I have 3 GonGs from PV. Two -18mm and One-14mm. The 14mm has smaller holes just like your newer stem. The 18mm have the bigger holes. I never thought anything of it because it works great. I realize it's not what you wanted. PV should make it right. They've done so in the past for me when they sent me a wonky lop-sided GonG.
One of your stems looks like it's strictly for Hash :D

@Slow Draw McGraw did you respect 420?
Time to order some PHVES GonG's from www.planetvapes.com

I bought a new PVHE stem and the holes are way too small... Not the same as the first one I got years ago.. I am not happy

You can barely get a hit through it..

The one in the middle is the new one with the tiny holes.. The left is my first PVHE On the right is a stock curved stem... Even the holes in the stock stem are bigger than the new PVHE ....

This is bullshit... I don't want to send it back to PV Canada , they should just send me a good one.. the way it's supposed to be..

The vortex (turbo?) works well for me as a gong. I don't know how it compares as a regular stem.

I want a good 4 big holes like my orig PVHE... I just contacted PV with the pictures.. I got this a mmonth ago and knew something was wrong but I didn't pull the screen out and look till a couple days ago...

Those holes are way too tiny,,, it just wasn't made correctly

Hopefully there are putting a good one in a box for me now

how did you proof the age of the unit to arizer ?

and *newtopic*
what exactly is the goldenbrown semi transparent residue in the stem? and what does my lung think about inhaling this?

I had copies of the receipt in my email (purchased online through planetvape) so I just sent that off to arizer when they asked me the information.

You now qualify to get yourself a backup vape.

Haha, I think I do! I love the solo so much. Such an awesome thing to own.

I'm so glad to have you guys help me out. Should be getting it back Friday if shipping is right. :)

My friend I sold my Solo to broke the end of one of the stems. He has another one, he just hasn't used it. It looks like that busted one on the left in detonator's post. He came over and just put herb in the oven and used the stem as a straw. Did not taste good. If he didn't have another one I would have given him one of mine, but the ones I have fit extremely lose in his solo and are not as thick walled at all so I am sure he would break them. But he has another bent stem.

He also coated the board with some weird stuff to protect it. :/ he says it is stable and non volatile at very high temps. I almost didn't even want to use it. He said he accidentally got some in where the buttons are which made it so I couldn't even turn the damn thing on. He just said to push the buttons REAL hard. He kept trying to get me to let him use this perylene stuff to make it so nothing sticks to the stems, just wash it off. Hopefully he didn't use it on his stems as I used it last night. It is his vaporizer now so he can do whatever he wants.

If anyone is wondering, cleaning the stems is very easy and I have even cleaned them by putting them under hot running water. No need to dip the board in any weird chemicals either. Just don't drop it in the toilet! :D Do not be like my buddy!

Herb gardener...
I don't like sharing my vape anyway, if anyone come's round I will give them their own vape to use...

Love my solo too much to be passing it around a bunch of high people, asking for trouble, wouldn't let anyone near my eq either, too much expensive glass...

They can use the flowermate....

Wtf.
He should just buy one of @Ed's TnT stems! Damn near indestructible and the bowl is made of stainless - no muss, no fuss.

EDIT: I looked up Parylene and wikipedia says "...it is the most bio-accepted coating for stents, defibrillators, pacemakers and other devices permanently implanted into the body..." and "...stable to oxidation up to 350° C..."

But still, why...

Woot woot!! Arizer has arrived!

Charging it right now. Looks pristine (my old solo was cracking a bit on the bottom plate where the screws were.)

My old solo had a problem with the circuitry they said so I received a brand new one :)

Man I am soo looking forward to heating it up later tonight

Be sure to put a set of tiny washers under those screws and you will probably not have a problem with the baseplate cracking. I did that with both of my Solos.

I tried the PVHES short turbo stem with my Solo for the first time.

I love the improved airflow...big difference over the regular stem! I also like the way it fits in my lips.....not too thick.

However, the hits are way too light....it feels like I'm not getting much vapor at all. The flavor it's great but the vapor and stem might be too hot for my liking.

I'll use it a few more times and see if I end up liking it more than I like the bent stem (minus the airflow of course).

Hey Detonator you know you can wash them in the dishwasher? They come up really good. When the holes are too small it does make it too hard to draw.

