Newbie here, had my Solo for about 3 weeks. After about 45 years of smoking joints and bowls, I immediately fell in love with vaping. Smoking is a thing of the past for me. My Solo was one of the dreaded M1C1's, and I had no problem until yesterday, but I think I caused the problem myself.
First off, I bought the Solo from Aroma-Tek for $150, the cheapest one I could find online. So yesterday I started having problems with the unit not heating properly. After a minute or two, all the heating lights went out, the blue idle light was blinking, but the until seemed to continue heating very rapidly and burned the herb to a dark brown very quickly. After no more than 3 minutes of this, it turned itself off. I assumed I got a defective unit. (My wife thinks it was "knock off" because it was so cheap.) I emailed Aroma-Tek, and they responded promptly this morning with an RMA number and the process for returning and possibly exchanging the unit.
However...last night I noticed that the top piece of the unit was not screwed as tightly as it could be. I removed it when I bought a PVHES stem to place the silicone ring and apparently it loosened up a bit over time. Anyway, I tightened the top piece and the unit started working perfectly again. No more problems with the heating unit. I have noticed since that the top piece sometimes loosens as the until heats up and cools down.
I'm not sure if the unit is defective or if tightening the top fixed the problem, but it seems to be working fine now, and I was pleased to find out that Aroma-Tek was very responsive.
Anyway, I just shared this in case anybody else has the same problem that might be solved by just tightening the top piece of the unit.
