Yes.. I notice that the herb is better toasted.. so it blows out without the "untoasted" weed sticking to screen in spots.

Rick - I want to make up some silicone sleeves to try on a Zap tube. What is the length of the exposed stainless / brass tubing on a Zap tube? Do you know if Ed uses the same length? Ed?

Alan, I have about a 1/2" of brass showing outa my tubes, hope this helps ya!

Alan, we are well onto that technique to do the job and many old Zaps are tall enough. The problem is how the wood has changed over the years. We have to line everything up again and it will require re-turning to balance out the new centers. There is no way we can get back to original centers on a refurbish. They are gone. In fact there is no real center to the wood after time as it changes shape, especially that style.
So all of you who are interested in the RockZap refurb, would be willing to pay new RZ prices for that job? I would have the same raw material cost as a new one and probably more time involved to do the job right.
What say you?
Guitarscreaming did get his order in. Patience now folks.

I would just buy a new one if the refurbished were the same price or more. This is not a positive or negative comment. Just would not be worth sending it back if this was the case. I understand that the work involved could potentially be more difficult than making a new one. It just does not seem worth it for either Rick or the customers.

I guess it would depend on how people felt about their current zaps thought.

Is it the bottom that is out of round or are you finding the top changing shape?
I have found that the bigger the hole in the wood, the more it will change dimensions. That is just the fickle nature of wood.

My new RZ 'Sweetie' is warming up. I will post a quick little review sometime. Also, a picture of her older sibling, 'queen's plank' for size comparison. Sorry my HP webcam isn't of the highest quality.

BTW, the person above me made a beautiful decision. The 'monet' is fucking nice looking.

My Black Locust RZ2 arrived just now. It's even nicer looking than I expected from the pics. The grain on this stuff is amazing. The unit reminds me of a nice old burl pipe. The scalloped areas on the side give the hand a better grip than the old cylindrical shape. Fit and finish are awe inspiring! Will report after it warms up.

Rick, every time I saw the mention of "Refurb" I was wondering how you'd accomplish that, I had thought it would be a tough venture, and what you stated above was what I was thinking, it would be quite time consuming, where as a new would take less.

I hear ya guitar! My UNC football team plays the yellow jackets from GT this sat, funny thing is I got stung yesterday in the side of the head BY a yellow jacket, hurt like fuck.

I recently recieved my RZ 'sweetie' this morning and she is a beaut! I've been testing out two vapes this morning and I am very well medicated. I am a happy ass mother fucker all around! I can finally settle back and enjoy my toys. The hits on this RZ are better and deeper than the hits on my RZ1 concrete cup liner version. 'Sweetie' is just soothing in the hands. I think I can finally take a break from building up my vape arsenal, or can I? lol peace from the EAST coast

Mary Plain Jane arrived. Simple and elegant. More than I could have ever expected aesthetically. First time using a log-style vape. I'm about to lose my virginity...let the Prom begin! Wish me luck  Ill report back soon. I plan on adapting this for my hash catcher (see signature) asap.

THANKS RICK!!!

This thing is functional art!

A couple of questions...What is the preferred grind and suggestions on how full to pack the stem? (All the way full, 3/4, etc.) The maiden voyage went great but I haven't used a log zap in a few years.

I vape 2 stems, and then I vape 2 stems, and then I vape 2 more....I think I am remembering the song incorrectly.... :ko:

no thats how the song goes... now :p

I use the straw method to suck it up into the stem, and then I try not to push it down and pack it too much, since you dont need to make sure none will out since theres a screen. I just put the tip of my finger on the open end and give it a little twist and its secured enough at that point. walla! you are ready to vape!

I love that Top hat of yours, the shape is really something. i bet its real comfy to hold :D

Thanks for the tips. I read back and read the recommendations to keep the pack fairly loose. I packed them so full there was resistance drawing without it on the vape. 2nd session up in a little while. Yeah!

How comfortable this thing feels in my hand was my second impression after its looks. Its shape is pretty much ideal, IMO. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the "TopHat" shape turns out to be one of the most popular.

Well it does look pretty
it already seems to be pretty popular but the choice and availability is what will get people when they finally decide that they would like to invest in a Zap.

Enjoy! hope it works better! after the first hit(sometimes the 2nd) the herb will shrink and sort of pack itself down, so it wont look like its up to the line you filled it to(usually the top for me) and it should hit great!

Well its my first review, but lets give it a shot.

I just got my Rosie RockZap in the mail today, and she blew my mind. First impressions out of the box, she's smaller than the MZ (Own and used a MZ daily for 1.5+ years), and the colors are fantastic. I was somewhat skeptical on the way color and natural wood would clash, but they create a trippy combination and great to look at. The locations where there may be hard edges (cap of shroom) is smoothed out, and the hand gripage on this unit is fantastic, practically rests on the top of your hand. The images show it off pretty nicely.

"Choice and availability" Right on NYC.
We will have more choices as our inventory moves. Those choices will be up regularly. Any choice we offer is available and will ship within 1-2 days. There will be more top hats in a similar shape.
Wooden stems are still on hold. The only way we will make them is to be able to make lots of them with consistent high quality products. There is still a bug or two to work out. Stainless through the entire stem presents new challenges but we will get through them soon.
Interesting to see the comments on the RZ2 retrofit. One labor item I did not mention is the removal of the original heatport and parts. The old heatport removal will be the main labor involved in the old style wood insulated retrofit to SS. That can actually be quite a challenge as the center hole shrinks in diameter. I can get it out alright but sometimes the surrounding wood will get a Ricky hit.
Jackmorman
Fill the tip only 1/2 or 3/4 full. The straw method described by NYC works very well. It will seem like a full tip load at first but then will shrink down after a pull. Remember, less is more. Start small, then work up.
SD_haze
Nice video. Thanks much for that. You will improve on the vapor flow. Stem tip pack is important. Keep it on the loose side.
As you all can see, these are little fucks. They fit really nice in the hand and are plenty warm but not too warm to hold. Also take note of the efficiency. I think the insulated heatport design takes SS to new levels by isolating it in the wood. We do not rely on wood for insulation but instead rely on space age insulation to insulate the heater. The heater likes it. The wood likes it and the user likes it.
And now another shot or two late in the night.
I'll get these up early in the morning along with a few others.

This one started to be a Burnee but needed an adjustment that turned out real sweet. Good time to mention ALL THE BLACK LINES ARE BURNED IN. That is wood burning, not coloring on the black lines.

Here is a beauty. I even call her that. It is so fun to pick these corny names.
