I keep the swivel top cap on my Solo. I sometimes pack it around in a bag or a purse. This way I don't have to check for foreign objects falling in the oven. Do whatever way works for you.

It's a nice portable to have - very reliable. Eventually I'm going to get me a newer battery but my unit still goes almost an hour without needing charged. It would be nice to have 2+ hours again. That's what's so nice about this unit. You can replace battery yourself. No need to send it back to the company or throw it away.

Am i a bad person if I rip the swivel cover off the top of my solo?
i always do it and one of my friends said it was a shame. but i disagree.......

I'm pretty sure I lost mine within the first few weeks and just said fuck it. Out and about around the house I don't really care, but if I'm travelling I prefer to keep it in the case I found at home. Not sure who makes it (no labels), but it fits the Solo and a straight stem. I'm sure it would fit a doob tube full of flower too. The cardboard tube was from when I got some kava extract from Magic Flight, not sure where to source them. I just throw the loaded case into my backpack and head out. I don't have a purse, and can't really pocket the Solo because then everybody things I'm just real happy to see them...

I'd be interested to know if you think, after battery swapping, if the solo seems to perform better after replacing a battery with 2+ years heavy use?
It could very well be placebo effect but interesting nonetheless!

There was a youtube video showing a regular battery and a hi-cap battery side by side and the hi-cap actually warmed up quicker.

you may need a battery and not even know it!
There are a couple times I took aged but working solos (still got 5+ sessions in on a charge) but were useless around the 3-4 temps and would drop very low when hitting. they didn't put out real good vapor until 5 and then i knew there could be more.

Slapped in a fresh battery and it started hittin like a truck at low temps so now my old solo and 2015 solo hit the same.

Now that the FC cognoscenti has given their stamp of approval (and they know who they are) it's a foregone conclusion I'll hop aboard.

I just bought first upgrade after 2 years, a high capacity battery today I received my new HE gongs and fall in love again.
Solo has a larger bowl than nano or any other vape I own so not the best to keep tolerance down, but: WTF how much it punches my face in a single session, and no need to pull full lungs to get very thick vapor, 100% convection devices have theirs limits IMO

@ataxian, for what is worthed I think metal gong stem/ bowl isn't the best, at least for vaping at high temperatures (5-7) or battery life in general as conduction through the metal part will strip away a lot of heat forcing the heater to "heat" more often to keep up the waste

Bought an @Eds Wong recently before gongs. Beautiful piece of glass-like Blackwood, not very wood tasty but I found performances decreases a bit, not dramatically but noticeably (on 7), hits are little whispiers, they get more dense by putting some high temp oring around the part of the SS bowl caming out from the unit but for me glass gives betters performances in Solo

I made the WOOD STEM work after soaking it in THC OIL.
However even if I break GLASS I still prefer it to WOOD.
I believe your correct.
Stainless tubing may be unbreakable however not the same as glass.

I'm trying to find an INERT material to replace GLASS and still be unbreakable.
After trying to play NEWTON all week I'm back to GLASS.

My SOLO is working like a bought one.
Need to buy more glass for it.

I like using domed screens in my stems to cut down the size of the bowl by at least 1/3...helps the herb heat more evenly as well so I`m getting max efficiency out of about 1/16 of a gram load...

Like @CarolKing often says, the Solo is so versatile you can set it up just the way you like it ('cause we`re all different)...
I really like rocking the stem to find the sweet spot in the draw...once you get to know the Solo it really starts to become clear (to me at least) just how great they are!...

@ataxian You might break less glass with the smaller bowl though (but it probably wouldn`t be as much fun)!...

Well yeah, FC is usually lots of playful fun (great for me to pop back in and re-discover)!

I started out with a very low tolerance after years of not medicating, so the screens were really just what I needed at first...
My tolerance is higher now so I may have to go full bowl/no screen at some point...
What`s that expression you used: "Go big or go home"!

After some more research i dont think the battery age is an issue.
An old battery in fine shape still works great.
A new battery could be abused & in poor shape and struggle to provide a steady amount of power.
So you should know if your solo is hitting less strong than it should.

Im not claiming to know or prove anything!

@Alan of HI makes silicone roasting tubes and i have often wondered if a similar design would work in the solo.

@vapman has discussed the benefits of copper, so i would personally love to see a copper bowl adapter for the solo.

I got my 3400mAh battery from eBay today.
came with nice instructions on how to do it and all.
The solo I put it in could barely heat anymore. Now it heats up near instantly.

Excellent...can you post or send me that link? I just bought a second Solo to back up my old one, but the old one will need a new battery in a few months and I`m starting to look for my best deal on that...

I posted it for ataxian a couple pages ago, its still good

You can get a stock capacity one for $12 less but $12 is totally worth having like 5 or 6 more sesions per charge.

Installation took maybe 5 minutes?
I had some washers around from reading Pipes recommendation. It's currently charging.
don't forget to let it charge a long time before using - they arrive empty anyway.

edit: is it supposed to arrive empty or is there any chance i put the new battery in backwards? i matched the colors to each other.... i guess i will find out if the "1" light comes on up at some point!

edit 2 hehe. i see the 1 light flickering on now. guess i did it right
Now to just let it charge for , oh, 16 hours.

So, I'm having an issue that I've never seen listed before. I press both buttons and let go, the 3 and 7 lights come on for a second then it shows the charge level, then nothing. No blue light at all. At first I was freaking out, but then I hit the up button to level 4 and it starts heating up.
Works like usual, and then both buttons again to power off. It's almost that the 3 and 7 are acting like the idle light....and of course I'm off to vacation with this, but hey, as long as it's working.
Just wanted to document this problem for future reference.

I agree, fully discharged is a big old red flag to me. How/why did this happen? They should live happily many years at 2/3 charge or so, basically no self discharge. Perhaps the protection PCB is 'sub par' and/or the packs are very old? Or worse still, they were subjected to excessive heat?

One thing sure, if whatever discharged them that far had taken them further, say below 2.50 Volts per cell, it would have destroyed the cell.

Hopefully they will work just fine over time, but.......

Was this directed at me? was it bad the battery wasn't at halfway when i installed it?

If it was, the battery appeared to be fully empty when i started charging it, now it's been plugged in for 24 hours so i'm enjoying it now and say say with confidence it's working better than it did (well before it took a reaaaaally long time to get past heat level 1 and would drop to nothing as soon as you started hitting)
