Arizer Solo II

I've been enjoying my Solo II for a couple weeks now. It's been working flawlessly, but I ordered another for my daughter and her husband and it was DOA. Display lights up, but battery won't take a charge and had no charge when we got it. Hoping for better luck on the next one.

I guess my question about the stem not fitting into the Air got moved?
It's in the Air thread now.

Yup, it and my reply to you were moved there (where it belonged to start with?)

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-arizer-air.16415/page-401#post-1132266

Interesting that I wasn't led to that thread when I entered "Arizer Air" in the search box... Thanks, Rude Boy. You aren't so rude after all...

Find my post and read it, I tried to explain this there IIRC. You should have searched 'stem' or 'stem fit' on that Forum. The search function is a bit primitive but it does work if you do it it's way.

Organization at FC is a bit different than most. Vapes are divided into corded and cordless (portables) then by model. Within that model Forum it's basically a stream of consciousness rule......an ongoing discussion if you will. About everything Air without further breakdown. 'Cross posting' is dangerous because of this.

Welcome to the fun, I hope you get your fit concerns sorted out quickly and can get to enjoying your vape.

Bummer for sure. Any idea what "Error Code 7" means? It's a code.....one would hope a clue to someone with a secret decoder ring.....

Please keep us posted, as I'm sure this is something we'd all like to avoid?

TIA

Well, I haven't heard from Arizer yet about my issue but maybe they close for the weekend. I won't be able to ship it back until Monday anyhow.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Solo II without any problems. I'm a bit bummed that mine is out of commission but will remain optimistic that Arizer will make things right.

I agree with JCharles, stock stems are good. I bought the OG Solo stems which have slightly bigger holes which creates the perfect air resistance for me.

Agreed. FWIW I think many of the nay sayers fall into one of two categories those who haven't really tried all the options and those who see themselves as exceptional users with more sophisticated tastes/needs. The first are guessing or at best repeating questionable opinions from the web as facts. The second, by definition, is not the normal user? New guys should perhaps avoid this advice for that reason?

Against this is the oft ignored idea that Arizer might actually have developed/tested the stems for best results by most owners? They're not stupid, they do listen and they have SOME CONSIDERABLE EXPERIENCE in the area?

My advice for new guys is to ignore all the free 'better stem' advice you get from guys using fake names. Including mine? TRY THE FACTORY STEMS before you assume they are inferior and Jones for 'something better'. At the very least it's a good reference and it is available at no extra cost.

Consider the number of us that have paid for and tried 'better' stems (some a bit pricey) only to come back to using the factory stems most of the time?

This is a subjective/personal thing. Best is to see for yourself? You're not only the best judge here, but IMO have (or will have) the only opinion that really counts for you.

Regards and best weekend wishes to all. Looks to be great here.......

I will have to say so far my favorite stem is the long stem with the four holes in the bottom that come stock with the Solo 2. I haven't tried a large number of my stems for the Solo OG because I'm really satisfied with the stock stem. I did try a couple others and my Ed's wooden stem doesn't fit. I keep going back to the stock stem. Been trying to use a more coarse grind so I don't get little bits in the stem.

I let my brother borrow my Solo 2 because I wanted to get the battery down below half before I put it on the charge for the first time. When I got it back it was down to 1/4. I put it on the charge for the first time. I'm not sure how many 10 min sessions we both had? This battery just keeps going. I bet it was close to 20 ten min. sessions.

I'm still on my honeymoon with this vaporizer. Arizer was listening to the masses and made a Solo to fit the needs of the vaporizer enthusiast. This has been my favorite vaporizer since I got it.

Hey all, just wanted to hop back into this thread to ask where all the complaints are coming from that the airpath isn't safe on the Solo 2? Just did some digging and someone on Reddit took apart an original 2014 Solo and showed that the airpath, which is near the bowl, is completely blocked off from the electronics. I don't see any reason Arizer would go backwards on airpath safety. Anything I'm missing? Here's the thread:

I really can't comment on what passes for useful information on lesser forums like the one you cite, but that's just not so:
Gk2DqCK.jpg

Notice those same four wires (Heater and sensor, you can see 2 well, the other two are coming up from the bottom) extend down and and attach to the PCB? Air can (and does to some minor extent) leaks past. Sealing the wires won't fix it, since the chassis not a 'gas tight' fit to the tube, air simply leaks around it and into the oven anyway.

IIRC we identified four separate possible leak paths in Solo 2 that would allow evil electronic fumes to sneak by. Including down past the push buttons. Arizer is just not 'on board' with this issue?

Some guys just like to harp on this idea as a fault I guess? Their campaign, to explain to us how dangerous this is. They warn us about fumes from the lead in the solder in the PCBs (as if lead evaporates at room temperature, or there's even any lead in the leadfree solder used.......).

IMO if there was a legitimate health risk here Capitalism would fix it in the traditional manner.......their competitors would publish proof of the risk and take all the customers and make all the money. But since it's not real, they don't? They know that Arizer has lawyers too and what happens to guys who make statements they can't back up in that venue.

