are another matter. Vito alluded to this when he said he could get another pull or two from the sleeved old brass tips than the SS tipped stems. With a stem tip, we want to TRANSFER heat as much as possible, not retain heat. Gunky, your analysis of the inner diameter of the different tips and the flow they allow is right on. Smaller diameter will give a slightly different flow and some turbulence. I also think the brass makes a difference in the stem tips by transferring the heat to the stem tip contents slightly more efficiently than SS.
Our stem tip SS tubing is varying a bit between tubes by a few thousandths on the INNER diameter(wall thickness). Outside is always the same but with the wall thickness variance, some tips have slightly more capacity that others. We like the thinner walled SS for the stem tips as they transfer heat better than the thicker walled tube.
This is food for thought regarding future offerings with the RZ. Maybe a sleeved brass stem option? Same original AZ tip size made from RoHS lead free brass but sleeved to fit the new RZ heatport hole size.
Thanks again for your contribution to our thread.

I am still getting used to the new ss tips. I'll probably soon get the knack for using them but at the moment, perhaps because I'm switching from a brass zap, the brass tubes work better for me and I think having those with sleeve as an option is a great idea. I have some wood stems from Eds TNT which will get some use with the RZ2.

I think the diameter of the tip is an important factor in the equation. Smaller is highly efficient, until it becomes too fiddly to use or difficult to clean. If you make it bigger, at some point the energy stored in the core becomes insufficient to heat the large diameter load repeatedly.

How the Universe has hooked us up!
We have a web guy who treats us and our customers very well and does an excellent job.
This is a good idea, around for awhile that resurfaced on this thread a few pages back. Now is an excellent time to do it because we now need to keep track of each piece since they are all "on the shelf". This also will give prospective customers a clue as to what we can do. We can imitate almost anything you see(not the Sumos) but of course it will be different. Wood. All different.
We use only recycled wood and each piece is a solid piece of wood.

Rick,
^ such a smart idea. Plus it gives new customers a point of reference as to just how many options can and will continue to come out of zapville not to mention all the eye porn the rest of us get to have. That sumo stump was very nice Rick! They all are very nice, but that particular design would be very optimal for upside down usage I'd suspect.

Okay yall. After having my RockZap (yet to be named) for about 4 hours, here's some pics and a quick review.

Absolutely gorgeous. The blue and green dye is amazing. There are different shades throughout and the wood grain is still quite visible. I don't know if its the wood itself or the way she was turned, but there's some nice action going on. Stunning to look at and the grooves make her a dream to hold.

Rick was kind enough to include one prototype (hence the scratches) wooden stem for me. This little guy is unbelievable. Its gorgeous, the finger grooves are awesome and suits the RZ perfectly, and it hits like a champ. It doesn't get warm at the mouth either. I've never had the opportunity to try one of Ed's stems so I don't know how they compare. I love this thing all the same.

Just a look at the past, present, and future. :)

410685586.jpg

Pretty self-explanatory. Moaning Myrtle is slightly taller than the RZ. I noticed the SSS heatport is somewhat larger as well. Gunky mentioned how this leads to better airflow and oh boy does it. The RZ is simply awesome. I continue to get clouds of vapor at least 5 draws in, a feat MM can not accomplish. I only get 2 good clouds, one whispy one, and she's done. Not that way with the RZ. I've done two stems. The first I got 5 good draws and the stem was underpacked. The second was packed properly and it went for a good 8 before I stopped paying attention.

To sum it up, I'm definitely looking forward to vaping tonight during The Office

Just did 3 stems :D
Getting better at the grind + pack.
Getting about 4-5 hits/ stem. Then I've been putting it out on my palm, crushing it, and sucking it back in for a couple whispers.
The method is simply a pleasure though, way more enjoyable than my MFLB, which I stopped using. Proud to say this is now a combustion free environment.

going on a run :D (maybe i'm getting less hits cuz my lungs are huge and I take huge lungfulls

Pardon my out of character Uncle Vito comment... but....
YOU GUYS ARE FUCKIN' AWESOME!

Good show on the "carousel" of sold Zaps! Stellar idea, Rick!

Gobrian... all I can say is "Go Brian!!" ;)

SirElton, as a vape collector and reviewer, you have apparently arrived, and I for one am glad you're here!
Good images, and good report. Your post stands out with the very best of them!! Enjoy "The Office"!

Damn....now I want a wooden Stem like SirElton's! :brow:

Yes....you do Vito. I also have one of Rick's prototype wood stems and they are really nice. A real smooth hit. I haven't had to clean it yet, but the stainless running all the way through it should make it very easy.

Happy to report that after perfecting my grind this thing hits like a champ, pulls some fairly dense clouds through my little bubbler after a bit of rigging up

The larger opening and less restricted air flow of the RZ2 lessens that, so lowering the temp by drawing too fast is easier now. It's not a problem as long as you are aware of it and draw slowly.
It took me a couple days but I figured out this was exactly my problem. Coming from 7th Floor products and other heavy hitters, it was quite a difference. As a great FC member told me, "It's like sipping a milkshake". Thank you kind Sir. After that comment, every load was very evenly vaped and even darker than my usual ABV. I can't even explain how happy I am with my RZ now. Mom is always right :)

Thanks Vito for your stem packing lessons. This was the final piece towards the RZ becoming my daily driverwhich it has.

In fact, I was kind of upset that someone grabbed the Sumo swirl :whoa: before I could order my second RZ. That says something right there. Ill be back :ninja:

HELP: Can someone help with polish application instruction (or link me to them). Sorry, its Friday and Im lazy after a long week of work and that search button is so far away (pathetic, I know). I would like to apply my polish but dont want to mess it up. Do you use your hands or will the human oils mess up the process. Cloth application?

tree..... I'm so happy it worked out for you! :D

The polish can be applied with your hands. Warm up that RZ and give it some love. Just avoid the heatport area (down inside). With this new finish, it may not soak in like it used to. If there is excess, it can be wiped off with a soft cloth.

You enjoy yourself!

True enough mom. These guys do not drink the ZaPolish very much.

@treecityrnd-I use many vapes... and I use the surfer also. I too have enjoyed early morning medicating via Mabel RockZap... no wait required!

this should help you. i just took these pictures as i was catching up on this thread and finishing a stem, this is as far as I go, i stop once i get 'that taste' which i suppose is different for everyone, but i get a very distinct ABV taste and at that point its very dark brown throughout
And extra thanks to NYC for her pictures (and vids). These really helped me out with the grind "diameter". A picture is worth a thousands stems. My grind was just like GoBrians, normal 4-piece SC grind. My 2-piece SC is working much better for this style of vape. Sorry for rambling, just so happy with my new lover :luv:

And thanks GoBrian. Your question were exactly my questions (and I'm sure many others). By asking the simple stuff you have helped us all!

Thanks for the tips Vit & mom. Mine is a "plain" one so I think some polish will look nice and keep her looking good for years. But I hear you both...moderation for sure. And great tip on avoiding the heat port.

I still use my 7th like you Vit, just in more specialized/concentrate situations now. This little log has shown me how little it actually takes to get me medicated. I was blasting through meds, over-medicating and not even realizing it with the others. A $200 vape that can save me $1000s in medication costs...priceless!
