You are suppose to be able to charge and use the Solo 2 at the same time. @OF will tell you it's hard on the battery life as a whole. That's the way it was with the original Solo that was revised in 2014. The early Solo didn't have pass through vaporizing.

Just a minor math error but still a good discount (249-40 = $209)

Bless ya yea its hard on the Mighty too though but it only does 210c versus 220c here so if the quality is about the same i want higher temps for sedative effects. I will have to dig a bit more and see as pass through is an absolute requirement alongside getting the battery changed. In 2017 i would not spend money otherwise when you could get a torch vape and sit it out.

Don't really want to get into the Mighty/solo thing but to me it seems crazy talk that some users think Mighty has less dense vapor. To me seems at least twice as densely solo. Solo takes twice as long too extract everything. Those first couple hits off the solo2 are some of my all time favorites tho for taste.
When I tried the Mighty after using solos and a Air for DD it blew me away. I felt the $500 CAD I spent was completely justified. It can choke m out way faster than a big SoloII rip.
But for taste, ease of use/cleaning, and reliability, the SoloII IS amazing.

If thy could combine the S&B vape signature into the SoloII with a removable cooling condenser or something like that it would be my ultimate portable!!!

ANYWAYS
Got a bent Stem last night. Had to pay an extra few bucks since it was a head shop but oh wells.

Stem fits a bit tighter than the soloII stock ones.

Hitting it hamster style last night. Real real nice. Still working on my own technique might call it "Salamander style" - it's when you crawl out of bed half asleep and you have an already loaded up solo ready to go on th bedside table ( something like that just made that up right now haha)

Nice not having to charge her up every day like most portables if you are a heavy user like myself.

What are people's favorite SCREENS??
I got some predomed ones off eBay way way back for solo1 but now that same listing does not ship to Canada.

How are the PIU ones? Easy to dome/basket yourself??

Not a fan of the stock screens they include.

Had some I think from sticky brick but they end of being too soft and don't keep shape well after doming.

Maybe I should take a stroll through the OG Solo thread haha

The early Solo didn't have pass through vaporizing.

This is misinformation, when in fact the complete opposite is true. Prior to the change of being able to use and charge on the fly, the old generation of Solo's did in fact have pass-through ability with the optional power adapter accessory. After the change, bye bye pass through usage.

The Solo is primarily conduction, the Mighty is primarily convection. The Mighty may have more vapour output, but doesn't have the thick density of the Solo IMO. Gram for gram, i've illustrated this in videos in both respective threads. With the Solo II increased bandwidth, this will even be more evident. I could never, ever get that thick opaque white density in a water tool with the Mighty no matter what I did, including bypassing the CU with a muzzmod. With a proper preheat in the Solo, it was smoke-like.

Actually neither really has pass through in the strict sense. PT can only happen when the source ('charger' in our case) can/does supply 100% (or more) of the power needed at all times. Clearly the current Solo (pun intended...) fails by that definition. The wall wort can only supply about half the power needed.

The old Solo could run 'true PA', that is there was a Power Adapter designed in that does have the capacity to do all the work. By definition this is pass through. Most owners don't recognize as such, of course, but IMO the PA and old Solo is close enough to pass through I think I could win that debate. No way could I support the idea that the opposite was true (that the modern Solo or Air are true pass through). It's possible on the old style substituting a different power supply, but impossible on the current design ('use while charging') no matter what supply you use since the charge circuit will limit the possible power to much less than is needed in real time.

Or so I understand such things.

Yep, you nailed it. For all intents and purposes, the older model had pass-through. 99.9% anyway, because even with that old school power adapter, it did very minutely use a teeny tiny fractional amount of battery juice! Thanks for elaborating it so succinctly! Shame the current gen of Solo II wasn't like the "good 'ol days"! Good times indeed.

Mighty destroys OG Solo everyday of the week. Looking forward to trying Solo II to compare.

