Wow, a few days off from the thread and my mind is even further blown. Congrats on the innovation around here! I really gotta get a move on fillin' the piggy bank for a newly designed zap to complement my "OG" zap. Never enough.

And gotta agree with HighSti's above post...Rick is the man when it comes to customer service. Thank you, Rick.

Happy zappin, all.

Already thinking of what wood to use for a RockZap. What do yall think of quilted maple? :brow:

I know we're getting ahead of ourselves, but its good to think of the possibilities :)

Ahh yes.. I see it now. I had not been careful enough in my focus previously...
But as you are addressing any question regarding this issue I will confidently stand by my
confidence in the safety of anything Zapville releases! ;)
I appreciate your dedication but I believe it is better to ask questions than blindly follow.

See now what I'm afraid of is that the piece of wood I picked for mine and paid for myself will pale compared to Rick's ability to make almost any wood into a Zap. Oh well, it'll be a RockZap! And it'll be mine :)

Fingers crossed!

kewpcer, that same thing actually happened to me. I contacted Rick about a year ago regarding making me a Zap out of walnut. At the time, he was working with only myrtle and I wanted something no one else had. I bought a piece of walnut that we thought was pretty and got a real nice Zap out of it. Well, about a month later, Rick got turned on to some incredible figured walnut. Made mine look like a plain Jane. But, she hits like a champ and it's all good. There is no such thing as the "prettiest piece of wood." Mother Nature will always come up with something prettier. And let's face it; it's all in the eye of the beholder.

True that!

Yeah, mom. I understand, but I got turned on to Zaps by the Myrtle of lore, which seems to have been rare to find those burls and figures in the right density. However, I learned too late. And the Myrtle was all straight grain. But, thanks to Rick... I caught the end of the trippy Walnut car on the Zap train, and my little beaut has been doing 80% of the workload since.

I should say, that I've always loved burled and figured wood. Even since a child. I play guitars, and the best of our instruments use figured wood. I realize there's no "Best" piece, but the tight curly burls on your RZ for instance are just stunning.

That said, most of this is just me fretting away the time as I wait. It's silly, but anticipation is a strong drug.

my favorite of my original three was a straight grain myrtle. I wanted something more "trippy" but that one is a beauty.

A few Zaps out yesterday and a few today and some more tomorrow. The ones that shipped yesterday I spaced the shipping notices til today. They are all out now(notices). Sorry about that.

I'm starting to get very excited about the RockZap. My normal SSS MZ needs its cozy under certain circumstances and from what Rick and others have said the concrete really helps stabilize the temp and retain heat.

Herb might not be addictive, but buying zaps and accessories certainly is.

What is all of this talk about fanbois of the Zap?? ;)

Sheesh... Looks like I gotta keep up with this thread regularly as things change in the blink of an eye around here! Awesome changes and additions Rick! I am pleased as punch that you are 'moving forward' per se with your design and improvements of the Zap. Mine is still going strong and I shudder to think of the day when it finally does kick the bucket.

At least I know Ill be in good hands when it comes time for a replacement :D

Keep on rockin on fellow Zappers!

Its been at least a year and a half, and I would say that 97% of that time it has been continuously plugged in. Its gotten to the point that it needs to stay plugged in, otherwise it will rattle when the metal contracts. Keeping it on = Zappy cloudness. :brow:

i have a question on the cement zap, can the heat exchanger fall out? as i dont see any retaining rings on mom's unit which is still beta being the first to be shipped out. not that it really matters i wouldnt hold one upside down anyways. will be able to order tommorow but i hope it doesnt take longer then a week :/ , rick any chance you could send a brass unit out quicker then sss in walnut wood? just wondering, thanks! edit: the traditional brass is still an option on the site... /double edit: will FC still get a third vapor stem or plug repair?

guardian,
might be stepping outside of my knowledge threshold here but I assume (clears throat) the "rock" will also be held in by the tube for the ac plug since it goes through both the cement and exterior. Plus not to mention Rick can bore the wood exterior to the exact caliber since this new filler is much more resilient to the variances that expanding and contracting can cause; especially over a large period of time.

Pretty sure it's pressed in, in which case it's a friction bond. Like the bearings inside your car's engine.
