here for the chicks
I always assumed it's to keep dirt & dust out. I just took mine off again because it was in the way to much for my likings.

I used the cap to hold in the loose stem just put in on the curve of the stem, kept it from spinning.

I did not receive any caps with my Solo, but I'd imagine they would be very handy in carrying around pre-loaded stems in a (sunglasses or similar) case. Pre-loaded stems would be quite useful.

He means the topcap not caps for the stems. Although you can use mflb battery caps for the stems.

Don't have a 106, have a 105 and just last night noticed the same thing. Stems no longer hold themselves in like before.

After a few charges now I'm estimating my battery life at 1.5 hours at most and the unit is drained dead/in need of charge. On my 4th charge now. I've thought about keeping it on a charge when not in use but EVERY battery I have ever done that with doesn't keep a charge for long. Like my laptop for example. Newer laptop with lithium ion battery, I've kept it on charge when not in use since new and the battery was done for within a year. Talking bout wont keep a charge for 10 minutes now. Same with a few cell phones. My newest cell only sees a charge when it asks for it and that battery will last 4 days without a charge, going on a year now.

There was a guy a hundred pages back that reported headaches. Maybe drawing too hard?? Really with so many people with sinus issues I am surprised more people don't complain of headaches as not all sinuses are equal.

As a side note I had a 3 hr ot pt sinus surgery 6 weeks ago and was hitting the Solo straight in the door as soon as I got home. The secret was to draw slow and not a bit of extra bleeding or hemorrhaging but in terms of potential infections it was probably not a good idea.

Have you tried flushing your sinuses with Neti Pot or Neilmed? Flush sinus with saline and see if that helps.

These newbies will be WTF-they're still fighting the dust cap :D. Maybe 2 Solos will equalize and prevent headaches as such. He ha. coming out of Canada so 4-5 day wait then time to adapt. Got to make some type of docking station to tie it all together without falling over-so much for portable. Who wants to bring the herb?

I noticed that there are 4 wires leading to the crucible: 2 for sensor and 2 for heating. They appear to be thinner than my fingerprint ridges.

When I apply power to the crucible, these wires get very hot. How much of the battery energy is getting wasted as heat into the case? it almost melted the plastic.

^^Oh those are fingers

Welcome I think that insulation right at the end of the visible wires may be breaking down and allowing the wire sheaths to heat and off gas. I would be careful putting it back together maybe so not to degrade the insulation any further. Mine is similar. Wish I had looked inside mine when it was new.

I meant the metal caps that came in the package, only I just realized it's a magnetic grinder. Bonus! I'll admit, I was looking at it in a rush, I had to go to class. About to try it...woo hoo!

Thanks for the welcome . I have no problem with the insulation. My concern is that Arizer appears to have chosen power-wires thinner than appropriate for this application.

If the wires leading to the crucible are too thin, they will be getting hotter than thick wires would. Hot wires means that energy is getting wasted and not getting delivered to the crucible. This means shorter run-time on a particular pair of batteries

... but how much?

Anyone else getting serious headaches?

Do you use your Solo for multiple 12 minute sessions? Does the whole unit heat up and feel warm in your hand? You may be partially melting the plastic plate at the bottom of the bowl assembly (assuming you have one like the two of mine). There is not much room between it and the block that holds the heater/bowl. It gets warm in there. And it is in the air path. It is the next project of mine to replace that piece with something a little more heat resistant. I will try to contact the Arizer folks and find out what that is made of and how much heat it can resist from back to back 12 minute sessions.

I use mine, sometimes for multiple back to back sessions, with no side effects other than those associated getting medicated. My SS one gets more use now that the nasty flux smell and taste is gone.

It's not plastic. It's Mica.

For everyone concerned about the plastic in the Solo. I emailed Arizer about the airpath, and this is what Kevin said.

Hello Damien,

Thank you for your email. Materials used are a mica/ceramic insulating material, mica/glass for housing and contact points, pps with a very high concentration of glass fiber, and the stainless steel heater.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask me.

Best Regards,
Kevin