The original Solo didn't come with a plug in that could be used for pass through vaporizing, then you could purchase the PA by itself. You couldn't charge the unit. It only allowed you to use the Solo. Then around 2014 the Solo was upgraded whereas you could use the plugin that came in the pkg and vaporize and charge at the same time. It does take away some of the power. I don't usually use the Solo plugged in because I don't want to lower my battery potency, I just use it to charge the battery.

I still have my preupgraded Solo from 2012. Its still working! I did buy the PA to use with the unit. I guess I was misunderstood and didn't explain well @OF to the rescue.

This isn't the gotcha thread.

Plug and use at the same time is pass through vaporizing isn't it?
I don't know anything about the Mighty.
Start a Solo 2 Mighty comparison thread. That's where it needs to go. In the "ask FC " section.:)

Who needs pass through when you have 20 seshes a battery ...

If by 'pass through' you mean 'use while charging' I agree. There is no need for that and advantage (in terms of battery life) to not doing so I guess? Sessions per charge shouldn't change that idea, though, just 'plan ahead'.

If, OTOH, you can have 'true PA' like we used to you can enjoy session after session after session guilt free (trivial wear and tear on the battery) and go a long time between charges. IIRC I got well over 50 in a row in one test. Those Solos, on a PA, are basically immortal WRT battery lifespan.

Plug and use at the same time is pass through vaporizing isn't it?

I don't think so, but I'm quite confident that's a minority view. Most, I think, see 'use while charging' as pass through but frankly I don't think they really understand either very well? When you get your car fixed the mechanic 'passes through' the cost of parts, if he adds profit for himself (charging you more than he paid), I don't consider that passing through costs, it's selling you stuff and perhaps deceptively?

Same here, basically? It can really only be considered 'passing through' the power when it sends out the same number of Watts (to the heater) as it takes in (from the power lines). Storing power (charging the battery) for use later is something different. So, while it uses a very small amount of power to control things, I think it's safe to say the old version using it's dedicated PA is a Solo running in pass through, or at least as close as any ever will be. Well, come to think of it, that Solo with a dead battery could be even closer????

There are true pass through vape pens, I've got one here somewhere. It takes in five Watts from the USB jack and delivers almost all of it to the cartridge heater (it takes a tiny bit to light the LED.....), there's no battery involved. That won't work for Solo of course, it needs over 20 Watts and it's only taking in about ten (all it's allowed through the charge channel, basically).

In a way, it' a bit like the conduction/convection thing. Just names, understanding what's going on is far more important? Although this can be fun, and perhaps educational. No, make that 'hopefully educational'? I sure learn some cool stuff........

@biohacker the insinuations in this post are rather offensive and not acceptable here on FC. If we want to have a civilized discussion about vaporizers then we should avoid making these types of inferences. Please don't comment on other members' motives or posting styles and keep the discussion about the Solo II without the side commentary.

Thank you.

:peace:

Yeah, and i'm the asshole, just by helping all of us by politely correcting your incorrect statement. Nice comment.

We've asked you (both through PMs and as above, publicly) to please restrain your posts, but you've ignored the moderators once too often. Please take this time-out to reconsider your attitude to other members and FC in general.

This is exactly what i want to be clear! I am not sure what happens with a Mighty but if the Solo II does not have this then i could not see me buying one because as someone said "immortal" is the word i want to use. There is no point to me in future not being able to get a battery because in many years these should still work no?

I mean a lot of people cuss portables about thickness etc using flowers when really a portable only extracts THC feed your portable oil/kief mixes and keep the flowers for at home and you should be gold for a long time no? This is what i think anyways i dont understand even why pass through like this is not a standard. It is really confusing though on the yes/no i still dont even know about the Mighty and it has been said a few times but people argue about it and it never becomes clear.

Maybe i should of taken Carols advice and asked FC on this matter i dont want to clutter though.

Not to worry, there's no obligation for you to clutter here........LOTS of other guys have taken care of that already? Some with no apparent motive past making trouble even.

By all means ask away, such decisions should be informed ones. As informed as possible? No need for you to make all the same mistakes we've already taken care of.......