Ironically, those very same folks are often OK with holding their cell phones up to their faces hours a day breathing in the toxic fumes and all from those electronics. Or they don't worry about it when they use their computers, or watch TV? Same components, same materials, but why is it toxic in a vape but not a cell phone? I sure don't know.

And while we're on the idea of cell phones, how smart is it really to hold a (low power) microwave transmitter up to your head? We can measure and document the risks there, and have. And they wish to lecture me on avoiding risks?

I say enjoy your Solo, it's a solid, well built, trouble free tool for making vapor. Lots and lots of vapor. All you can want/afford.

Edit: I just realized you may have missed the same basic photo of Solo II:
toJOaHI.jpg

As you can see, the leads still go from PCB to the oven with a wide clearance gap. Even if air didn't leak around the chassis (which it does) it's going to find an easy path along those wires. Click on the photo, blow it up, and check out the notch for the wires, it's about 1/8 inch deep IIRC.

The lesser Forum 'expert' simply got it wrong?

There's been some bashing by one particular member now he's moved over to Reddit to keep his rant going. Also bad mouthing FC in the process. Some folks won't quit.

Yeah Carolking, I seen that on Reddit. Supposedly Fuckcombustion is the worst circle jerk forum out there?? WTF??.

Anyway...I love Fuckcombustion, my Solo 2 and all Arizer products

I believe we're talking about the same fellow all right. He alone has discovered how bad we really all are.......

And I don't even have to peek to be so sure of the subject.

Let us hope he now finds himself among kindred spirits who truly value his wisdom and productive contributions, that he'll be so happy he stays there and leaves us to muddle along in our collective ignorance? Serve us right, wouldn't it? Why would he want to come back to this pit of low life folks?

That could well be the 'win-win' solution to the friction problem? Until then I suggest we continue to ask honest questions, seek/give first hand advice and 'back up' our opinions/claims as best we can. And respecting each other ('be nice') should be included without mention, of course. As is normal at FC.

The goal, as ever, should be informed choices in the market. And 'informed' means access to reliable information.

While I was at the grocery store I was going to look for the extended Q-tips. I couldn't find any. Maybe I need to go to the drugstore? Its quite the honey collector isn't it.
@JCharles mine looks like yours.
I picked up some Blackberry Kush and it tastes great in the Solo2. My brother is helping me to break the Solo in.:D

You need to know the secret code words, "long cotton swabs". They run a few cents to a penny each, depending:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=long+cotton+swabs

There's another alternative, make them up as you need them. As a lad in various (Biological) Labs I was taught to be a frugal employee (restricted budget you know, no money for extras.....). We took a long (usually Bamboo) stick and twisted a tuft of cotton on the end by rolling the stick in the fingertips of the other hand. You quickly learn how much cotton it takes, the 'trick' is to tease the tuft out to be about as wide as you want the head (say half an inch) and an inch or so long so it wraps many times around and stays put. You slip the end off when done and reuse the stick. I used the same Bamboo chop stick (who says it has to be real skinny) with a more or less pointed end. Some used sticks pulled from the trash in other labs (wooden), some BBQ skewers. One 'old hand' used the same piece of Copper wire he'd used for years. It was cool since you could bend it, just the ticket for washing glassware with stuck stuff.

I still do this, on the desk I've got what's left of the cotton from a vitamin bottle and a BBQ skewer in the pencil holder.

@JCharles mine looks like yours.

Come on, Lady, this is not that kinda forum!

Take it to PM........

So Father's Day starts here in an hour, excuse me I've got plans to make?

Edit: It occurred to me that folks are making youtube videos about most everything these days, maybe...... So you can watch it happen. She 'folds' the end over to make a compact tip, I was taught to 'wrap it down the shaft' as it's wound. An easy skill and one that can come in handy:

I use my Solo 2 almost exclusively as a microdoser with a pretty high dome screen, cutting the bowl in half or less. I pack about a .05-.07. I use it on the go with the bent stem or at home in the bubbler for a quick 2 fat high temp rips to kill a bowl between my video games. Works perfectly for "bong snaps" as people call them.

Also here's my goo

Never noticed that lil silicone plug said "open" on it until this photo. Kinda weird, if I think about it too hard. Like, who needed extra help figuring out that the plug opens? And once it's open, does it not close? Single use? Without the word "close" imprinted on it, I am helpless and scared and lost.

Hey guys! I wrote Arizer about the airpath concern and got a great response back:

"Hello ManFlies352,

Thank you for your email.

The airpath is at the top of the unit, directly beside the heating element. It is true that the circuitry is not completely sealed off from the airpath, but this does not pose any risk to your health or safety.

We have carefully sourced our parts from all over the world and have gone to great lengths to source and use only safe quality parts, from glass to silica free ceramics, there are no glues, pcb's are lead free, no components contain mercury, all accessories are medical/food grade and temperature rated. All structure materials used inside are of safe non-toxic materials and are heat rated to temperatures much higher then the maximum operating temperature.

We perform comprehensive testing on all of our products and components to ensure they are completely safe for use by us, our friends, family, and consumers alike, and there is no off-gassing, fumes, or anything harmful being emitted from any of the Solo II components.

I hope this helps. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask!"

I feel much better now! :)
