Arizer Solo

Does anyone know where I could get some "mesh basket"-style screens (the type like the elbow screens in the Extreme Q), so I could "elbow pack" a Solo? Would be nice to lay out a bunch of one-hit loads and easily change "cartridges".

I had a link to just such a thing open a few days ago, but I've lost it to a browser crash and can't seem to dig it out of all the miscellanous crap in my history, nor locate where I found it by Google/forum searching. Something with a pressed metal rim holding the screen shape, instead of just a bit of mesh shaped in a die.

It'd be fun to crack it and 'greep in' but most folks balk at wires sticking out of their vapes..... Bluetooth would be nice.....control it from your IPhone?

Anyway, not wanting to hack up a working Solo (even my own) is the thought behind the shutter release. You know the thing I mean? The bulb on a hose photographers use to pump up the little gizzie that screws into the camera and pushes a pin out. All mechanical, plenty powerful enough, put a rubber bumper on it and push the Solo buttons from above.

You could arm it by squeezing both, waiting a few seconds for it to boot then using only the up one, click it up to 3 or 4 or 7 for all I care..... Then, when the session's over, use the other one (in the other corner of the backpack?) to click it down 'at least enough' to idle and timeout.

No drama. No 'smoke' or smell. Just a thirsty guy over on that bench.....

Similar, but the mesh has a cylindrical shape instead of hemispherical. (like slightly-smaller versions of these.)

(It's sad those don't fit, really, as it'd mean you could use the same pre-packed loads in both the desktop and portable options.)

the only issues i find with this design are:

1) wrapping the solo in socks may not be good for the solo. the solo gets hot and needs to breathe and the socks may make it hold its heat in a bad way

2) like #1 above the shaker is solid and cant be modded easily so the solo will get hot in there. i have holes in the bottom of my McDonalds cup to allow the solo to breathe

3) like #2 above the shaker is hard to mod so you will have to take your solo out to turn it on/off and to change temps (if you are like me i use a variety of temps during my sessions) i have cut a "door" into my McDonalds cup so i can reach the buttons. when i use the solo in public i make sure to hold the cup so the window can't be seen

to hold my solo in place in the cup i used the Styrofoam that the solo came in the box in and trimmed the square edges to they are rounded and can fit in the cup. one ring goes around the bottom of the solo and another ring goes around the top of the solo holding it in place in the cup even when i have to press the buttons.

still a great design NF. good ideas always start on this forum

So what do you do when you need to exhale in public?

Hold it in long enough to allow the vapor to dissipate in my lungs and i exhale nothing or exhale into my shirt but the former works better

I purchased the stealth adapter and used it for a couple of weeks but lately I have simply been using the straight stock stem in the MickeyD's cup with an enlarged hole in the cap. The stealth factor is a bit lower but for my application it is stealthy enough. Also, the plastic straw gets quite hot where it meets the SA (kind of bugged me out - outgassing and all).

What I would really love to see is a "worked" straight stem that has been colored to match a standard drinking straw.

EDIT: I am fully on board with Natural Farmer's initiative to find a more permanent/classy solution than a disposable cup from a company who's food I won't eat! Ideas??

really??? i have been doing it this way since i got my solo and i have never felt the part where the glass and straw meet ever get hot and NEVER seen it off-gas. the only part of the glass that gets that hot is the bowl part

^ I can't say I have seen or even tasted anything foul, but a few times after extended public party sessions it has felt hot enough to give me pause. If we can safely keep it all glass, why not.

Awesome idea about the stem - perhaps a member here knows of someone who would be able to make one. I should imagine someone who makes glass drip tips (for e-cigs) would be able to turn their hand to this pretty easily!?

I love the idea of something a little more sturdy/pretty than a fast food cup too - it just doesn't do the beautiful Solo justice IMO

I agree, some 'throw away' cup covered with advertising is not up to 'Solo standards', but what is the goal here? Aren't we trying to blend in with the large number of innocents wondering around sucking on soft drinks? We're not looking to make a fashion statement here, in fact quite the opposite, we want to blend in with the common man?

To use a macabre analogy, if everyone else in town was dying of TB, coughing and hacking all the time, I'd consider wrapping the Solo in a bloody handkerchief..........

The goal of stealth is not being noticed. Being special is something else.

couldn't have said it better... i use a McDonalds cup cause it's easy to modify to my needs, and easy to replace. Can even be obtained for free if you have a nice face <--- attempt at humor here

I just recently purchased an arizer solo sold to me in new condition however when i received it there was some residue in the heating chamber. It came boxed with some potpourri and the residue stinks of it. I was wondering if this is normal? or weather the seller has given me a customer return.