I had such a good run of not breaking any glass stems until a few days ago when I broke 2 in 2 days. When one of them broke it left the glass packing area inside the solo and it took me a while to be able to get it out, was a pain.

So I had to order another 2 stems and I am waiting on them now, I only have this last one left and I'm really hoping it doesn't break before I get these new 2.

If it does break I guess I'll have to use my extreme q for a while.

Edit - I just noticed that one in the middle has those outer groove holes, maybe the idea was to make smaller internal holes so less bud goes through to the mouth and those outer holes were going to allow air flow? Sounds like it doesnt work though from what you've mentioned.

I usually vape alone but when I use cannabis with others I have another Solo or several other units for them to choose from.

I don't share spit anymore. Remember those soggy joints passed around with everybody's spit ugh. The good old days.:ugh: What took me so long to discover vaporizing? 3 years and 3 months in is all for me.

If it's a short version, that's to be expected really? There's less herb in there to make vapor......therefore less vapor?

I also suspect you're drawing too hard. Unlike blazing (where more airflow means more fire and more heat), the heat available to make vapor is fixed. Drawing cold air in (now easier to do in larger volume) uses some of that heat to warm the air, meaning even less is available to make vapor. Heating extra cold air robs the heat to make more vapor even as it's diluting what vapor you're getting unnecessarily.

Such stems will remove draw restriction but you have to ask 'why is it restricted to start with?'. Surely Arizer tested different hole sizes and decided on the level of restriction they used for reasons that seemed good to them at the time?

You can boost the heat to compensate, but then you sacrifice more taste since the temperature is higher?

Your experience is very common. Reduced restriction and desire for 'bigger clouds' encourages guys to hit it harder overrunning the oven. You get faster, bigger, but less dense hits as a result. Slow it down, you'll get thicker hits.

A lot of us went to lots of troubles to get PVHESs a when they first came out, lots of us have gone back to stock stems (including the ten dollar stem for the Air which will mate with a WT just fine).

Good luck with your experiments, I'm sure you'll find a configuration that suits you.

No fucking way man! I step in on a thread where you admit you love the solo.

Welcome to the club bruvver ;)

Though I'm still looking to be schooled by your EQ

Ha I know, it took a while for me to realise, it's cause I was always rushing the time I had a go on it...

Not till I bought one and took it home, after a week I fell in love....

I use level 3 to 5 now....

But the eq is still on a whole other level, @1DMF I hope you sort your transport out in time for the summer fc UK meet...

@CarolKing I don't miss those unhygienic soggy shared joint's either...

I always carry a vape wipe incase I have to share a Vape while out...

Oh man, I was going to throw out the box yesterday into the recycling bin...
Removed the bubble wrap from the box and I pick something up and it feels hard.

What's this?
A bag wrapped in bubble wrap - NO CHARGE sticker on it. Open it up 2 glass stems and 2 silicon caps!

Say what? Great haha. I broke my bent stem last year dropping it on the floor.

Only difference is the draw holes on these two stems are smaller than the ones I got with my original order. I will try one of them next time to see how restricted it is.

Thank you arizer, Thank you FC! Without this site I would have never bought a vape.:D:tup::clap:

Thanks a lot....your advise is always on point!

I took everything you said into consideration and had a much better session, however, I think I like the regular bent stem much better. I will continue to use it with the dome screen and keep looking for a mouthpiece for it.

Thanks again!

Yer welcome. Like I said, you're far from alone in 'coming back to the factory' stems. I was big on the bent one as well (drove me up the wall when they'd rotate on their own, led to the o-ring fix) but then came 'full circle' to the straight stems again a year or so later. And of course, with Air, nothing but straight stems?

I recall a discussion about this topic (why do some switch back?) and one of the usual suspects (CK I think?) put her finger right on it, after the emotional/financial hassles getting a PHHES (it used to be months and months wait only to have them sell out again in a few days) folks that finally got one were committed to enjoying it no matter. Wise, to the point of being profound I think. Sometimes guys have a huge investment in the idea that can dominate I think.

Took me a LONG time to give up my bent PVHES for sure.......I'm not exactly sure where it is right now....

As to tips, a couple things you might try are wrapping some Teflon 'Plumber's Tape' around the normal drip tips to get them snug or use a short piece of Silicone tube on the outside to make the connection. I did both, but like the PVHES went back to factory. Alternatively we could drop by Ataxian's place, while he and I hung out at the pool you could excuse yourself to use the rest room.........
