Arizer Solo II

Just 1 my friend.

Makes perfect sense to me. Quite logical in fact? If I could hazard a guess, if it was taking you two .05 gram loads to do the full job, you'd quickly evolve to loading .1 at a time?

One of Solo's key 'strong points' I think. Owners can optimize their load size to match their session needs? Many of us 'put up with' two sessions per load (some claimed even more) until domed screens finally 'came of age' so smaller loads were easier to do routinely. The problem was, of course, heat flow (isn't it always?), being conduction Solo/Air needs effective physical contact to do the good work. Domed screens do a great job by holding a large percentage of the load against the heated glass so vapor volume doesn't suffer (as much).

Solo/Air does this (with the domed screens), a clear advantage over otherwise fine vapes it competes with for our dollars.

Regards to all.

Noob here in need of a little advice.

My use is usually medicinal: a tiny bit before bed each night to get myself to sleep. I was close to taking the plunge and ordering a Solo II, but looking at some videos, it seems like it might not be great for the tiny amounts I normally use -- but I'm not sure.

Does anyone have any insights as to how well this works when you're not remotely packing the glass to capacity? Perhaps even just a few crumbs at a time? Does that work at all? Maybe with some sort of screen contraption?

(I saw the Magic Flight Launch Box recommended for small amounts, but I just can't bring myself to spend $120 on what appears to be $5 worth of wood and copper in a DIY project -- no matter how much people seem to like it).

Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've found micro-dosing is easily achievable with the Solo II via a few different techniques that have worked fine for me without screens, etc.

* Filling the stem bowl about half way, sometimes just a bit less. I get plenty of vapor/effects this way, nice vapor production, and the material stays packed fine....and you don't need to pack it too tight either.....just enough so gravity/the slight jolt that happens when the stem is inserted in the solo II body doesn't make the material pop out onto the heating surface. You'll get the feel of it. This technique applies to any amount that is placed into the stem bowl I would say but I would say the lowest I fill it is about in the 40-50% range.

* Fill up the stem bowl half way, 3/4, or full, etc....use what you want and just leave the material in the bowl until you need it again. Take your 1 or 2 pulls, pull the stem out when you're done(figured it will prevent from "cooking" the material from the heated chamber), and put the stem back in the next day/a few days when you need to take a pull or 2 again. If you decide you want to keep the unused portion that was used in the stem bowl in a sealed container, you can also empty it from the stem after the material/stem cools and just reload it when you need it again.

In any case, given I must have lots of cannabinoid receptors in my body and a long draw or 2 gives me ample effects, I've been using the above techniques with great success/ample vapor pulls with the Solo II with half filled/sometimes a bit less fills without screens or any other fillers in the bowl. Keeping it simple with the least amount of parts to accomplish the task is what I was looking to achieve.

@DocH Thanks for the tips. I've filled the stem (with flat screen) anywhere from 20% to 80% but always finished in one session from 15-35 minutes. The Solo 2 came with two sleeves and two sets of rubber plugs. I can just wait for it to cool and seal the whole stem. You have just expanded my vaporizing options.

Edit: I might as well try it now. I filled the bowl 2/3 full (maybe .1 gram) and vaped at two lower temp stages. Will store stem and finish later at highest temp.

@Little Bill glad you found the technique worth a try. Yes, good idea on just letting it cool and putting the stem in the sleeves with the plugs to seal it....I've done the same also. And given the solo II comes with a few stems/we can have unlimited stems of course by buying more, I've had several different strains ready to go in several different stems from unfinished small session(s).

You can use cotton as a "spacer" filler also. Then after all the resin is leftover on the cotton you can vape that. Just another option. Some folks don't like using cotton. I've used cotton at one time or another with some of my vaporizers.

I don't use a domed screen or a spacer with my bud in my Solo 2. When I'm done I take the stem out and save for later. I have the caps that fit over the top of the stems. Usually I just lay the stem on the table for use later. I can get 2 - 15 min sessions from one stem full. The second time around I may even mix a tiny bit of fresh bud with the light ABV because it shrinks down from moisture loss - it gives the load a fresher taste. Generally I turn my heat up towards the end of the session to vaporize all the special goodies at the end of the ABV.

I save the ABV for later use to use in making oil or butter. You can put ABV in a smoothie or milkshake as well.

