I got my short straight stem in the mail from Alice on ebay today, about 8 hours after she shipped a free one along with another order because it was late. From her emails she seems like such a sweetheart, if she's really an old man in his underwear I may slash up. It's good, the stems with the tips that came earlier are nice to vape from but restrict airflow too much to use as an impromptu gong with the D020, but this one is better, though it can take a little rocking. For this reason, and because it's upside down I didn't install a screen. I put a little teflon tape on the bottom end to steady it. The bowl is way bigger than on the stock stems but because it's upside down I see this as a great opportunity to try using it looser... Field testing a machine like this has predictable results, but besides getting bent it made me see a design flaw in my home build stem/gong project so may have saved a lot of time.

Years ago I tried to medicate with joints and low quality weed. Didn't help!
But I do find that vaporizing high quality weed does make me feel better, even with the flu. And that warm Solo is nice on the hands, if you live up north you know what I mean.

Same same here, had a cold all week but I had to work anyway, only got to take 1 day off and now I'm almost over it. Last night I got a good night's sleep which usually means recovery is near. I've been getting coughing fits from vaping with a cold, but from nowhere near as deep as from smoking.

When I have a cold I just lower the temp so I don't cough. I had a couple of colds lately. Normally I don't get sick very often. The vaporizing helped to break up the congestion. I used Permafrost strain which had a frosty cooler feel to the vapor.

Blew my socks off! Only managed to take some sips at temp3, then I took 2 sips at temp4, started coughing and turned it off. "I'm medicated enough" I thought to myself.

Even though many report it to be smaller than suggested, this little thing still managed to surprise me. It's actually better looking than I thought as well.

I'll probably have to postpone the GonG first tries for a couple of days.

Are they good for volume reduction?

I've had great results by using two domed screens. The innermost screen can be a pain to get flat against the glass screen in the stem. I dome my own screens using the glass bead on my SSV pick. By torching the screens before doming them I am able to get a more significant dome shape--this is major with that innermost screen like I mentioned. I also flatten out the outermost screen a tad, after doming it, so that it stays in place once I get it situated in the stem. The resulting trench size is actually only slightly larger than the vapman crucible, so very small. I like to use a fine grind with this setup but it also works well with a coarse/no grind for flavor chasing. I'm also a fan of the perfectly transparent amber reclaim this produces, this picture was taken after I made myself some quite delicious stem hot cocoa.

You can put a fine screen into the base of your stem and it will stop fine ground chunks flowing up.
They sell them separately at most shops/websites that sell the Solo.

Or alternatively coarse grin your herbs so it's not so fine.

Hi there, I chop my buds up pretty well but I rarely find any coming through, every once in a while a tiny bit might make it through but not enough that I have ever considered buying a screen for it. But I do find bits of left overs in the oven when I separate the glass stem away.

I did end up buying a 5 pack of 'o rings' to help keep the glass stems flush in the oven though. I had found a few times using the solo whilst lying in bed the glass stem came up (and out) when tilted the wrong way which wasnt cool when it was so hot at the end. The o rings work well to keep the stems in nicely though.

You can also buy cheap domed screens from this guy on Ebay. Many people in this thread have done so and been pleased with his results. I know I have been. Regardless, screens are nearly a necessity with the Solo. You can get by without them, but it's a more pleasant experience with them.

I've never really had any trouble with leftover bits in the oven though. Maybe try tamping your load very slightly after packing it, but before putting the stem in the oven? Not enough to reduce airflow, but enough to keep it sticking in the stem. Also, make sure you load/unload the stem with your Solo ¡UPSIDE DOWN!

Try just shredding your nugs with some Tweezers, particularly if you have copious amounts of Trichomes, The Flavor will be more robust, and I have been getting better results versus grinding, plus you can always finger grind once the chunks are roasted.

As long as you remember to draw the drapes before you break it out, that shouldn't be a problem. Unless it's really cold, of course. Makes using it riding up the ski lift kinda conspicuous I guess. Probably limits the party possibilities? But hey, who am I to be judgmental?

You know, there are a couple beaches just South of San Francisco where they might not notice....... And it seems like it might have 'how to carry stash with you' issues? Some details I'm happy not knowing......
