Thank you very much for this great vaporizer rick. That's a very kind move, buddy. I'll have a more complete review later today. I don't think you'll mind me comparing this to the 13.5v RZ1, buddy... I don't think you'll mind at all. This new thing... Man this is something real. No compromises. You might have the most efficient vaporizer on the damned green Earth with this. I just keeps going and going with great vapor. Let's be straight, no more BS. My main ride is a 13.5v heated RZ1 named Toad, and she rips. I'm used to that, day in day out. This new little fucker though, put me to sleep twice yesterday afternoon. Out like a light from 2 stems. And oh by thew way it took an hour to get through two stems, because lil Polly Jane the Zap likes to take her time and wring every last drop from her charge. NO GREEN ABV OF ANY SHADE OR HUE. Just solid medium brown, with no dark brown bits even.
Enough for now.
UPDATE: I forgot to post the first part, because I had to run to a seminar. Polly Jane and I did some prep-work and it was just mind blowing, but I forgot to post, doh!
Okay some comparisons.
As mentioned, my main ride is a RZ1 prototype, which performs just better than my walnut brass zap. It has thicker hits, and a few (2-3 more) when compared apples to apples with brass. When I give her 13.5v, as I do most of the time, she clears a stem in 3 hits or maybe less. The first hit is a choker, but after that most of it is done. The second is about half the first and the third is a whisp. It gets hot and goes quick, leaving a little scorch behind on the outermost herb in the stem, but a little green in the back of the stem. This is due to the nature of the boost by the 13.5v. The hotter air doesn't seem to be as much of a factor as overheating the screen, which the load is in contact with. This phenomena delivers a bit of what I call the LB effect, where the screen is directly heating the load. In short, the 13.5v RZ1 is a double barrel shotgun, with two quick blasts and a lot of wasted shot. For glass ware, it's tops though.
Now for the next level.
Performance...
The RZ2 prototype is another level. This thing delivers crisp rich hits of vapor that tickle every time. And the thing is...
It just keeps doing it. I won't get into hit counts, because that's VERY subjective to the herb used, but I'll say this. It delivers just as satisfying hits as the 13.5v RZ1 that are less harsh, and it delivers 2-3x more of them. The ABV as mentioned is uniformly toasted to medium brown, not mixed. This is one seriously efficient vape, that does NOT hit like an efficiency product. As mom mentioned. I think only a fresh wand in my whip could outdo Polly Jane. I'll add that to my review as soon as I can however.
Ergonomics...
The top is safe for all but the smallest of fingers now, so long as the stem is inserted. It's so much smaller in hand-feel, but sits comfortably in the hand nonetheless. My RZ1 is more stable, for things like whip use, but it's much heavier as well. I find myself preferning the smaller RZ2, though. Thanks to the recessed heater port, the RZ2 with stem installed is a good bit shorter and more compact. It's just more "piece sized" than earlier logs. It's light enough that you can let go of it when using glass without fear of stressing your piece. Through water, the RZ2 performs great. The same relentless hits that will just wear you out. If you have a bubbler that will stand on its own, then hook the RZ2 in and leave it, put a piece of whip tubing on the mouth and hookah-hit it. You're going to be at this awhile, so get comfortable, lol.
My unit had a loose fit on the stem/port junction, but I'm assuming that this was either from the rework of the older ports that us early testers have, or to keep the SS from snagging. Either way, it's just a little loose, but it doesn't affect my use as I always wrap my index finger around the stem and pull it towards me to secure it anyway. And as mentioned, the power plug gets a bit warmer than the unit. Not burningly so though. My unit is warm to the touch, but not hot.
In the final analysis....
I've never tried any of the other logs, so a comparison would be senseless from me. There are other outlets for that perspective. However, I own every major design evolution of the Zap since hardwood, and this is miles beyond anything rick has done so far. It's a simple vaporization system that is the pinnacle of efficiency, AND among the most satisfying vaporizers to use. I'm a combuster-convert and rick has been trying to get me off of the 13.5v since day one, and he finally has. There is no reason. This is freight train in a tea cup.