@CarolKing yes I also save my ABV for smoothies too. What temperatures would you use to vape the Cotton/resin?

My Solo 2 really gave me an attitude adjustment this afternoon. I had new meds that needed some urgent QC testing before hopping the train home. I roughly tore up a nuglet and packed that stem; it had been too long without a proper prescription for me to be responsible and conservative. Fuck combustion AND austerity! So today's weather was amazing and London always gives me that rush like NYC does or really any major city the world over. When it's sunny and warm the people of London make the most of it!

I just wandered the residentials off the high street taking dog-legs, sipping this incredibly tasty (and whoa - potent!) herb, keeping a fairly large personal bubble and just holding it in and looking at the temp screen when passing folks. I just have a device in my face, pressing buttons like most everyone does these days. Thought about doing the cup thing but turned out the Solo 2 "in plain sight" was plenty stealthy. Maintaining situational awareness and good opsec as standard always! :o
YMMV of course, do what you will. You crazy Solo 2 lovin' kids!

I like to have a coarse grind with my Solo 2 because I'm not using a screen. I don't have a coarse grinder so I use my SLX grinder and just twist a couple times. Then open the area where the teeth are and use the cannabis that hasn't gotten completely ground up to a med grind. It's like using a two piece grinder. The SLX grinder that I have has the three pieces. I love it because it doesn't stick. I can turn it with ease.:2c:

Through a bunch of high end and low end grinders I settled on the Interplanetary Development super weapon 2. It nails a medium coarse grind perfectly - which is ideal for a screen free Solo II stem.

To reduce the initial torque of a full bud, just break it up a bit. I know the selling feature on the SWII is you can put a full bud where the teeth are missing and achieve an excellent grind, but it's even easier if you put a couple respectable sized chunks in the same spot without the torque (it's not much, but everyone is different).

As a bonus, both the SWII and the Solo II are the second of their kind.

I average 1-2 grams per day, straight vapor -- no water.

I also average 2 grams per day (and another 1g of shatter each week) and really enjoy the variety a water pipe can bring to my sessions.

I in fact have several different water pipes and the experience is unique to each one.

It's not that straight vaping is boring but variety makes things interesting and provides a bit of ritual to my sessions - which vape to use, inside or outside, which flower, water or not.

Give water a try if you haven't.

I will be posting a 500+ session review in the next day or two. After this many sessions hopefully I have something new to add to the discussion.

^^^ this. I did this all last week with one green bud and many grams of light abv out of necessity. And I survived. @CarolKing - I think I read something you wrote years ago here with something like this tip. I doubt I would have come up with it on my own!
Just another reason you are one of my FC heroes... So glad you're always around passing on knowledge in such a positive way. Wouldn't be the same here without you. Truly

EDIT: Took too long to gather my thoughts:myday: I was seconding @AJS. And @JCharles is way cool. I love everyone tonight...:smug:

EDIT#2: vvv @OF dear sir, you are another of said heroes. You are a gentleman and a scholar. You too tirelessly and patiently help people understand the science behind your answers. For years!

Maybe a crazy holiday deal you can't refuse?
You need a vote set up in Ask FC. For hard data.

I actually plugged in my EVO, after many years of vaping dry, and returned to water sessions recently. I used to be a "water tool snob" and pulled a "dimetric opposite". My old water tool-vape videos are famous on youTube! https://www.youtube.com/user/ClubMJW/videos

Sacrifice your relationship with your wallet and your wife and buy yourself a Solo 2 and don't look back. Good luck, friend.
My wife is FIRING HOT!
You shouldn't throw away thing's that make you feel good.

If a SOLO 2 is nearly as good as my SOLO 1?

I'll get one.

Hey @OF is it worth getting the SOLO 2?

Only if you say!

DUTCH TREAT @CarolKing try it and see if it's any good?

Hey @OF is it worth getting the SOLO 2?

Aside from the obvious error in judgement marrying you, I side with the wife. At least mostly.

Solo II is nice, the 50% increase in battery life is welcome as is the somewhat smaller shape. I think the original steps were fine for what they did, I tend to leave mine set at 390F. And the oven is more to my liking than Air in that stem tipping is practical. Clear advantages over the original, but enough to merit replacement? Your call there. I have a couple of Solo Is (old 'true PA' versions) that still get used.

Even if you shift back to drinking and hanging around bars and all, your current Solo is a loyal friend, trust the wife........
