The koozie I use is is neoprene, like these:
http://www.beerkoozies.com/koozies/can-koozies.html

I cut of the bottom part and made a notch for the power cord. No offgassing with this one. I haven't tried the foam koozies, but they seem maybe less safe to me, and certainly less aesthetically pleasing. The neoprene is really nice to hold and doesn't add much to the diameter of the vape. :2c:

This one is neoprene also. I haven't seen those big non-collapsible one's in a while, but I haven't exactly been keeping an eye out for them. It must be the ink, or just crappy quality in general. It should stop smelling eventually, but I think I'm just going to wash it.

Fleabits? Kinks? Do you mean little pieces of glass, knicks, or ? Not being a glass owner before I've never heard that term.
Tiny cracks and chips in the glass, called flea bites because it is a small crack that you dont usually notice it. Flea Bite is a pottery/ceramics term.
Yep, thats it mostly.[...edit...]

So why avoid fleabites? Because they weaken glass, give a less direct seal, and I think they give a higher tendency for joint lock.
EHLE's downstem joints are neither shallow nor thick, so more caution is necessary.

Sorry to spiel, I've seen many a good glass pieces go bad because people nick the crap out of their joints.

Google, keck clip.
Smoke, thanks for the info. I guess we're getting off topic here, but I'll just pursue one more question on the topic of glass in general, and that is, do you know of a really good glass or page as far as explaining about the various parts, terminology, cleaning, general usage, etc.? I think there's a thread here on glass but I haven't been over there yet. I just wanna know the basics.

If he had new, definitive information it would have been appropriate. Except he wasn't even addressing the actual issue. I'd bet he is fuckyoutom.

I notice he's banned too. Did somebody do an I.P. check/ban? Keeping assumptions about who that was and what they've done to get banned aside, I thought the info was a little interesting, although I knew that the thermal conductivity of brass was different than stainless.

Can we assume by this premise that the MZ gets back to to it's operating temp faster than a stainless-based vape? Do you think this improves a steady state temperature while taking a hit as well? I've already made my decision about the health issues, and that has been beaten to death, but the thermal characteristics of brass, I have not heard much talk about. I mean, if it's a better material for the purposes of actually vaporizing effectively, as the intent of the devices set out to do, then I think it is quite relevant for discussion.

Well, one of the things that that article said was that brass will heat up faster but also cool down faster. When used in our applications, we don't want it to cool down faster. We want the temps to remain as constant as it can between hits, once it reaches the correct vape temps.

I thought that may be the case, but personal experience tells me that the rate at which air flows:vapor produced seems correlative, but that could be simply from more airflow producing more vapor. It feels like the air is hotter when there is more airflow. I guess the important thing, and what I've noticed, is that there is not a drop off in vapor produced throughout the hit. On the contrary, it seems to get's thicker the longer you draw. Nothing is combusting in there, so more oxygen shouldn't effect it. Ah well, the MZ works great and that's all that matters in these speculative discussions, although they are interesting to have.

Hey Mnmlh did you read the post about using the top half of a cotton tube sock instead of a Koozie? If you are worried about outgassing might want to change to something that isn't made out of chemicals.

I scrubbed it a few times and ran it through the dishwasher, but the smell is still there. I'm just going to wait, as I ordered a 13.5v and some other goodies from Rick today.

Here's my "Sockoozie". I think it's wool but not sure. Works great, it's doubled over, I could take it all the way to the top, I just didn't find it necessary to do so:

Here's a good "cottage industry" - very small cottage! Make 1/4" thick wool Myrtlewood colored Sockoozies for the Zap and put a "Zap!" lightning bolt or something across the front... I'll buy one... I suppose one could sell them with various names on them and in different colors... :D

hehe... mine looks like that but black with tighter ribbing. I love using it way more than a koozie, actually got rid of my koozie since I started with the sock. I think mine is cotton. Bet that wool gets it nice n toasty.
I don't use it often, only when I want too use it. Or I will throw it on when I am moving it to my car and the likes. Keeps the heat in, minimal heat loss walking a short distance.

Yeah, me too. I have only used it a couple times just "to see the difference". It does give a little heavier vapor,.

But for the most part I'm fine with Myrtle in the nude. :brow:

I only use mine when there is cold air involved in usage area. Don't want the heat of my unit compromised.

I solved my connecting problem of how to get a good connection between the 1/2" tubing and the 14mm downstem. I used this "plain stem" (pure nylon stem with no bowl) to connect to the tubing on one end and place down into the down stem of the bong on the other end.

I definitely got a better seal with this method and so the 1/2" tubing might be better than the 1/4" for me, now. (Though I'll probably have to do some more experimenting to be sure... :D )

I think that's the way to go Moe. It keeps the same flow ID of the stem connected to the MZ, and eliminates the chance of harming the joint, and/or glass adapter.

mnmlh,
After 3 weeks of lurking and absorbing, I pulled the trigger on a MZ just now, so I figured I ought to register.

Can't wait!

We do have the small stem "connectors" as Moe showed above. No fleabits. Thats cool. Email me if interested.
